<> be back soon guys...Neo, those two lessons you had in parenthisis of are great interest too me...been following a couple of other threads / stories that indicate all is not harmonius in the order. <> Dashel registered the Master's rebuke. Then his eyes caught sight of his R3 unit and his YT-2400 sitting in place next to Master Neo's ship. He went to the boarding ramp and the small monitor next to it to see why R3 had brought the ship here. He was suprised to see that he had been temporarily recalled to his homeworld to answer a few questions about a being that had been captured trying to sneak into the base where he had once been stationed. The being had claimed to be his property. Dashel shuddered. Slavery was considered barborous on his homeworld and those caught practicing it were routinely executed by explosive decompression. "Master, I deeply regret this. I will meet up with you when I can. This will also be the last such interruption from my former homeworld until I finish training. That will be made absolutely clear to those who issued this call." Dashel reigned in his anger at the interuption. It would do him no good. He boarded the Ti before he changed his mind and lifted off. His last impression of Master Neo was a certain tightness around his eyes that indicated a great displeasure. Sahv had already been involved with Master Neo's next lesson, but Dashel was sure the training wouldn't be nearly the same for him.

"Sahv, is it me, or is our master concentrating on making us weapons of some sort?," snarled Dashel as he glanced around the room for additional exits. Seeing none existed, Dashel knew they would have to follow Master Neo's lead to exit the room. Dashel gathered his discharged blasters, putting into them his last two blaster catridges. Then, hurriedly, he created a snowball from the ice and snow packing the outter edges with bits of crystal and ice. Into this snowball he jammed the two converted power packs from his belt pack and grinned savagely at Sahv. "No, it won't catch him unawares but he will be dealing with it while we get out of here." So saying, Dashel finished the last connection and quietly gathered the force into his tired body. He leaped towards the hole, grabbing the rim and getting a purchase with the claws of his left hand. His right hand lobbed the make shift bomb at a slight angle away from the whole. Dashel flipped the other way and immediately dropped to his stomach. He covered his ears even as the stun bomb went off. Immediately he looked around to located Sahv, indicating they should be off and away from this place. <> guys, I will be away from any computers starting Saturday and going through LATE Tuesday. Can we please wrap up Ilum before then at which time I will have my character recieve and urgent call from an unidentified source and then get back to you after Tuesday <>

Dashel followed Sahv's lead. He moved to Sahv's left, almost brushing the wall of the small room. He reached out for the force, trusting in it to guide his actions over the coming moments. Guide him it did, but not towards the shadow that Sahv had pointed out, nor towards his blasters. Instead he felt himself pulled towards a crystal in the wall. It was the one he had seen in his earlier vision, and he could see it as the brightest star among a room full of stars. It pulsed in time with his heart and spirit. He nearly died with fright as he reached out for it and it seemed to fall eagerly into his hands. Briefly, he lost himself in the facets that peeked out from the rocky matrix which encrusted it. Dashel slipped the crystal into a convienient pocket and then set about helping Sahv. Though he had been distracted for but a moment, Dashel chided himself for the distraction. He focussed on the shadow, though he remembered Master Neo's admonition to never lose the crystal. He immediately began watching for attempts to remove it from his person via the force or more mundane means. through the force, Dashel sent an impression to Sahv of Sahv needing to find his crystal quickly. Dashel could feel the warning from the force of the caves deteriotating condition. With each passing moment the cave was growing more unstable. Unstable too, was Dashel's condition. The constant anxiety, multiple attacks, and neccessary concentration was depleting his energy rapidly. He knew he could continue the pace they were keeping for a little while longer, but knew it was time to complete their mission and regroup to consolidate what they knew and how to procede.

Dashel broke out in a a cold sweat. Twice he and Sahv had been confronted by individuals in black. One had radiated hostility through the force while the other had simply been a physical being without a force presence. Yet that second being had tugged their weapons away from them using the force. Dashel recongnized the trap his mind was setting for him. The noise and confusion were beginning to disorient him. He settled back on the link with Sahv and the force as anchors among the chaos. He grunted, then looked at Sahv, "Do you have any other weapons on you? If not, you want this old lightsaber?" As he waited for Sahv to answer, Dashel took two of the spare powerpacks he had and began wiring them together. He purposely left the last connection undone. Their mysterious force user was in for a suprise should they ever catch him in a blind room. He silently thanked the veteran whom showed him this trick. Most people would never think of wiring two power packs together to intentionally form a stun grenade, most just put them together to make a large explosion. Dashel felt sorry for the being ahead should he or she get caught by the resulting stun blast. Waking up from it felt like the worst hangover anyone could concieve of. He settled his device in a pouch, making sure to keep his hand on the final connection before proceeding forward.

