Fanfic Truth or CHALLENGE!

Tiana Calthye

Recommended Posts

This is a game, similar to truth or dare.

In this game, you have two options. One is truth, and one is challenge.

Here is a stimulation:

I will post and indicate whether I want a truth or a challenge. I say TRUTH. Let's say Ben posts after me. Ben must now ask me a question, as well as state whether he wants a truth or a challenge. Ben picks challenge and asks me whether I have ever read pornographic Star Wars fanfiction, which I must answer. Someone else, or myself, can then step in and give Ben a writing challenge as well as stating truth or challenge.

Let's say Delta comes in and challenges Ben to write a poem.

Now it's up to Ben to write a poem.

Challenges must be within the rating of the site and the rules of fanfic and not unreasonable challenges, so for the time I will request that challenges be limited to chapters, short stories, flash fiction, and poems. No "write a novel", no "finish a fanfiction"... but "write the first chapter of a novel" would be okay, although uncreative.

Challenges should be presented in the form of writing and reading challenges, such as are found in the sticked challenge thread. Feel free to browse this thread for ideas. This is not TBAG. Challenges should not be things like "post only in haiku for a day" but instead, writing challenges (or even "read stories" challenges). Challenges should be conductive to creativity and good writing, though there is definitely nothing wrong with 'silly' and 'parody' types of writing challenges... I'm just more indicating that challenges should bring about additions to fanfic and the library as well as let us have fun as writers, and not be the sort of strange site-trolling dares of TBAG's truth or dare game.

Truths should be related only to writing and reading. This is not TBAG. No questions about sexual exploitations, etc... keep it to questions about wordcrafting. When replying to a truth, if you don't want a subsequent question or dare, just indicate that you are replying and don't put a truth or a challenge underneath your post.

Questions may be asked if you're uncertain about the game, just don't indicate truth or challenge underneath your post.

LAP, write a story with a romantic pairing of canon characters that isn't canon (i.e. Obi-Wan and Shmi).

I will take a TRUTH at the moment--no free time to write anything at all, much less work on the pile of homework I have.

This is a great thread. It needs more activity!

I will take a TRUTH at the moment--no free time to write anything at all, much less work on the pile of homework I have.

What is one book you most wish you had written?

I'm in a similar situation re: work, but nevertheless, against perhaps my better judgment, I'll choose CHALLENGE.

Hmm...this is a really tough one! I guess I'd say Harry Potter. Rowling hit the jackpot and is the richest woman in Britain now. Not only that, but I love those books. They are brilliantly written, and I believe she deserves her fame. If I had written them, I would not only have the millions of dollars, but the satisfaction of having written very good books.

Challenge for COEM: Write a fanfiction. It can be of whatever fandom you wish. The only other stipulations are: first person narration, and you have to include the words "veridium", "haste", and "basket".

I will take another TRUTH.

Ami: What is your favorite fiction genre OR series (making it a little easier) to read, and why?

Gonna play it safe and go for a truth.[/b]

GIMPY!!! *cheers*

Alright, let's see what my answer is...I think my favorite genre to read is Star Wars, honestly, or other sci-fi that is similiar. I love Star Wars...it's good, clean, interesting, and generally very well written. Timothy Zahn is one of my favorite authors--not only for his Star Wars stuff, but also for his other non-SW sci-fi stuff, which is all absolutely brilliant.

I don't know if I could pick a favorite series, so I'll stick with that.

Truth for Gimpy:

If you had to write historical fiction, what time period would you write?

I will take another truth.

Ack, I can't believe I'm doing this, I never come here anymore. ^^; Ah well, I shall indeed try my hand at it.

Truth for AS: Would you ever write to get published, especially in (but not limited to) the Star Wars Genera?

And as much as I might regret this, I think I'll take a challenge.

You know the closer you get to something

The tougher it is to see it,

And I'll Never take it for granted,

Let's go!

I would love to write real SW fiction!! That was my dream for a looong time, and even right now, if GL or whoever approached me and asked me to do it, I would say yes in a heartbeat! As it is, I am writing an original fiction novel, and the goal was originally to try to get it published, but I'm not sure I'm going to go that way any more. I don't know. But I'd like to.

CHALLENGE FOR OBI-QUIET:

Write a short story/fic about a young Palpatine.

