  1. I'm doing great, Ami! I've been super busy but now that summertime has finally rolled around I finally have time to devote to more worthy pursuits...like bothering you guys . How is your insanely amazing writing going? I want to read your novel!!! Brendo!!! I've missed your crazy awesomeness too, and I think I will hang around for a bit. I've missed you all insanely. Hehehe...you know what they say, NG, third time's a charm. I really, really enjoyed reading your poems by the way. Simplicity in poetry has always impressed me more than excessive verbosity and superfluous jibber-jabber that is utterly, completely, totally, absolutely and unequivocally convoluted to the point where no one individual can comprehend even the merest semblance of meaning that the poet in question intended to convey.
  2. Kick Ass Characters - Because the greatest plot in the world won't work if the people involved in the caper are boring!
  3. I like how "light" (almost always a positive thing) suddenly takes on a negative connatation when the protagonist feels "light headed". I also really like how you contrast "light" (the candle flame) and dark (sulphur) because they symbolically represent the war that the soldier has been caught in. Well done! That was my favourite line too!
  4. Ami, this piece is incredible! You mentioned you went to Africa in a PM you sent me a while back, but this post really makes your whole experience come alive. I love, love, love how how you organized your memories by sense to beautifully evoke a sense of time and place. The rough, unedited feel only adds to the rawness of this piece. A few of my favourite lines: This passage is incredibly moving to me. I love how the "foreign" becomes "a sound of comfort" as time passes, and you get to know the place and people you have chosen to spend your time with. Beautiful. Simply beautiful. I have never had Malian tea, but should I ever get the opportunity to try some I feel I know what to expect based on your vivid description. Ahh..this whole paragraph is amazing. I've read it thrice now, trying to figure out why I like it so much. The descriptions are incredible it's true, but so is the subject matter. In many respects, the place you describe is foreign to me yet I feel connected to it. Why? Because you've forged connections between your world and theirs by highlighting the commonalites while respecting the differences. There is a wonderful sense of shared humanity in this whole piece that really speaks to me. Thanks so much for sharing, Ami. I really loved reading this.
  5. I absolutely love poetry, and this poem in particular is quite beautiful. I like how you use the word "burning" in the second line and then add the word "cool" in the third; the contrast paints a very vivid, very evocative picture even though the words themselves are so simple. I have to disagree with this statement. For one thing, I know a lot of adults who enjoy building sandcastles and playing cricket or volleyball. I actually like how this poem alludes to children, and by extension, those innocent and carefree summer days that we never truly experience as adults. Don't you miss having the entire summer off to do as you please all day? I know I do.
  6. *tries to log out when she notices that the logout button has vanished into thin air!* "Egad! What tomfoolery be this?!" cries DV as she frantically attacks her browser with a barrage of giant pink, chinchilla shaped marshmallows. "Well you know what they say, when you can't beat 'em...join 'em!" *DV pulls Brendo, Ami, Tiana and NG into a fierce bear hug--the marshmallows, feeling left out, stand aside sullenly and shuffle their feet* Ahhh....I've missed you all!!!! How has everyone been? How are all your novels/fanfics doing? Who wants cornflakes?
  7. "S**t" Viper thought , taken by surprise as managed to break free of the force that held her in mid air.She fell down, landing on her feet and ran towards Impious at full speed, turning slightly to the left mere seconds before she reached him ,and turned around ducking a blow.Using her saber to swipe at his feet knocking him down on the ground.
  8. Viper took Impede's advice and decided her eyes were useless in this matter anyway. No matter how hard she tried she couldnt tell where Impede was.The whole point, she thought, was to use the darkside and let them serve as her sense's. Viper held her saber, a bit more awkwardly than she thought she should have and reached out to the darkness. And it came at her call.Weak at first but then stronger. And more of it..The darkside clouded over her mind like a thick, dark sweeping mist and formed strange symbols and words.A mixture of the two as the universe itself seemed to open up to her.And thats when she heard it.A heartbeat.Proud and stong and dark.Impious. Sensing his attack by bare seconds, she used her saber to block his attack and then pulled it away and attempted to use the saber to slash at Impious's left shoulder.
