Final thoughts... (complete)

He looked around. He had preformed his recent task of carrying one of them around. Now it was time for them to feed him, so he could go rest up and go to sleep. Ferrying these creatures around was a trying task after all. Especially when one was busy thinking about the lichen that he would be able to eat later that day.

That was all he was in for anyway, the general shelter that the creatures provided as well as the lichen. On occasion they let him have a mushroom or two. Those were rare however.

He huffed, as the general busy of this cave began to get to him. When would he get this stuff off? He was tired of trudging around left and right, under commands. He wanted food, and he wanted to sleep.

For some reason, a pair of the creatures was getting abnormally loud next to him. Naturally, he found that irritating, since he was tired after all.

Echo Base Officer: You'll freeze to death before you reach the first marker!

Han Solo: Then I'll see you in Hell!

With a suddenness that surprised him, he found himself with yet another creature to ferry around. With out a brief yelp of surprise, he started forward, as he had been taught to and emerged into the dropping temperatures.

He wasn't sure what was going on, but it seemed, they needed him one last time. It sure felt great to be needed, even though he was both hungry and tired.

Glancing around left and right, he began to get a bit worried. If the creature didn't hurry up and get back to the shelter they would freeze and die out here. To make matters worse, there were those dastardly evil monsters that attacked his kind every now and then.

Just because he had horns, didn't mean he was suited for fighting those ice monsters. Driving the thought from his mind, he was tempted to buck his passenger off and simply find a place to spend the night on his own.

If he did that though, he would have to find a new pack to hang with, and he doubted he would get fed as regularly as these creatures had been giving him.

He huffed, it was no matter, he was strong and tough, he could, no would handle it. He would take this creature where it wanted to go, then the creature would be forced to feed him extra.

Looking upward, he noticed that time seemed to be escaping, which meant it was only going to get colder. If only the creature didn't seem to be following such an erratic pattern. This wasn't like most other times, where he just walked around an area and came back. No this was... different.

Huffing again, he shivered from the cold; coming up over a hill he continued to follow the commands.

After a rather large amount of time, he felt himself shivering all over, yet for some reason the creature still didn't want to stop and take shelter. This was getting to be ridiculous. If the creature didn't shape up soon, he would end up being the death of both of them.

Suddenly being yanked he was jarred from his thoughts, and forced even deeper into the icy drifts that continued to blow across the landscape.

Shivering violently, he wondered if the creature riding him, even had a clue to how cold it was getting. He huffed again, more out of mere exhaustion then his normal indignant huffs. He felt clumsy for some reason, he attributed it to how ragged this creature was running him. As it was he was having trouble remembering just what he was doing. Was he looking for shelter? Maybe he was searching for food. Why did he feel so heavy? Suddenly he was yanked yet again, and he remembered he was ferrying something around.

What was he ferrying around? Whatever it was, it was heavy, heavy then the things he was normally used to. What was doing out here anyway? it was cold, he should be somewhere, with a full belly and a roof over his head. He began to search for such a place, just as he felt his head being yanked around yet again.

What was with this creature on top of him? Maybe he should throw him off, and go some where else. Then again, he was to tired to throw him off. Didn't help that his entire body felt like constant moving jello.

Time seemed to drag on and on. Why was he out here? at least he was no longer shivering. He felt like he was on a quest. A quest for something. What this something was, he knew not. He just knew he had to keep pushing forward, or else, he would never complete the quest. Maybe he had lost one of the young ones. Had he lost one of the young ones? How terrible? He must have lost one of the children. No wonder he was out here. However... that didn't explain the creature on his back. The one thing that kept him going. Even though he wanted nothing more than to just lay down and sleep.

Suddenly a large looming slope seemed to be facing him, and for some reason he was going right at it. He thought he smelt a wampa, but was far too exhausted to care. Taking his first step up the slope, he tried to keep up the brisk pace he had been keeping, despite, the feeling that he couldn't so much as take another step with out falling.

Step after agonizing step. It all began to blur, until it was nothing but the state of existence for him. Suddenly he felt lighter as the creature seemed to jump off of him. Briefly, he flashed back to something.

Echo Base Officer: You'll freeze to death before you reach the first marker!

Han Solo: Then I'll see you in Hell!

What had they said? Alas if only he knew, perhaps he wouldn't even be here. His chest felt like it was on fire, yet he couldn't feel anything else. Suddenly the realization hit him. He was dying. With a sudden roar, he made toward the creature. Unable to take a step however, he simply collapsed on the cold unforgiving ice and looked at the creature that had ridden him to death.

Perhaps the creature would do something, instead it seemed to be wandering off, as if it was going to continue with out him. How sad, to be tossed aside like some kind of refuse.

A slow sigh escaped him as he noticed that despite his best efforts, he couldn't smell any of the lichens he had been dreaming about on the creature. How terrible, he couldn't even get a meal from this thing.

Twelve seconds before his heart stopped, it watched as teh creature began to drift further and further away from him.

Six seconds before his heart stopped, he briefly wondered, if he had lost a child or youngling out here. If he had, what would happen?

Four seconds before he died, he was able to remember the last thing he ate. A single mushroom, it had been oh so delicious. Especially on such a frost bitten world as this.

Two seconds before his heart stopped, he thought he saw a bright light hovering near his stomach region. if he didn't know any better, it would seem that the creature had come back.

As the cold icy fingers of death began to wrap around his heart like a bird of prey gripping a mouse, his mind drifted back to a time, where things were what they seemed. One was not ridden for who knows how long, only to die with out so much of a last meal. Then a sharp piercing pain over took him, as he felt he was sliced in half.

So this is the end...

He tried to sigh but nothing was working, he could only feel his insides exposed to the harsh outside winds. He couldn't hear a labored breath, nor feel the blood pumping through his veins. If anything, he would think he was dead.

At last, sleep overtook him, and he drifted off into a deep dark fog.

OMG. So different! This is entirely a different twist on a fanfiction. I've never seen anyone write from a creature's perspective, it took me a little bit to pick up on but when I did, I was quite impressed. I wouldn't think a wampa would be that sentient, but still, it was facinating... and horrifying. Great work.

He couldn't hear a labored breathe

Breath?

Really, quite an intense fic, an inevitable ending, and that made it all the better. Worse. Well. Yeah. You know.

Just when I thought it was over, I watched Tiana kick Almira in the head, effectively putting her out of her misery. I did not expect that.
