The Rebellion now had a presence 6x that of the Imperials. The only troopers left on Artus were 6 squads of Stormtroopers and 2 Venom Troopers. The two Venom troopers had set up explosives near the weakest section of the tuneel. Anyone tried to get in and 5 claymore mines would explode in their face. After that 6 squads worth of blaster fire would meet the incoming forces. Thw two Venoms now had the task of sniping off any stray troopers.

The Venoms had constructed a series of pop hatches where they could easily pick off troopers. They had set up E-Webs and light repeating cannons at these stations.

"We have a squad coming toward us."

"We have to play this one sneaky. Open from hatch 4, fire 2 shots, drop back down, head to hatch 2. fire 3 shots, drop down and head to hatc6, stay there and fire the E-web into the middle of the squad. I am heading to hatch 1 for the E-Web as well. Be ready, when I open fire, open fore with the cannon."

Venom 1 had never been in this kind of situation. He had always been the offensive attacker, defense was a whole new ball game to him. but he would do what he was told. He knew their survival counted on him. but he also knew the whole Rebellion fleet was above the planet. They could not hold out against that kind of fire power. He finds his station at hatch 4, and awaits. Once the firing started, his training would take over and he would do fine. Speaking of firing.

He lifts his hatchg upon the first fire of his partners E-web and fires two shots of his light cannon. He also throws a grenade into the middle,. Two troopers down, and one lost a leg.He drops back down after closing the hatch. His training had taken over, his job was to kill in a tactial efficeiency. He heads into hatch 2 and pops it open. A bolt lances next to him but his instincts cause him to fire 3 shots into the squad, taking out 3 troopers. As he starts to drop back down, a bolt catches him in his chest. His life seemed to drain away from him, he had forgotten about the energy shield built into the armor. It had saved his life for the first time this day. The trooper rights himself and he heads to hatch 6. This was the seconed hyatch with an E-Web, it gave a good range away from the main entrance, while keeping it within lethal distance of the weapon. He opened fire with the laser cannon, pinning the squad between Venon 1 and 2. Within minutes the sqaud was dead. Both Venoms dropped into the tunnels again locking their hatches closed. They conjugate in a central area and await the next attack.

We are the Body.

"First Squad's been hit, First Squad's been wiped out!" As the newly-made C.O. of his platoon in the wake of his officer's death, the veteran sergeant was busy organizing a defense against the Imperials as they continued to pop up out of their spider holes. "Skipjacks, I need a bomb run at the following co-ordinates--grid reference C-21 through D-27! See if you can put a few missiles down that tunnel while you're at it!"

As the first platoon of Marines on the surface drew a withering hail of fire from the defending Imperial troopers, the rest of the First Battallion ran from cover to cover, making their way towards the base entrance tunnel with minnimal casualties. The assault shuttle opened up with its weapons, pointing out where the Imperial fire was coming from for the passing Skipray Blastboats as they dropped proton torpedoes along the line where the Venoms and their Stormtrooper sidekicks were stationed. Several concusion missiles made their way down through the tunnel, and the resulting explosions detonated the claymores along with many of the remaining stormtroopers holed up inside.

After about five minutes, everyone had recovered from the barrage enough to resume the battle. With the old sergeant in the lead, yelling "Forward, Forward!" at the top of his voice, a company of Marines spearheaded the charge down the tunnel, quickly clearing out the remaining Imperial soldiers. The one surviving Venom trooper attempted to hold off more of the advancing Marines, but he was quickly cut down by a grenade to the face from an enraged Rebel corporal who had seen his buddies cut down in the assault. Within half an hour, the stormtroopers were all accounted for, and the base had been breached; the Rebel soldiers poured through the underground complex, searching for anything useful, including documents, intelligence reports, computer information terminals, and any other things that might point to what the Empire was planning in other areas.