  9. Viper narrowed her eyes and ignited the saber, struggling to sense Impious who seemed to be enjoying her himself immensely. She tunned out his taunts and concentrated, realizing that using the force was like learning to use any other thing. The more you did it, the better you got with your experience. In her mind the force formed a vague shaky image.A 'form' that seemed to be Impious.Concentrating harder, the shape became slightly clearer. She wasn't absolutely sure but she thought she knew where Impious was. She turned around, her sharp eyes catching a slight twitch of movemnet on one of the trees. It could only be Impious.Igniting the saber, she shifted her weight from one foot to the other.Getting ready to defend herself from an impending atack, when she felt Impious strike. She whirled around and used her saber to defend herself just in time.
  10. Vipers eyes immediately fell on the double bladed one.It looked the most deadly to her for some reason that she couldnt quite understand. It was definately her weapon of choice. She picked up the double bladed one and held it in her hands, admiring every curve of the cylindrical weapon that was beautiful to behold but deadly and dangerous. "This one." Viper said, standing up to face Impede and readying herself for whatever Impede was going to teach her.
  11. Viper inhaled and exhaled deeply.Remembering her mercenary training. She slowly focused and pushed away the pain to the back of her mind, concentrating on other things to get her mind of it.After Impede had healed it, the pain went away but the memory of it seemed to be seared in her mind. But she knew of pain.It was not knew to her.She had dealt with it before and she woul again. When she had composed herself, she looked into Impious in the eyes , calmer then before and nodded. "Yes.I'm fine nowI'm afraid I've failed your test." She said, remembering Impious reffering to it as a test to how she would react to torture. She was angry at herself now.She should have been more in control of herself.Should have reacted calmer. She had failed herself, as far as she was concerned. I am pathetic. She thought to herself angrily, wondering if the sith had made a grave mistake to consider her to have the qualities vested within a sith.
  12. " Now get up." Viper heard those words and felyt like someone had slapped her on the face, as she remembered where she was and who she was looking at through slightly blurred eyes.Impede.It was Impious. She had met him on Coruscant. He was to train her.To be a sith. She wanted to be a sith. Was the pain worth it? No.no.Yes.She would deal with it to be a sith. Struggling, she held back the pain and got up and staggered for a while and then stood up to her full height wincing.Holding back the pain. And the raw anger she felt burning the blood in her veins. She turned to face Impious and looked at him right in the eyes and saw his pleasure at her pain. And at that moment Viper felt nothing but rage and blind fury for him. Without thinking she punched him hard.Right in the gut with all the power and anger she could muster. Her hate larger than life. Her feelings focused on nothing but the hate.
  13. Viper felt like screaming but did not but it was almost impossible.Pain.There was so much pain.Everywhere.Memories came flooding back to her.She knew of torture. She had been beaten. She had been kicked around and now it was happening agian. Why? What? Anger surged through her, as her mind blurred melding past and present. He would pay. They would pay.All of them. They were doing it again. The electrocution. She had almost died that day.Was she dying now? She couldnt remember, couldnt see or think. All she could do was feel.Feel the sharp pain race through her like wildfire. She felt radioactive. As if she was being turned inside out and burned. Her head, mine , her body it hurt. But it was nothing compared to the torture of those memories. How they tortured her soul.
  14. Viper turned to see the Sith Lord Jareth Vermillos and the unmistakable saber that he held in his hand. "Thank you Lord Vermillos." Viper said respectfully, taking the saber from the sith Lord and held it in her hands, admiring the beauty of the deadly weapon. One day, she too would be worthy to posess a weapon with the elegance and presicison as this, but now was not the time.First she would have to prove herself worthy and deserving of it.She would, she decided note how the sith behaved in order to be the 'model' sith'.Look, listen and remember, was her strategy and one day.Soon ,she too, would be a sith Lord. Thinking these various thoughts she waited for her Master to be cloned, and her training to continue.