"Sahv, let's move forward toward the voice. One problem at a time. I think staying alert and staying aware of each other are our best bet at this time. Caution, as you mentioned, is definately called for we are most certaintly playing someone elses game. Let's go and get some information on what we are facing and if possible, pull back and assess what we find. Then we can decide whether or not we need to call for Master Neo." Dashel took point, figuring his combat training would help him deal effectively with direct physical threats while Sahv with his better force skills could help him deal with any other threats. He picked up his blasters and put the old lightsaber back on his belt. It was then he realized that he had ignited it almost on an instinctual level. Igniting a lightsaber is easy, most of the time its a matter of finding the right switch. Somehow, though, I knew to use the force to guide my cutting of that ice rock. What is going on?[/i]

Dashel heard the voice through his connection with the force. For a moment, he thought it familiar but the urgency behind it and the repeated attacks removed any time for contemplation. The person doing the manipulation was playing them like harp strings. That had to change. It had been drilled into him time and time again. Act with hestitation how you wanted to, never react to an opponenets moves. The question at the moment was what moves he had to make. The chasm behind was jumpable, but there was the possibility of an opponent back there. Going forward as the voice urged was the prelude to being ambushed and ambushed very well. A second ticked by and Dashel was no closer to the answer than before. The force was strangely quiet, a fact that he remarked to Sahv with a murmor. Something was disturbingly familiar about the whole situation. It was that similiarity that was eating at him. The second second went by and Dashel still had not acted. His mind raced sorting through the possibilities and tools he had at his disposal. One fact kept coming to him, he was facing a force user of great skill in stealth at the vary least. A solution presented itself, one that he should share with Sahv. In private. "Sahv, remember the link we shared before to ward off Master Neo?" Dashel asked. "We need some privacy, and I think I know a way to get it." [/i]

Dashel's leap was indeed powered by the force, but he erred slightly in the length of the leap. Tossing his blasters onto the ice ahead of him, he fell short and had to scramble up to the ledge using his claws. He got to his feet, in time to hear the creature bellow in rage or fear. He was not sure why it was retreating, as he felt physically corrupted by its presence and knew it was stronger than both he and Sehv. He saw with relief that his pistols had landed a little farther into the cave. He didn't have much time to ponder when another attack came his way. Still immersed in the force, he had enough forwarning to act and drew the lightsaber he had brought with him from Trian. He dodged the ice chunk tossed at him, turning a complete circle as he did so, ignited the blade and chopped the back half of the block off taking cover opposite the direction the attack had originated. Panting heavily, he looked over to see how Sahv had faired. Reliable friends were rare, and Sahv had consistantly proven himself over the short friendship. On the other hand, Dashel had begun to think that while the bridge and ice missles were related, the creature that had initially attacked them was a seperate problem.

Dashel snarled a warning Sahv's way before the bride collapsed, but too late to get his friend safely back. He bristled, then crouched low and spun in a slow circle., ending up with his back to the canyon. He sat motionless for over a minute, hands curled reflexively over the handles of his twin blasters. He failed to notice he had let go of the force. After assuring himslef that no ambush lurked behind them, he called out to Sahv. "I am going to make the leap, shouldn't be a problem. is the ledge strong enough on your side to take my weight?" He prepared himself, making sure that he had good traction for the leap ahead. Something was lacking and Dashel did not realize it unitl Sahv asked him fi he knew how to augment hs own physique with the force Dashel listened to the instructions, and then reached out to the force to do as instructed. "Beginner's mistake," he thought, "one I am not going to get to repeat too often." Following Sahv's instructions, Dashel extended his awareness into the force and then focussed on increasing his strength to make the leap. It took a short time, but with Dashel's persistence and Sahv's patience, Dashel was comfortable enought that he ran to the very edge of the chasm before leaping. Mid leap, a flash of Darkness in the force alerted him at the same time Sahv must have felt it. Dashel roared an unneccessary warning and drew his blasters at the three meters of towering that had emerged from its hiding place in the ceiling above Sahv's head. Dashel fired, bu the dark creature before them deflected the bolts using the dobule red blade it held between its claws.[/i]

Sahv's remark stopped Dashel in his tracks. He had been so busy preparing for the challenges on Ilum, that had forgotten about the greatest challenge in his life at this moment. ”œYou know Sahv, I really hadn't thought of Master Neo's whereabouts. When he decides to show, he will. Until then, you and I have some crystals to find and those caves out there are the most likely spot on this giant snowball.”