Eventually, more Marines were landed, joined by technicians and officers from the Rebel fleet. The fleet personnel were tasked with setting up the Alliance presence on Artus; a new base would have to be built, the mines would have to be regulated and the mine workers provided for, and defenses would have to be planned for and established. For all intents and purposes, Artus was and would remain firmly in Rebellion hands.

-------------------------

Aboard the Solemn Vow, Vice-Admiral Forn Dodonna watched from her command bridge as the battle unfolded and was closed. Her face was an expressionless mask as the casualty reports were processed and reinforcements were landed to set up the new base. The factory world of Sullust would be getting another order very soon, she knew, and the cortosis ore this planet held within would help to pay for it.

As she watched, Renn Hamis and his droid entered the bridge. The five-armed metal cyclops was gazing intently at Forn as his living partner was staring out of the starboard viewport at the planet below. As she stared back at the droid, she remembered her old HD-56 unit, no doubt melted into slag by now, and suppressed a sigh. She needed a partner, now more then ever.

The comm from Admiral Sunrider jarred her from her reverie, however. The destruction of the Imperial fleet had opened the way to Coruscant, and the Alliance was going to take this opportunity to finally liberate the Galactic capital, and ring the death knell of the Empire. But this world could not be abandoned completely. She turned back to her Comms officer.

"Lieutenant, send word to General Chamberlin to leave a Regiment of Marines with their equipment on Artus. The rest are to report back to the Fleet, we're moving out for Coruscant! Ops, gather the starfighters, and send word to the fleet to set course out of the gravity well; we'll make the jump in one hour." She turned back to Renn. "Remain with me here, Mr. Hamis, when we get to the capital, I want you to take charge of the Skipjacks."

"Acknowledged," Ops replied

"As ordered, Admiral," Comms said.

In space, the assault shuttles not detailed to remain on Artus made their way back to the capital ships that had spawned them. The E-wings and Skipjacks landed in their respective hanger decks, and the fleet formed up to make the jump to hyperspace. In the many hours after the initial fleet battle, the various damage-control crews and technicians now had the starfleet running at near-full capacity. Time was of the essence, so no thought was put in to going back to Hypori to restock and refit. With the Imperials no longer a factor, this small leeway could be accepted without too much concern...

An hour later, everything was set.

Renn resisted the urge to grin like a little kid. So they were going for Coruscant... It only made sense, since the Imperial Navy would need time to recover after a defeat like this. Renn was ready, there was no doubt about that. The Warwitch had been fully re-armed after Artus. With the mess onboard cleaned up, she had never seen better days.

Still, the prospect of leading 29 pilots, all battle-hardened as himself, seemed a bit daunting. Time to think like a soldier and an officer, Renn, not like a bounty hunter.

On the surface of Artus, the First Marine Regiment completed their landing operations, and began to take over the underground Imperial base, ripping out anything that wasn't nailed down and not of use to the new Rebel occupation force. The unit's commanding officer, a brigadier general named Sunderland, was anxious to get the new defenses operational. Several of the Imperial emplacements, untouched by the bombardment, were appropriated to serve in the defense of the world now liberated, moved from their positions to provide better, concentrated coverage for the base being rebuilt and refurbished. An order was also placed with the SorroSuub factories on Sullust for several more emplacements, two Golan II platforms, and several squadrons of starfighters, including one of Skipray Blastboats.

Once the base was seen to, the former Imperial hangers were repaired and enlarged to accompany the increased Rebel Alliance starfighter presence. Forn was fully expecting someone to make a move on the planet once the Alliance fleet departed, and therefore she had mandated that the world should be able to a much better job of protecting itself long enough for the fleet to arrive to relieve whatever threat had manifested itself.

The mine workers, since the Rebellion had little need for cortosis at this time, were given time off, both to seek medical attention for whatever the harsh conditions of the mines had done to their bodies, and to actually see the sun and to realize the fact that they were sentient beings, not slaves. The workers would be unionized, and would be free to leave the world at any time to pursue whatever they wished. This was yet another step in the restoration of freedom and justice to the Galaxy, and everyone knew it.

