As Brina said she would join them on their holiday, both Kalyani and Mellani raced to her side, throwing their arms around their Aunt. Laughing Zara jokingly spoke up, "Well I don't think the girls are happy with your answer Brina, what do you think?"

"What's going on?" Kan asked, scratching his head as he walked into the room.

"Aunt Brina's coming with us!" the two girls chorused.

Zara looked on with a grin on her face, "Okay girls. You better let Aunt Brina go so she can go and pack too." She winked at her friend. "Glad you're coming along."

Brina grinned at the girls' enthusiasm. "It'll be fun."

She shook her head. "I'll be back soon. Actually, why don't I meet you in the hangar? You guys are almost packed, and I'm sure you want to get out of here before something else comes up." The last comment was directed more at Zara.

She headed back to her room, grabbing a black bag and tossing in a few outfits. She also added some of her more formal things. After grabbing her toiletrees and stuffing them in the bag, she changed into a simple traveling jumpsuit with a nice black jacket over it. Then she toted her bag down to the hangar.

"Sure, we'll meet you there. We'll take one of the freighters"

After Brina had gone to pack her bag, Zara headed into her own room to pack her's. She threw in a shipsuit, along with a couple of dresses, shoes, boots, shirts and pants. In the bathroom she gathered her personal items, packing them too. A few other items packed and she was ready.

"You ready kids? Time to go" Zara called as she came out. Her children were ready and waiting, the tutor carrying Mellanie's bag out and placing it down with the rest. Using the intercom Zara called one of the droids to carry all their baggage down to the hanger. It wasn't a long wait before the droid arrived with the carry float, lifting all the bags onto it and heading down to the hanger bay with Zara and her family following.

Down in the hanger she had the droid load the bags while the children raced in ahead of her to pick their bunks. Knowing that Brina wouldn't be too far behind them, Zara went through to the cockpit to begin the preflight checks. If the twins were lucky, she'd let them have a go at piloting the freighter to it's destination.

Brina arrived just in time to see Mellanie disappear up the boarding ramp of one of the company freighters. She stopped briefly to set her ship's security system--just in case--before following the blonde girl up the ramp.

Dropping her bag off on her bunk, she headed up to the cockpit. "You kids better get strapped in," she called over her shoulder.

Entering the cockpit, she flashed a smile at Zara and plopped down in the copilot's seat. "I can't remember the last time we flew together."

"Neither can I" Zara answered then glanced back towards Kane and Kalyani. "Do you think I should let the twins fly us there?" She raised her eyebrow at her friend, waiting to hear the response from the twins as they registered what she said.

"Can we, can we, can we?" was the chorus as they came racing into the cockpit. Zara laughed and turned in her seat to face Brina. "Shall we?" With her head she motioned towards the two seats behind the pilot's and co-pilots.

Brina grinned. "Well....I suppose so..."

At the twins' excited chatting, she slipped into the back seats with Zara and Mellanie, who had come up to the cockpit with her siblings. She refrained from saying anything as the twins powered up the engines and slowly lifted the ship out of the hanger. There was no atmosphere to travel through, and Kane even remembered to get final clearance to leave.

She grabbed Mellanie's hand, who was looking very left out, and turned to the navicomputer. "Come on, I'll show you how to request the coordinates, and you can tell your sister when they're ready so that we can go into hyperspace."

A mournful looking Mellanie brightened up with Brina's suggestion, squeezing her tiny body closer between Brina's chair and the wall of the ship so that she could get a closer look. She excitedly squeezed Brina's hand head swiveling from her Aunt to the navi-computer.

--

The twins grinned at each other, excitement radiating from them so that even a non-force user would have to be quite dense not to feel it. Zara smiled proudly at her eldest children then across to Brina, offering a wink and an encouraging nod towards Mellanie.

The ship left the private hanger, the twins doing a good job of keeping the ship level as the co-ordinates were inserted. As per a protocol that they'd had drilled into them, they had random jumps set before their final destination.

Kane and Kalyani met each others eyes once more, grey to gold and nodded their heads in unison. As one, they both rested a hand over the lever, pulling it down together and sending the ship into hyperspace.

  • 4 weeks later...

After nearly a week's stay at the Golden Link, Sol Kadav emerged from his hotel room, his luggage in tow. He made his way out of the hotel and to the hangar where his ship was currently docked, and a number of service droids were scurrying about. Before he boarded his ship, he took the device that disabled his missile launcher off of his arm and set it onto one of the trays that one of the droids had attached to its frame.

---

Minutes later, the Silver Eagle took off, bound for Courscant, and the Black Sun Citadel.