In one of the smaller caves of Ilum, the guardian stirred. Black fur rippled in readiness, energy crackled along its spine and flared briefly from ebony talons. It sensed someone reaching out and stirriing one of its children, causing the matrix of its birth to melt and flake away. The being was old. It had lived long past its lifespan and now sustained itself with the gifts the master had given it . A gift that the master said she should use to protect the children of this cavern for here would come one who could not love the children of her world. He must be stopped along with all who the searched. She stares outward for a moment, searching the air for a sign that a searcher is coming. When she does not feel one, she retreats inward to the place where the master told her to search when this cavern's children stirred. The guardian finds what she is looking for. Names and faces appear in her mind's eye. Its the greatest of these minds, the dark haired human whom she sees as the key whom she senses nearby but somehow cloaked from her inner sight. The grin that forms on her face is predatory and vicious. Where the inner spirit fails there is the ancient tools, the nose to scent, the ears to hear the stinking breath and racing heart. Her master gave her form and gave her function. When she was ready, he gave her a name. Nauth left the children and strode out into Ilum's ice wastes. A chill went up her spine. It was not the chill of cold, but the thrill of a hunt whose prey would fall to the red blades master had presented her with on the day he had left. <> yeah, got the cheese going, but hey, lets have a little fun. <>
  11. While waiting for Sahv, Dashel busied himself among the ship's cockpit, checking and rechecking the instrumentaion for any flutter in the ship's drive. He smiled after a short while, knowing that he was a fool for doing so. The ship might be old, but its owner had maintained constant vigilance over its systems and they worked as good as new, probably better if he was not mistaken. He sighed, jealous, and hoped that he could do as well for his ship. Eventually, he drifted off to a semi-conscious state. It was in this state that he got his first taste of being connected with the force. He wasn't trying to survive, pass a test, or prepare for a future. The effect was exhilarating. Dashel could feel Sahv's gentle presence and felt a bit of envy for the more experienced padawan. Sahv's presence in the force was solid, yet light and flowed outward with the force. For a moment, Dashel observed the older padawan than tried to imitate his style of submersion. Dashel thought he was on the verge when a klaxon sounded, letting them know they had entered the Ilum system. <> Ilum, here we come. First post there is yours! <>
  12. When he was hit by the power of his force vision, Dashel was prepared for it. All the work to clear his mind of worry and to relax his physical self, allowed hum to focus on what and where the force was guiding him without trying to impose his will on it. He drifted with the force, giving himself to it, and he found the crystals he was looking for. The first crystal was rough hewn. It would need extensive work. A hint of its final coloring, the deep green of the ocean, peered thourgh the surrounding matrix. It pulsed in time to his heart, calling to him through the vastness of space. His spirit entered the crystal, sufusing (sp?) it with life giving energy, allowing the crystal to melt away the ice covering that had hidden it for a millenia. There were other presences there, but Dashel did not have time to study them, save to find that one was a being of good, while the other was a fell guardian. Dashel knew that he had to overcome this being. Then the force swept him outward, moving him away from Ilum. For a short time, all was blackness, then he became aware. The room was hazy, beyond his expectation. It was warm, the air close and stagnant with the sweat of many unwashed bodies. Through the dense mist, a feminine being colored in a radiant yellow approached him. She carried the second set of crystals, colored the deep orange of a fallen autumn leaf and already completed. Again, he sensed two presences, one good and one different. He lacked the experience to say why or how. When he awoke from his meditations, Dashel was dazed, and suprised. He had expected to awaken with but mere moments having passed as usual. Instead, he was suprised to discover that they were but a few hours from exitting hyperspace near Ilum. Briefly, he though about his vision, and decided that he would ask Sahv to help him recover the first set of crystals. He felt sure the good presence he had felt would be his fellow padawan. As for the fell one, it would wait until they arrived at the caves. The second stones were after Ilum, that much Dashel knew. He just didnot when or where he would find them. The force had apprarently decided to egnimatic and vague. He wondered if the force reflected the jedi or the jedi reflected the force.