--------------------------

In space, the gathered Alliance armada was ready to depart the system. Forn, standing alongside her friend Renn and his droid, gave the order to depart.

"Ops, send the Freedom's Reprieve back to Selvaris to pick up Admiral Sunrider. Have the rest of the ships jump into hyperspace, we'll come out alongside the Covey asteroid field until we get the word to go in. Let's move, people!"

The many ships and transports then streaked off into hyperspace, taking roundabout routes to their respective destinations.

Disguised quite effectively as a harmless meteorite as it enters the atmosphere, the probe droid begins its assignment and impacts upon the surface of the planet, extracting itself to provide ample reconnaissance without further detection due to its small size. From a specially-tuned antenna, it begins to send out trace bursts of information to be piggybacked on local HoloNet transmissions. It bears no markings of any kind, and is equipped to handle all terrain, even underwater.

  • 4 weeks later...

Five heavily armed and armored transports, the hulls of each sporting a massive Imperial insignia, emerge out of hyperspace. On the bridge of the lead transport stands a towering alien, a member of the Bothan species, clad in a black uniform. His fur standing on end, Commander Bifrons watches as the planet of Artus appears to grow larger as the transports draw ever closer. With their shields set to full power, and their weapons powered and at the ready, the five transports enter the planet's atmosphere.

A few moments pass before Bifrons turns to a small view-screen to his right, where a specific area of the planet was mapped out ”“ targets were marked in red. Bifrons sneers. As the transports near the main target, Bifrons sends out an encrypted message to Bile ”“ the leader of an underground rebellion brewing on Artus.

"The time to act is now. For the Empire."

Within the massive holds of each of the heavily armed and armored transports, stand two hundred equally armed and armored Imperial Stormtroopers. All of the troopers are armed with heavy repeating blaster rifles, concussion grenades, and backup blaster pistols ”“ all, that is, except for a special few, who just happen to be armed with a variety of more exotic weapons.

Bifrons barks a series of orders at the crew of the lead transport as the massive ship leads the other transports towards the main target. Moments later, dozens of large pods, each carrying a number of Imperial Stormtroopers, begin to drop down from the various transports...

"General Sunderland, we've got enemy transports on our scopes! They're making for the surface!"

It had been a while since the liberation of Artus, and in keeping with the former Vice-Admiral's anticipation of an Imperial counterattack here, the mining world's defenses had been augmented by quite a lot in the interveining period. The general in command of the First Marine Division, therefore, was not totally surprised to hear that the Empire had at last made their move. With the determined calm of a seasoned commander, he began to bark orders for the planet's defense.

"Seal all mineshafts! Arm and alert all surface battaries and the Golan defense platform! Get the starfighters airborne, and alert the fleet! Deploy the regiment! We've got to hold them off..."

In the back of his mind, General Sunderland was slightly worried, though he never showed this. Ordinarily, a number of capital ships would be sent to support a landing operation such as this, and their rather conspicuous absence was grating on him somewhat. But he had a job to do nonetheless, so he carried it out with his usual skill.

"Belay my last," he said before the messanger had left. "Deploy the First Battalion, have them take up positions in the high ground surrounding the base entrance. Second and Third Battalions will be held in reserve in the rear hidden areas!" With his orders sent out, the general was off to the command center to watch as the battle unfolded. The heavily encrypted comm to the rest of the fleet was also sent out, giving estimates on the strength of the enemy forces as well as alerting them to the attack.

On the surface of Artus, many solid blast doors clanged shut, effectively sealing the mines so that no Imperials could land there and take refuge. As this was happening, the eight hundred highly-trained and well-armed Marines of First Battalion were taking up prime defensive positions, swiftly setting up their specialized heavy weapons as they did so. They were ready for anything...

Meanwhile, the four squadrons of state-of-the-art E-wings assigned to Artus took off swiftly, heading for the Imperial transports as they attempted to land their cargo.

"Red One to group," the lead pilot said over the encrypted comm channel. "Imperial transports in sight. Lock into attack position, raise shields, and fire at will!"