Ganelon leaves the table, cashing in his chips at a healthy profit, and departs the Link with another unsufferably smug look on his face. Despite the allure of the casino and the fun here, enough was enough, and Ganelon wanted to get back into the thick of things.

Boarding his ship, he takes off, deciding to check out the new Hutt lord and see what profit he could make.

As the ship came out of hyperspace over the Casino, it immediately recieved clearance to land. Brina brought it in for a smooth landing, then grabbed Zara's hand as she tried to leave the cockpit. "Not so fast. I have a few questions for you. Just listen to me before you make that call."

She waited until Zara had sat back down. "First, who is the man who sent the transmission, and how could you tell who it was? This seems very straightforward to me. He's trying to lure you to him. It's a classic bounty hunter move. That's why the message was so vague. Pressure you to do something so that you play right into his hands."

She raised her eyebrows. "Is whoever-it-is's financial backing so crucial to us? I seem to remember that there is only one group who's pull back would affect us in a drastic way."

"I don't know for sure... I suspect it's someone to do with Piccolo or Black Sun. They've been threatening us ... me in particular... for years. I'm not going to put myself into a position where I'll end up kidnapped and tortured again." Her voice trailed off as her thoughts went back to that time... She had been captured by Piccolo and his cohorts just after she'd been raped by that sith cretin. The only good thing to come out of that was her miscarrying the brat he'd impregnated her with. That was something she just wanted to forget.

But he won't let me forget... A tiny voice within her mind stated. She'd received that note with the baby rattle and blanket... then her secretary had told her of another "gift" that had shown up that Security had disposed of rather than have Zara reacting badly to what had been sent. There hadn't been anything since the last lot but she felt she had to keep looking over her shoulder regardless.

Bringing her thoughts back to Brina, "You're right. There's only one client that would affect us and I very much doubt that will happen as he's a silent partner here. We've plenty of clients that are loyal to us and have new clients all the time. Which reminds me. I want to catch up with Julio again... since he is Exodus's representative and since he owns the planet one of our shipyards orbit."

She sighed, knowing she was babbling on. "Being as it seems it's a classic bounty hunters tactic, what do you think I should do about it? Ignore it? Only for the astromech droid in the freighter monitoring the holonet and forwarding info on to me I wouldn't have seen it..."

The time Zara spent away was interestingly enough cut very short as Idejjen was informed of her ship pulling back into one of the Golden link's hangars. Idejjen's patrols had been long and uneventful for the most part with Ida accompanying him serving as a valuable conversation companion.

Nothing had really happened of note at the Link, except maybe a few jackpot winners. Idejjen was sorry to think of it, but he was kind of wishing something bad would've happened so he would be able to exercise his responsibilities to Zara,, but the opportunity never arose in all the time he had. However quite an interesting comm aimed at the link aired over the Holonet that attracted his attention.

Idejjen had a slight hunch that this was the reason Zara had returned home as quick as she did, but he couldn't be sure. He didn't know if her vacation spot would really air the gory things that have been happening on the Holonet lately, but from what it looked like, this message seemed to directly call Zara out of the link... No doubt hoping to dispose of her... If Zara's previous gifts were of any indication.

Idejjen was nearing the last of his rounds when the comm came through sending him rapidly toward the indicated hangar with Ida in tow. He moved for civillians as they passed, but his big lumbering brown wookie figure made it quickly through the populace nonetheless. Navigating his way to the hangar and spotting Zara talking with Brina as they exited the ship...

"Zara, Brina! Nice to see both of you are still in one piece! ..."

As she was waiting to see what Brina suggested, she motioned for them to leave the ship. Her mind was racing... what should she do...? If this was a trap she'd need defences of her own. Zara used her internal comm, sending out several messages, asking for information and varying items to be on hand... also a particular item to be created for her... She sent one of these comm's to the Link's security detachment on the base on Coruscant, another to the weapons master on the casino, and yet another to a particular friend of hers, Draken Shadowlord. He'd helped her with some training previously, being a Sith, maybe he had something she could use. He did say to contact her at any time if she needed him.

"Zara, Brina! Nice to see both of you are still in one piece! ..."

"Hi Idejjen. I gather you saw the message I got forwarded. What's your thoughts?" She looked from one to the other.

**

The children had raced off the ship, heading straight for the apartment with their tutor in tow. They knew something was up due to the early departure and how both their mother and Aunt were agitated. The twins helped settle their younger sister, keeping her distracted.

"That's exactly what I think you should do," Brina replied. "Ignore it completely. Don't give this mysterious man the upper hand."

She followed Zara out of the ship and greeted Idejjen before turning back to Zara. "You can't let these bounty hunters and Sith Lords and whoever else get to you--physically or emotionally. We can only take what is dealt us in life. No need to go making it more dangerous for yourself."