  13. Dashel left the room and headed for a bank of storage units he had noticed earlier. Carefully rifling through them, he eventually found the cold weather survival gear that he and his fellow padawan would need. With little information on how long they would be exposed or to even what they were going to be exposed to he would equip them for a medium duration, high difficulty stay. He keyed the ship's intercom to general broadcast and said, "Sahv, I have prepared a cold weather bundle for you. I will put it at the foot of your bunk. Maybe its not very Jedi to do so, but with the relatively little information we have, I though it might be wise to prepare." Dashel dropped the package for Sahv off at the padawan's bunk. He then proceeded to an empty compartment with a pair of training sabers to see how they could be adapted to some of the temple sequences he had trained in. An indifferent student to those sequences, (he passed at the bottom of his class) he did retain enough knowledge to know that the sword styles from those teachings worked well with lightsabers. His indifference came with a price. Had he trained more diligently, he would not have numbed his arms, his legs, or his stomach while trying to use the short training sabers. Dashel did not even try the full sized training saber or the one from the old master. Too dangerous. His nerves calmed, and curiousity satisfied, he went back to his bunk and looked over the items he had prepared for himself. To the usual gear he had packed, he added general purpose cutting tools as well as some specialized rock cutting tools. As for weapons, he decided that the old lightsaber, along with his two matched blasters and his ankle strapped hold out blaster would be enough. Dashel inventoried his gear, finally satisfied that he had prepared as muich as he could, once again keyed the intercom, "Sahv, I am going to the room where you found Master Neo's holocron. Since I have finished preparing as much as I can before Ilum, I think I will meditate some on our journey and see what I can learn. If you want, please join me."
  14. <> <> Dashel turned to his fellow Padawan. "Ti is short for Tiy'lu'frin, and its meaning doesn't translate very well, but essentially it means Claw Prints filled with Water in the old temple language of my people. It is a YT-2451 light corvette, a variant model of the YT-2400 freighter. Basically licensed by Corellia to be produced at my people's shipyards and specialized for sublight intercepts. Eventually, I want to improve the hyperdrive and a modify and upgrade a couple of other systems that definately need improving" "I am a Triani, our homeworld is Trian, but I was born on the penal colony of Exiau three to a pair of minor nobles whom were really minor functionaries in the governors court there. Our only major enemies that far our where the Corporate Sector Authority, or they were until we set our first shuttle down onto Siao III, intent on creating a new colony there." "The priestess whom stepped out to give the ritual blessing was immediately attacked by 2 meter tall, snarling menace. Any who came to help were also cut down but what we thought was an indigenous predator. Later expeditions would capture one of these and routine DNA testing confirmed what had become popular rumor just from videos of the things. The pack predators where Triani, but far more savage than even our worst criminals. In fact, there DNA had turned out to be somehow retrogated yet there was something more. In the centuries since then, no other evidence has been found to say what altered those Triani." "When word got about this planet, other peoples came to Siao III, intending to hunt our fallen brethren. My people's military, in combination with the priestesshood, created a special unit, the Rangers, to serve as guides on Siao III and patrol both on the planet and in space in small squads nimble enough to stop intruders yet with enough firepower to defend against all but major threats. It is considered a honor to be invited to serve there, as it means additional training in the ancient religion and martial arts of our people. I had been out of training for about a year when while examining this lightsaber and that holocron at the invitation of an archeologist, the holocron activated and named me Jedi. Two days later the Ti was given to me and I was sent to the Jedi temple." "As for my life before becoming a ranger? Well, that was simple. I enlisted at eighteen, and by 25 I had been invited to join the rangers." "The astromech is an R3 unit. Quite old, its been in my family for at least three generations since it was given to a grandfather for his heroics in his starfighter during the last major conflict witht he CSA. Its never had its memory erased in that time. Truth be told, I am not sure what I would do without it now. Its has abilities I am sitll finding out about." "Which reminds me, it downloaded some information about Ilum for me before we left. Seems we are headed to the planet where Jedi padawans pick out the crystals that they eventually get to put into the first lightsabers they construct on their own. Its one of several open worlds used for that purpose, with other being more clandestine. The Sith of course, use crystals from different sources. R3 noted that those planets were in the encrypted section of the temple records and he would not access those without asking permission. " Dashel finally growled out, "From my brief acquaintance with Master Neo, he pushes hard, but isnot this a little fast?" "Enough about me. What of yourself?"