"Acknowledged!"

Just as the Golan II in space began to open up on the transport nearest to it, the four squadrons of Rebel starfighters streaked towards their targets, unleashing a hail of blasterfire and proton torpedoes at each one as they flew in. Heavily shielded and armored they may be, but transports they were, and against this kind of resistance they would not last long at all...

"Blue Six to Red One, I see pods! They're conducting their drop!"

((I'm afraid you don't have those defenses, Goodwood ”“ you posted ordering them from Sullust, but never posted them being sent from Sullust, or indeed arriving here. Nice try.))

Commander Bifrons grips the railing before him as the Imperial transports come under attack by Rebel ships. Fur standing on end, Bifrons angrily barks a series of orders at the lead transport's crew around him.

"Send out a message to Imperial One, at once!"

"I want all available power ran through to our deflector shields!"

"And I want their actions documented, and the feed streamed to Imperial One! And get me the Rebels on-line at once!"

Technicians aboard the lead transport begin to transmit a highly encrypted video feed of what was developing to several different locations. As the feed is sent out, Bifrons hails the Rebels.

"This is Imperial Commander Bifrons ”“ I command you to cease all hostilities at once! We have come in peace!"

Several of the pods reach the surface ”“ nothing happens.

OOC: I'm taking over the defense of Artus in Chris' absence.

IC: General Sunderland raised his eyebrows slightly. He didn't really want to believe that their intentions were truly peaceful, but that would explain the lack of a fleet to escort the transports.

Reluctantly, he ordered the fighters to break off and the transports to be allowed safe passage. He still didn't like it, however, so he did not have the ships return to their hangars, and he told the troops to remain at their defensive positions, though not to attack.

He then sent a comm up to the Imperial transports. "Imperial transports, state your cargo and intentions."

The General furrowed his eyebrows. He spoke once more into the comm, "Consider your words marked. Good luck." Sunderland made the motion to cut off the communication and smiled, sitting back down.

"All airborn starfighters, open fire upon the transports," he ordered. As he watched, a squadron of E-wings made a pass over one of the transports, unloading a volley of proton torpedoes while receiving return fire that destroyed three of them. Losses in this case were acceptable, however. The projectiles slammed into the side of the craft and detenated, tearing through the shields and hull.

"Order the second battalion to move between the first and the third. We'll have three waves for the incoming stormtroopers to get through...and we'll have the defensive advantage," he continued.

Sunderland sat back and watched his starfighters swarm over the enemy forces, who were without capital ship support. Their own turbolasers were quite sufficient, however, and more losses began to occur. He just needed them to take down as many stormtrooper-loaded transports as they could.

Unfortunately for the enemy ”“ Sunderland, and his gangs of terrorist scum ”“ the heavily armed and armored Imperial transports were now well over the main compound; allowing the transports safe travel for even that relatively short amount of time would be the last mistake Sunderland ever made. As more pods fall from the transports, Commander Bifrons gives the order to jam the enemy's communications. With that, the transports open fire ”“ guided rockets, similar in function to the weapon Jango Fett used against Jedi Knight Obi-Wan Kenobi's fighter generations before, lance out towards the waves of enemy E-wing fighters. As the guided rockets wipe out fighter after fighter, Bifrons orders that the shields of each transport be afforded all available extra power.

Meanwhile, down below, an army of freedom fighters, headed by the mysterious Artus citizen Bile, rush the main compound, armed with old Imperial blasters found at an abandoned Imperial warehouse up north. The freedom fighters, after having trained for months, were excellent shots ”“ they were going to take back their planet, for the glory of the Empire. A rain of fire comes upon the enemy's battalions.

More and more pods drop.

Units of Imperial Stormtroopers, some of the Emperor's finest, move out of the pods that had already landed. Armed to the teeth, these deadly soldiers move towards both the main compound, and several of the smaller ones ”“ seeing the havoc above, some fire their Merr-Sonn PLX series missile launchers up into the sky; the homing missiles make short work of the enemy's E-wings. A few homing missiles are also fired into the ranks of the enemy's soldiers ”“ battalions 1, 2, and 3.