  15. *Viper quietly slipped away from the scene. The atmosphere in the room was so dense that anyone could probably cut a knife through it.The two Sith were onviously repelled by the other, and she was shocked to see the way the other Sith talked to Raynuk Montar. But then again it wasn't her place.Sure that Raynuk had enough to deal with without an apperentice irritating him, Viper left and used the piece of skin to clone Impede. And then she waited.*
  16. Viper bactracked in her mind, oddly pleased with herself. Her speculations about him being the leader of the Sith was correct, and in a way she was glad to see him a little angry. His calmness had made her wonder about the sith for a while.Question their ruthlesness, and now she was sure. And she had to admit that she felt a new sense of growing respect for Raynuk Montar. The man knew how to get things done, without exerting his power. It was simply there. He also didn't talk in circles and went straight to the point.A quality Viper admired, right then and there Viper decided that she would do whatever it took to be a sith. "Yes.I now understand and see what I could not see before.I am willing to do whatever needs to be done...to die if need be, for the Sith. I will serve the Sith Order and pledge my life to that of darkness, if you will still have me."
  17. Barohm Zar.. Viper thought to herself. She had heard of him, but she still thought it stupid that Impede had not fought. She frankly didnt care whose son he was.'Life was a survival of the fittest'. In her opinion you looked out for yourself first. But it would be anything but wise to declare it so openly and so she stayed silent until the thing she held in her gloved hand was ripped from her. Viper was slightly annoyed at Montar for simply snatching it away but he was a Sith Lord, what else could she expect? She didnt so much as twitch as the force ripped it from her hand, but if Raynuk decided to keep it...well things wouldnt be pretty. "As I mentioned earlier. Master Impede ''sensed' his impending doom and gave me this.A piece of his skin so that I could clone him." Viper continued in a neutral tone of voice, slightly surprised that Raynuk didn't know what it was. Or maybe he was just testing her.One could never be sure of these things.
  18. Viper watched Vauler dissaper as she viewed Raynuk carefully, noting his every move, every word as a computer would ,as she carefully 'stored' the information away in the back of her mind. One thing she'd learned over the years was to talk less, listen more and always learn more about those around you, while revealing nothing about yourself. "I left soon after the battle started. I would have preferred to stay of course but Master Impious felt that I should leave for Mimban.....should he need to be cloned.Obviously his instincts were correct. But I found it strange that he did not fight. He left himself at the mercy of the one called Viano for no logical reason and died soon after." Viper said in her 'straight -forward' way. He was probing her mind. She could feel it, but he did it ever so lightly. His technique facinated him.She wanted this power. She wanted it more than anything. These sith were obviously extremely powerful.A force to be reckoned with. They were ruthless, cunning and merciless. Just like her.
  19. Viper had heard Vauler and she had to admit that the power sounded tempting, but there was a matter of a certain degree of loyalty here. And she truly belived that Impede was more powerful than he appeared to everyone. He just hadnt made his 'mark' .Yet.Even before Raynuk had come ,her mind was already made up.She would clone Impede as he had asked. She then turned to Raynuk, her face emotionless .A mask that betrayed nothing "I feel sorrow as an Apperentice does when their Master has been killed. Its a question of honour and respect." Viper looked at the Sith Master in the eyes and replied calmly. She could instinctively 'feel' that Raynuks intentions were not bad, but she could tell he wanted information from her.Information that she'd rather keep to herself.
  20. Viper was sitting in the cockpit of the ship her mind racing ,as she tried to sense what she could of the ongoing battle on Darthomir, when she heard a shout from outside. She turned to see the same tall, imposing sith that Impede had referred to as 'Montar with his lighsaber firmly in one hand'.He did not seem to be in the best of moods. Checking to see if her dagger and blaster were in place ,incase she would need to get into a 'confrontation' with him,she walked down the ramp and pulled off her hood to show Montar who she was. "Yes.I am not Impede but Viper." She said, when she felt a sudden jolt through the force.A dark force that seemed to suddenly 'consume' another. And though she had not learned much she knew what it meant. Impede was dead.
  21. "I shouldnt have left him.I should have stayed and helped him fight Viano." Viper thought to herself again and again. Leaving like that, she felt like a coward. However she knew Impede was right, if he was killed the piece of skin she now held in her gloved hand would be the only hope of ever resurrecting him again. Gritting her teeth, Viper landed the ship on Mimban as smoothly as she could, remembering the look of anger in the other Siths eyes. What little she knew of him, she could 'sense' that he was powerful. Impede would have his hands full trying to defeat him and it would be no easy challenge. Clutching the shed of skin firmly in her fist, she waited as Impede had instructed .Hoping that she would not have to use it .*
  22. *Viper nodded quickly after catching it and running towards the ship as fast as she could. She jumped in and headed for open space leaving the planet completely.*