  15. Dashel smiled, carefully keeping his canines covered to convey amusement at the remark about Master Neo's meditation habits. "Sahv, my Nav droid has additional information on Ilum. I will order him to transer it to Master Neo's ship. I will have R3 take the Ti to the temple at Coruscant or whatever place we will be meeting with Master Neo next." He paused for a moment, considering what little he knew about the Jedi, then asked, "Since Master Neo mentioned that the crystal we are to find is to be a metaphor for our heart and soul as Jedi should we seek guidance from the force? Perhaps together we can learn enough to find what we are to seek and where we are to seek it." Dashel gathered the lightsaber and holocron the master had seemingly forgotten. The lightsaber he kept while putting the holocron back on his YT-2450. Once he was safely aboard Master Neo's ship, he sent the Ti away on autopilot towards the Jedi temple, suprised at the sophistication the systems had revealed. That had not been there before. R3 had been performing modicfication above and beyond his normal sphere. It was starting to bother him, and he sincerely thought about a memory wipe for the little droid. He shrugged it off and went on. Nothing that the little droid had done so far had harmed anyone.
  16. Dashel acknowledged the compliment. A hypothesis formed in hid mind, and he acted upon it. He focused on the water and attempted to scoop a bit out to wash himself with using the force. He reached out with his thoughts and trusted that the force would be there. The force was there but it behaved erratically once more. Or rather, it behaved erratically by Dashel's imperfect understanding. He felt himself flung backward, landing in an undignified position in patch of mud farther away from the lake. He saw a flash of someone else's memory, except this time it was of an old jedi master admonishing a padawan learner. A learner whom would one day wield the lightsaber he had found in the swamps. In his vision, Dashel heard the old master say, ”œBeing able to use the force in any manner is a privilege granted to but a few. You should practice with it, build up your knowledge, and use it only when and if you need to. Never should you rely on it to the detriment of your other skills. Doing so means that you possess it and the force cannot be possessed. Besides, possession leads to jealousy which leads to hate which leads to the darkside.”
  17. Dashel is a Triani, think of a gray and white Cathar, of slightly smaller build with a matriarchal society and a prehensile tale. Never let someone else build your character for you. Dashel studied the human in front of him. He felt an odd tendril of awareness of the other's presence, a residual result of the link they had just been a part of. As a result, Dashel knew the man in front of him had meant no insult. Not that it mattered after today events. He was determined to be Jedi. As a result, Dashel was quite aware of his fellow padawan's fears when the master struck. He felt the intrusion of his master's mind and felt it feeding on the fears which even now battered at his awareness of the force. The connection flickered, then held, and in doing so reassured Dashel that it would always be there. He smiled for in that awareness and in it found an a way to remove his master's probe. Dashel created a barrier to deflect his master's probe and concentrated on keeping it away from his mind. Straining, he reached out to the force, seeking to touch all the minds he could find. He gathered their surface thoughts to his, and created a false image of those thoughs in his own mind in place of the fears his master was feeding on. Then he confronted his fears. From the place of serentity that he reached while under the constant bombardment, he acknowleged that he had given them power by letting them exert too much control over his life. Fear was good, for it provided neccessary warnings in times of danger but unwittingly he had somehow lost the battle to keep them in place. he confronted this knowledge, learned from it, and won, yet knowing that fear would always be there, waiting, lurking to strike at him.
  18. Not knowing how else to reply to his new master, Dashel fell back on his training. He came to attention, saluted his master, and handed over the bag containing the old lightsaber and holocron. Once his new master had taken the item, he quietly went over next to the indicated apprentice, appraised the situation and hoped he understood what it was the fellow was doing. Dashel, not knowing exactly what he was doing, closed his eyes and settled into that place where he had experienced the force before. To his suprise, he found it quickly. Somehow, he knew it would not always be this easy and he had a moment to briefly wonder how he could improve his connection. The brief moment passed and Dashel was overwhelmed by the strength and speed of his connection, and found himself being prompted to let the force flow through him and into the hands of his fellow apprentice. He was swept along the in tide and once again he began to see the images of his homeworld. This time, however the flow was to quick for him to remember more than a few scattered fragments. When he quit struggling to remember and settled back, his awareness of the force increased, and he felt the additional surge in the stream he was providing to his fellow apprentice.