Sunderland smiled tightly. Did the Empire really think they could win on Alliance turf? The General had 2400 marines here to defend the base, each one more than capable of handling Imperial Stormtroopers. Even with the resistance from the civilians, everything would be in order soon enough.

He called the retreat of the starfighter forces...there was little good they could do out there agaist the Empire's homing missiles. Before any more losses were taken, the E-wings and support craft fell into a retreat, their superior speed protecting them.

Defensive stationary turrets opened fire as the tranports came into range, firing large rockets and heavy laser cannons into the oncoming waves. Sunderland ordered six more battalions up to the front lines to face the incoming stormtroopers and shoot down the pods.

The Marines were well-armed and trained, commanders weilding flechette launchers that tore into enemy lines and killed multiple stormtroopers despite their plasteel armor.

Macleod's forces emerged from hyperspace, over Artus. He could feel the heat of battle below. Without wasting any time, Macleod prepared the two groups of Defenders and Fighters, each about ten squadrons strong. He barked a few last minute orders as he entered his own Defender. It was very uncommon for a Colonel to command fighters while in one himself, but Macleod didn't feel comfortable watching things from some Destroyer or transport ship. He had to be in the thick of the battle to truly get a feel for what was going on. The Colonel had engineered the Defender's tactical displays to a much more superior level than normal Defenders, that way he wasn't losing the technological advantage of commanding from a distance. Macleod spoke to his men over their private comm channel,

"Most of you have been with me through four Emperors, at least two battles with the Rebels, and uncalculable Jedi engagements. Let's just do what we did there, and these guys won't know what hit them."

The fighters and Defenders poured from the ship, spreading out under Macleod's orders. Half the Defender forces remained in space, to prevent the enemy from escaping. Macleod continued on with the other half of the Defenders and the fighters. They all closed in to back up the transports, the smaller craft being much faster. The Defenders hung back, as the fighters pushed into a frontal attack, pursuing the escaping support craft. There was little chance the turrets were going to be able to take down those small TIE's. Macleod opened up the comm to the transports.

"We're here to back you up. If you have any specific orders for us speak now."

The transports wouldn't hold up long against those rockets, so while he waited, the Colonel ordered the Defenders to open up their warhead launchers against the defense turrets.

Using guerrilla tactics, the band of freedom fighters headed by Bile continue to attack and run, attack and run, attack and run ”“ each unit taking up a new position, a perch, from where the enemy's ground forces could be fired upon. As that happens, the Imperial Stormtroopers continue their assault ”“ some also finding cover. Some, like junior officer Craye ”“ a young man with a heart of pride, and a mind steadfastly loyal to his Empire. The Force blocked the signature of the being that entered the system next. A strange ship flew into mist of the battle. It appeared as though the Imperials were shooting at this unknown ship. It was hit, and it began to hurtle to the ground. It crashed and pushed layers of dirt away from the ground. A man pulled himself out of the cockpit. He looked up: it was Talus.

He picked up a blaster from the ground and ran to the Marines. "Marines, who is in charge, and how can I get to him or her? I want to try and help, but fighting out here is not my forte. I'm an old Admiral of the Alliance and I used to lead. It is of the utmost importance that I contact Sunrider or Sunderland."

OOC: I don't want to get nasty, but there's no way you could have wiped out the entire fifth battalion in a single post.

IC: General Sunderland sighed. The Imperial reinforcements had arrived--more fighters. "Launch secondary wave of fighters," he said with a bit of resignation. He had meant to keep them for later, but now he was forced into action.

The second compliment of E-wings launched and provided cover for those retreating, who either returned to base for repairs or pulled a one-eighty and returned to the thick of the battle. They began firing proton torpedoes devestatingly into the waves of TIE Defenders, whose shields were incapable of handling the projectiles and were immediately destroyed by them.