Young Palpatine, eh? Hmm...give me a little while to think about how to approach that one, and it shall be done.

You didn't post whether you wanted a Truth or a Challenge.

The tougher it is to see it,

And I'll Never take it for granted,

Let's go!

Answering an old truth from Ami, cuz I'm way behind... :

I think I would write in the Renaissance era, maybe in Italy? It could be from watching my husband play Assassin's Creed so much lately, but I feel like you can mix cool advances in science or religion a la Galileo but still have lords, ladies, etc a la fairy tale. Either that or Victorian steampunk would be fun. You've got a cool mix of possibilities available.

A TRUTH for Raynuk:

What is your most productive environment for writing?

And...I'm probably gonna regret it, but....CHALLENGE me!

A TRUTH for Raynuk:

What is your most productive environment for writing?

My most productive environment for writing... Well, I guess it depends on what im writing. If its poetry I like to be outside and have a good view, ans my FanFic I write here on my computer in a word document. But the ONE cosistant thing, is I always have to have music. Music music music. I seem to do 100x better, write faster, be clear in my motives when I have music playing. It is probably a side effect from college when I would be cramming to write a paper the night before it was due, and I would just turn on my music and pump the paper out.

TJM: What has been your favorite FanFic in terms of the author tackling a particularly memorable topic/character?

In all honesty, I can't remember the last time I read a fanfic. However, I did keep up with Nat's poems when she was posting them, and I thoroughly enjoyed them. There was one about white gum trees that I thought was particularly good. All of the poetry of hers that I remember has to do with the land, and all used very intense, if brief, images. So I suppose her nature-themed poetry is my favorite work here, despite not being a "fanfic."

And...I'm probably gonna regret it, but....CHALLENGE me!

Write a short Star Wars fanfic... set in Renaissance Italy.

I know I haven't finished my last challenge yet (though I posted the start for it!) but I would NEVER wuss out and take a Truth: hit me with another challenge.

Okay, then T, here's your challenge: Write a short story that contains the line "But this is an emergency!" either at the beginning or end of the story, and also contains a Hutt character.

I'll take another CHALLENGE!

Ami: Write a poem about how a ghost fell in love with a goblin.

I'll take a challenge.

Write a short story about the END of the Star Wars Universe; aka "How will the Star Wars universe end? Will it be a giant catastrophy such as a sun exploding and causing a chain reaction? Or will it be another uber-alien invasion from parts unknown?!"

Troof for me please.

TRUTH: Do you appreciate situations in a story when it becomes so dark it is almost uncomfortable to read? (ie. if someone had written the intro to Law Abiding Citizen in a book, where a father gets beat and sees his wife get raped and killed and same to his little girl before being knocked out and left alive).

I'll take another Challenge.

You guys hate me, making me write all this star wars stuff. I think I might one up it though and just take a shakespeare story and make it SW. lol (short one obviously, or a very abridged one like Othello or something).

Truth: What's your favorite non-canon pairing?

Challenge: Write about it.

I'm still working on mine. It's short, but I've not even had time to sit at the computer these days. So give me a truth to keep things rolling and I'll take a new challenge once I've posted the response to Ami's challenge.

Sasori: You can always request NSW, just as someone could request Star Wars themed challenges too, if there are preferences. I'm sure that won't be a problem.

Oh man, I just remembered that I never answered this:

TRUTH: Do you appreciate situations in a story when it becomes so dark it is almost uncomfortable to read? (ie. if someone had written the intro to Law Abiding Citizen in a book, where a father gets beat and sees his wife get raped and killed and same to his little girl before being knocked out and left alive).

That's a good question. I would say it depends on the context. I haven't seen Law Abiding Citizen but that situation sounds pretty brutal. It matters greatly what the intent of the explicit darkness is, I think. Sometimes a raw description has a powerful impact and the effed up stuff is there to prove an important point, as tough as it may be to read. But there are other books where that kind of thing is handled artlessly and it becomes gratuitous or just for cheap shock. The above scenario would be hard for me to read depending on how it was written, but I could appreciate it on an aesthetic/emotional/thematic level if the brutality serves a valuable purpose.

Tiana: What is one book or collection of books which, had you the power to reverse time, you would make so that it had never been written?

I'll take another truth.