  19. <> sorry I didn't return your invite earlier Neo. If you will still accept the character, I would like to apprentice. <> The Ti trasitioned smoothly into realspace. Su'lyn set the landing coordinates to those specified in the missive he had recieved. "R3, keep the ship prepped for immediate takeoff. I honestly don't know if the transmission was even meant for me or even if this knight will find me acceptable. We may be heading back to Coruscant almost immediately. I will let you know should the situation change." Landing the ship was far less challenging than at the jedi temple. The repairs made on Coruscant had actually improved the ship's handling a little bit. He wandering if he would be adding a slam system to his ship would happen anytime soon. All his research indicated that being a padawan mean living the experience. In his mind he would be staring his basic training all over again. He shuddered. Jedi surely would not be the same as the DI whose sole job at the time seemed to have consisted of making his life as miserable as possible. From his ship he took nothing, save his holdout blaster, the old lightsaber, and the holocron that had set him on this path and sat down to wait for the knight to let him know what his fate was to be. He assumed a resting stance from his temple days, and proceeded to begin a series of mental exercises to clear the mind.

Siao III, one of four habitable planets in the system, was the site of the first fatality in the infant stages of the species colonizing efforts. A priestess was immediately attacked, drug off and eaten by a pack of what would later be determined to be non-sentient Triani. The colonial authority immediately slapped a ban on the world and created a joint military / religous group known simply as Rangers whose job was to enforce the embargo on both the ground and in the skies of Siao III and guide those members of the scientific community with legitimate authority to explore the planet. Sul'lyn enlisted at 18. By 25, he had recieved an invitation to join the training program of the Rangers. His final test was to drop him and six others off at point that was approximately a month away from the nearest outpost. They had to erect and maintain an outpost of their own for as long as it took a relief group to walk there. The relief group arrived early but three members short with new orders for the trainees. A set of ruins had been discovered by the arriving team on their walk there. A researcher had stayed behind with a pair of rangers to investigate the ruins. The trainees were to gather any items the researcher deemed relevant and return them to the outpost she designated. The trainees walked to the ruins, surviving off the land and avoiding contact with the degenerated Triani. They found the resercher and rangers alive, but overburdened with new items that had to make it to the outpost. The group loaded their packs and returned to the outpost. Enroute there, they often examined an item around the fire, trying to guess what purpose had been served. Two items caught everyone's attention. Both had been together in a small hut on the outskirts of the ruins. One was a lightsaber, easily recognizable despite the governments independence. The other was an object powered by a long duration source but with no discernible mechanism for operating it. When Lyn'lyn touched it, he felt of surge of power flowing from his hands to the object. A figure emerged from the top, saying simply, "Greetings Jedi, I am the guardian of this gate. How may I help you." When they returned to the outpost, and their superiors were acquainted with the facts, Lyn was sent to Coruscant as a full ranger, bearing the holocron and a quest to find a master. All his possessions, save a the slugthrower, his twin swords and his clothes (not including armor) were to be given as gifts to the jedi order excluding his ship. That was to be given to his master for disposal as the master wished. Early in his career as a Jedi, Dashel was recalled to Trian to answer questions about his progress as a Jedi. A faction of Triani priestesses decided Dashel was to forgo further training as a Jedi and incarcerated him. He was freed by Kala whom R3 had built on Coruscant for purposes that only it knew. The orginal coding for Kala was tohave begun hunting any and all jedi she came across. R3 overrode his own programming to program Kala to protect and serve Dashel. Soon after being knighted for the First time, Dashel underwent a near total memory loss. He remembers his old master, Skye Organa, a few close associates and littlle else about his life. Kala, ever loyal, found him and acquired for him a personal shuttle craft that went more closely with his new found austereness. One suprise awaited him, the saber-claws which he had constructed with so much painstaking effort had bonded with his body and in place of his natural ones.