Marines were equipped with Missile launchers of their own in the base and sent out in battalions, the seventh and eighth moving out while the ninth through twenty-fourth remained defensively around the command base. The freshly-armed Marines moved into the front lines, their rockets tearing down enemy fighters and tearing up the ground to kill dozens of stormtroopers.

Meanwhile, a group of Marines were confronted by Talus Kyeian. The captain among them responded in a slight accent and a hardened voice the common result of seeing many battles and men die before him. "We follow General Sunderland. Admiral Sunrider is on Coruscant. He's back in the command base," he pointed. "That way."

Above the superior E-wings continued to win engagements with the TIE Defenders despite their shielding improvements over other TIE models. The E-wings were designed to be reliable and absorb incredible amounts of damage, while dishing out a load of firepower themselves, armed with triple-linked heavy laser cannons complimented by a torpedo launcher with a large magazine of sixteen torpedoes.

He nodded, "Thanks, keep up the good work. Mow those imps down!"

He began to fall back toward Sunderland's direction, dropping one or two imps himself as he fired at them to keep them off his back.

Jumping down from a rise in the ground, he turned and ran full sprint for the command base. He reached the door and the door pulled wide open. He got inside, and a soldier operating the door recognized him, "Mr. Kyeian! Sir, what are you doing out there?"

"I need to get urgent information to General Sunderland."

The soldier pointed him in the right direction.

He ran in the direction as fast as possible, and ran into the room with Sunderland, "General, I have some news that is of the utmost importance!"

"Fall back! Fall back!"

Both the Imperial Stormtroopers and freedom fighters begin to retreat, firing their weapons as they do, of course. At the same time, the heavily armed and armored transports concentrate their fire-power on the incoming enemy fighters; like before, the transports use their guided rockets, however, they now also let loose with their turbo-laser batteries. Fight after fighter is destroyed.

Macleod watched the second wave begin destroying the Defenders around him. A barrage of proton torpedoes flew straight toward his ship. But the Force was with Macleod this day, and he sensed them coming, pulling into a somersault as they torpedoes flew by. He blasted the torpedoes with his laser cannon.

The E-wings had made a critical error in ignoring the TIE fighters that had been at the front of the assault. They let them go straight by, and the fighters began pounding the compound and battalion. The small fighters weren't well shielded, but they were quick, much too fast for the few defense turrets that remained to get a hold of.

Macleod ordered half the TIE Defenders in the atmosphere to replenish his group. He circumvented the E-wings being torn apart by the transports. Half of each squadron formed into a V formation.

"Attack pattern Alpha."

The formations spread out concentrating their warheads together, multiplying the explosions five times more than normal. With the combined assault from the TIE fighters, and Defenders, the compound and battalion was being wiped out.

OOC:

The E-wings had made a critical error in ignoring the TIE fighters that had been at the front of the assault. They let them go straight by, and the fighters began pounding the compound and battalion.

Where'd you get that? Oh, well.

IC: Sunderland frowned as a few of the TIEs got through the line of E-wings and began to pound at the base's armor. He called for the launch of another two squadrons to intercept them and defend the base. They were far more maneuverable in the atmosphere than the TIEs were, as the enemy ships' solar wings decreased their maneuverability in the air.

The turbolaser cannons and laser cannons on the ground also began to take out some of the TIEs, as well as those of the seventh and eighth battalions that were still back far enough to lock onto them with their homing missiles.

But the majority of the two hundred rocket-armed troopers were concentrating fire on the transports. They fired missile after missile as fast as they could reload, and they brought down another one, which crashed into a group of retreating stormtroopers and exploded.

The ground troops that weren't armed with rockets were pursuing the enemy to a certain extent--the General didn't want them getting too far from base. He ordered that battalions nine and ten move out to help even out the thickness of the troop mass.

At the same time, Sunderland ordered that the troopers space themselves out into a staggered formation, greatly reducing the amount of damage a single homing missile could inflict. With a decreased threat from that, it would give the missile users and E-wings more time to bring the transports down.