She hoped Zara would listen to her. This felt an aweful lot like when Zara was kidnapped by Ar-Pharazon, and she didn't want to have this story end the same way.

A communication is sent from the Tri-Fearium VI VI VI to the Golden Link, which is cruising through space far, far from the station. A large, helmeted head popped onto a screen, with an oversized, vile grin.

”œGood afternoon Ms. Nargul. Ar-Pharazon the Great bids thee fond greetings. I am here on his behalf, to bring you news of his business proposition, and I think you'll find it quite generous. In his infinite knowledge, he would like to purchase fifty-one percent of the stock in the Golden Link in return for a glorious cash settlement of five hundred million credits and a pledge, ensuring your safety from him.”

Receiving the comm, Zara flicked her hand unit on so that Brina and Idejjen could see that message... "This is getting beyond a joke. I will NOT be blackmailed. I think it's time to take some other action. We're going higher. We'll take this to Emperor Black and let him know what is happening to his citizens. We're a neutral organisation and as such shouldn't be subjected to this. Our home base is Coruscant... despite where we travel to with the Casino..." She looked from one to the other. "You heard what that joker said. He mentioned our Headquarters on Coruscant. Alert the security there in case he tries something."

Alerted to another holonet broadcast, she flicked the channel of her unit to show it. Zara took a shuddering breath, tears welling in her eyes as she saw the poor children killed for all to see and the killer saying that she hired him. Her distraught voice was barely a whisper, "Those children... how could he...?" Her legs felt weak... her thoughts going to her own children... why was she being framed like that... "I have no idea on who that Nagai is... have either of you seen him before?" Again her eyes went from Brina to Idejjen, "We'll gather copies of all those messages and send them to the Emperor. I don't know if he would be willing to help or not but we are a family friendly organisation... he can check my records if he needs to..." Her face was pale, her body shaky. Why was she being targeted like this? She had to keep her own children safe...

Unsteady, she slowly made her way towards her office, her mind racing around in circles. She wanted to know what Idejjen and Brina thought... and would alert Kheldar as well, let him know that they were being blackmailed again. Once in her office she sank down into her seat, trying to compose herself. Once she had herself moderately steady she turned to her monitor, bringing up and copying the comm message and holonet messages. These were attached to an encrypted comm to the Emperor's office on Coruscant.

Breaking hyperspace, a ship slowly approached the Link and gained , clearance to dock. It was an unmarked Republic Sienar Systems Star Courier and looked practically brand new. . Docking with the Link, it took several moments before the doors opened and a single occupant exited the vessel.

The fingerprints and everything matched up. He did indeed check out as Durose Roshan. Suited in a black leather sleeveless vest, dark baggy military style pants, black boots with red lining and black gloves, the Cathar made his way across the bay towards the hanger bay exit. The tall alien's crimson cloak flowed behind him as he walked.

Entering the main facility, he headed towards the security headquarters. Once there, Roshan brought up a comm channel.

"Patch me through to Brina Thalin, please."

Brina nodded. "That's an excellent idea, Zar. The Emperor may not have direct power over these bounty hunters, but it is a good idea to seek his jurisdiction if nothing else."

She mostly ignored the message from the Mouth of Ar-Pharazon. She had already had as many dealings with him as she ever wanted to. She knew that he truly did represent Ar-Pharazon's will, but there was no way period that the Sith Master would be allowed to buy shares in the organization. And she knew he knew that. So she ignored it. At the second holonet broadcast, however, Brina bit back a curse. These hunters certainly had done their homework; they knew exactly what to do to push Zara's buttons. A new worry nagged at her mind with that thought; she and Idejjen and the Link security might not be enough to protect Zara and the kids if LAP and others were after them. She pondered it for a moment, and, having followed Zara to her office, spoke. "If the Emperor can offer no firm agreements, why don't we send the kids off to the Jedi? Or ask for Jedi protection for them? I don't think it would be out of line."

Just then, her comm beeped. Excusing herself, she stepped out of the room. "Yes?" she answered.

"Mr. Roshan would speak with you, Ms. Thalin."

"Durose Roshan?" she exclaimed. "Put him through!"

"I don't want to put my children at risk. I'd have to be sure that they could be protected... You saw what they did to those innocent children... I don't want to see that happen to Kane, Kalyani or Mellani..."

As they were talking, one of her security officers knocked on the door, approaching them and stating to look on the bounty hunters network. Since they'd used hunters from there before, they monitored it from time to time. Zara slumped in her chair. Why were they doing this? Why were they trying to destroy all that she had worked for? Zara rested her head in her hands, fighting to keep composed.