Another transport erupted into flame as a squadron of snubfighters broke through its armor with a volley of proton torpedoes.

Meanwhile Talus Kyeian approached the General and spoke. "Then let's hear it!" Sunderland answered.

Macleod pulled out the remaining TIE's he'd set onto the base. Their lasers were pretty much useless their anyway. Out of the ten squadrons he'd unleashed, they'd only lost at most three, still far outnumbering the two the base had just released. The TIE's engaged the fighters. They were outmaneuvered, but the enemy fighters were grossly outnumbered. Soon the superior numbers and training of the fighters began to win the day.

Meanwhile Macleod had to make a judgement call.

The Defenders are working well against the base, but those transports are going to be down soon if we don't do something.

Deciding the transports were top priority, Macleod ordered the Defenders to reform into the five fighter roughly eight squadron V formations.

"Raze the ground, I don't care how spread out they are, hit those troops with every warhead you've got."

The Defenders screamed overhead as they followed his orders, heading to the back of the enemy's lines. Feeling the Force flow through him, Macleod lead the attack, guiding two of his own warheads into the troops below. The smoke and dust sent up by the attack enveloped their troops, impairing their ability to retaliate against the Defenders. Fortunately for the Imperials, they didn't need to worry about accuracy. Most of the Defenders did not even bother trying to aim, and just bombarded the surface in a systematic, efficient, and very Imperial like manner. Macleod was proud.

OOC: I'm not sure exactly how many fighters I have, but I assume its a lot.

IC: Sunderland's attention was focused entirely on the battle. He barely even caught Kyeian's words, but he looked at him and nodded. The General led the way into his ready room, where he asked not to be disturbed for a few minutes.

A certain Captain Lyndern took over. He had a few changes to make on the General's tactics. First, he ordered the launch of five more squadrons of fighters, almost everything the Alliance had here. They should be enough to battle the TIE Defenders. Their arrival also boosted the morals of the rest of the fighters, who were regrouping in light of the Empire's minor retreat.

They would be sufficient.

Currently Lyndern also ordered the retreat of the troops back to within range of the defensive turrets. The base wouldn't take any damage until the transports were within range of the turrets, and no more casualties would be taken before then. And while the TIEs could evade the defensive turbolasers, the shuttles couldn't.

The Empire wouldn't last forever, and Lyndern was quite ready to exploit that time extent. He smiled cockily, waiting for the Empire to pull something else out of their hat.

Talus walked into the room with Sunderland.

"I don't know if you have been made aware of this or not, but Flash Taxso was captured. He was going to escort a Jedi embassy to Coruscant for the new government, so that the Jedi Order could assure their peace keeping position in the new governement, due to the growing mistrust in them. Flash was led to believe that he was picking up several Jedi, including Jedi Master Gantoris. Apparently, Flash had not gained word of Gantoris's defection to the darkside, and took the bait hook line and sinker. He was ambushed by Gantoris and a detachement of SEED. I tried to send a transmission to you, but the imperial ships have blocked any messages that I have tried to send out. Flash only returning to the scene, as have I, wasn't able to keep up with what had transpired in our absences. He was sent to an Imperial ship yard, Kuat, and is now under guard of Imperial agents. I tried to send transmissions here for a few weeks, but for some reason, you never responded."

He turned away from Sunderland, but faced him again to finish what he had to say, "I found out through my intelligence spies. I also found something else out, and I haven't been able to tell Kirana about either of these events. I'm afraid that Geki of SEED was nominated to become Chancellor, as well as the Emperor. There was a Jedi, Dhan-Jaroe, I believe, trying to purge Geki from the Senate, but he was assasinated. My intelligence points to someone within the Rebellion."

Talus went to walk off, but he turned back around and punched Sunderland in the face, "That's for Taxso! If you would have responded to my messages, we could have helped him!"

Sunderland stumbled back from the blow, but didn't fight back. It was disturbing that such a trustworthy pilot was captured and in the hands of the enemy, but there was only a little he could do about it. "I assure you, I did not receive any such transmissions," he said, his voice made strange by his bleeding nose.

He stood up and left the room, ignoring the blood on his face. He entered the command room again, taking back command from the Captain he left in charge. The Captain was alarmed by the blood, but didn't say anything looking upon the General's stony features.

Sunderland looked at the Captain. "Send a message to the Admiral concerning certain activities of SEED involving Flash Taxso. I'm not sure if the Admiral's heard of it yet, but regardless the information must be made known."

The General then turned back to the battle playing out before him.

OOC: You must pay more attention to details.

He smiled. "Well, well, well. This was easier then I thought it would be, actually."

He walked into the room with Sunderland, "Sorry about hitting you, I didn't know you didn't recieve the messages."

There was a strange woosh noise in the room, and the Captain gasped quietly. He reached for the collar of his shirt and pulled at it a bit.

Sunderland may have asked the Captain what was wrong, were he given a chance. There was another sound that filled the room.

SNAP-HISS

The blood from Sunderland's nose was now accompanied by blood from his abdomen. There was a red lightsaber blade in his stomach, and hit several vital organs when it went in.

The Captain fell to his knees, losing proper oxygen to stay conscious. The lightsaber was pulled from Sunderland and he was whipped around so that he could look at Talus.

Only it was not Talus, it was someone else. "Shapeshifters are a b****, aren't they?" Cineon said with an evil grin. "Did you really think you could take this planet from Imperial control? The Emperor is most displeased with your arrogance in this matter." Cineon Force pushed Sunderland so that he was embedded into a control pannel. He swung at the Captain and cut him in half. Releasing his grip on the Captain, Cineon quickly locked all the doors. He spun the lightsaber in a matter to show off and next decapitated Sunderland. Cineon then grabbed the rest of the men within the control room and threw them out a window violently, sending them all the way to the ground. Cineon put Sunderland's head into a sack and tied the sack to his waist.

His face turned into Sunderland's, and he also mimicked his voice. "Code Red! Code Red! We've had an intruder! All forces form a defensive perimeter around the base! Concentrate our forces, that's an order!"

OOC: My first post punching you was my first attack, I gave you a chance to defend yourself, and after that I can post a death shot. Sorry.

OOC: No, that was completely legal. I never even suspected. Well done.

IC: The two highly-trained sentinels standing guard outside the control room spun towards the door just as it locked shut. They needed to get in, and they needed in now. They heard Sunderland's words echo through the intercomm, but knew that things could not be secure.

One of them, by name of Trysis Varden, quickly and efficiently placed a thermal detenator close against the door. He motioned to his partner, Darin Leonis, and the two stepped back. The baridium core of the grenade detenated, and the ten-meter sphere of flame disentagrated the door.

Surveying the scene, Darin quickly realized two things--first, the corpse of who appeared to be a beheaded General Sunderland, due to the rank insignia and army uniform, was laying on the ground. Second, the perfect replica and only surviving being in the room, who was wearing clothes more common among Jedi, was not Sunderland.

While Trysis sent out a comm to the troops claiming that a shapeshifter posing as the General was loose, Darin armed a special weapon that he had constructed since arriving on Artus. Only the elite guards carried them, and only for such a situation--they were force pikes crafted out of the cortosis ore found naturally on Artus.

He thanked the Force for that coincidence and charged the Jedi/Sith changeling. The being's lightsaber connected with his pike and deactivated, putting a small notch in the shaft of the pike, but less than half-way through. Swinging the blade at the changeling, he managed to create a sizable gash in his arm, though hardly fatal.

Trysis also armed himself appropriately and served to reinforce Darin. Soon another pair of elite guards moved in from the corridor, arming themselves with their own pikes. Outside the shattered window was a squad of marines, two of which weilded flechette launchers and the rest with blasters.

The shapeshifter would not get away. Sunderland's death would not go unavenged. Darin would see to that, he promised himself. They had the being outmanned and surrounded.