Reaching with a lethargic hand towards the keyboard she scanned the databanks for what she was looking for. With luck, these people would be available and willing to protect her and the Link Organisation as a whole. But how to contact them? She looked up at Brina, the stress she was under clear in her demeanour, "Can you contact the Jedi and Alliance, see if they can aid us any? It shouldn't break their truce surely to help someone out that is being maliciously attacked by a Sith...? I've already sent that message to the Emperor..." She had her doubts that they would be able to do anything either. She was clutching at straws.

"With those kinds of allegations being made, should we close the Casino? I know that's what they want... part of their destruction of us..." Her voice trailed off. Surely their patrons wouldn't believe the lies being spread... ?

The only thing that seemed to brighten her was hearing that Durose had returned, her stormy grey eyes meeting with Brina, "See if he can join us... we need all the help we can get..."

Her eyes went back to the screen in front of her, staring at it a long moment in time before she composed a message. After she sent it, another message came across the screen... from the Grandmaster of the Jedi. She looked up at Brina, motioning for her to look at the screen. Maybe her children might be safe after all...?

Brina bit her lip again as the bounty scrolled out. "Unfortunately, Zar, I think we probably should close the Casino for a while. At least until this whole thing blows over." If it does. She paused. "We can't risk the safety of our patrons, despite the negative image it might place on us. We can keep our other operations going, but since this Casino has been targeted specifically and as a whole...well, we can't have someone getting hurt."

She also glanced at the message from the Grandmaster. At least the Jedi were still on their side. You know, if any more people get involved, the entire galaxy might as well be invovled. "I'll contact them," she promised.

Turning back to her comlink, she waited for Ro to be put on.

Brina smiled. "Of course you can come in," she replied over her comm. "It'll be good to see you in person again!"

While Durose went through the remaining security checks, Brina opened the door to the office. She knew that the Cathar knew the way in. Peering over Zara's shoulder, she watched as the Link's proprietess sent out messages to the Empire and the ad on the holonet.

She then punched in the Grandmaster's commnumber to her comlink and sent off a message to the Jedi regarding the kids.

Artemis sat at the controls on a Lamba shuttle as it flew through hyperspace heading from the planet of Serenno to the Golden Link Casino at the request of his master. He picked up the datapad that contained the files that his master the Count Shadowlord had sent him. The files contained all the information that he would need for his placement at the casino. After checking the primary files, Artemis began to check the secondary files which contained much of the history of the casino and the trouble that was now going on. He shook his head and sighed as the console in front of him beeped as it exited hyperspace near the casino.

He took the controls of the shuttle, broadcasting his identification and his place of departure. With that done he guided the shuttle into the hanger bay and disembarked from his shuttle with the ease and grace of a noble.

With the messages sent, Zara sat back in her chair attempting to get on top of the stressful situation. She closed her eyes, worried that her children would end up in the middle of this... that they would be in danger. As Brina sent the message off to the Jedi Grand Master she focused on her breathing, on keeping calm as Sabian had once taught her to do. If the Jedi did agree to protect her children, Mellanie might learn a bit more about her father's heritage... She hoped that the twins and youngest would see this not as sending them away, but as what it was... keeping them safe. She'd had to be separated from the twins at their birth and that had been extremely hard... this separation would be hard as well but she had to keep them safe...

As the shuttle docked and the noble exited his ship, he was met by the docking crew. "Welcome to the Golden Link Sir. We hope you enjoy your stay."

The dock worker nodded his head towards the nobleman. He took the datapad, glancing at it to see that it was authentic. He sent off a comm to the lobby so they would know he was coming through. A guide soon arrived to the front desk to sign him in and to escort him to Zara's office.

"I am Keynan Amor. If you care to come this way I can organise your accommodation." He led the nobleman over to a desk where he quickly organised his room, slipping his key across the desk towards him. "I can show you to your room now or would you rather see Ms Nargal first?"

Having received a message that there was someone to meet her, Zara rose from behind her desk. "We have a visitor from Serenno. I'll go see him." As she moved around the desk, she contacted a security detail that went with her into the meeting room he would be brought to. Zara arrived just before he did and was seated when he entered. She stood as he bowed, then sat once more indicating for him to do so also.

"Yes, I am Zara Nargal." She nodded her head thoughtfully as he spoke, telling her that he had been sent by the Count. "Pleased to meet you. How is Count Shadowlord? Well I hope?"

The Cathar entered with a smile.

"Brina Thalin," his voice rumbled.

He stood at the door for a second waiting for her to turn around before approaching to hug her.

With a grin on his face, Roshan addressed her, "It has been a long time. Far too long. How have you and the Link been holding up without me?"
