Background:

Unit 17 was created by the original Dr. Moro Zylus, an Umbaran geneticist, as an assistant to maintain the doctor’s experiments and research while his own time was consumed with the constant machinations of Umbaran social life. Rapidly grown, flash trained with the doctor’s expertise, and conditioned to lack personal ambition, Unit 17 was the latest of a long line of clones Dr. Zylus had created, and the first one to retain a stable mind. As such, he was the first one the doctor deemed a success and kept alive.

Over the next few years, Dr. Zylus became more and more dependent on Unit 17, eventually turning over control of several key projects while he struggled to make the final jump to the Rootai caste. Unexpectedly, just before the completion of a scheme that would bring him into the most powerful caste on Umbara, Dr. Zylus chose to leave Umbara to carry out his research in the wider galaxy. Rumors of foul play and violence in the Zylus manor were never confirmed, nor was the chemically rendered pool of biomatter found in the city outskirts ever identified.

Unit 17, now “Dr. Moro Zylus”, became something of a scientist for hire. In particular, he lent his expertise in cloning to wealthy patrons in exchange for funding for his research. Perhaps copying his creator, he grew his own clones to serve as his assistants and bodyguards, though unlike the original he was willing to modify them to be docile and obedient even if it meant dampening their innovative impulses. The new Dr. Zylus himself is narcissistic, obsessive, and a sociopath. 

Recently he’s taken an interest in the “Force phenomena”, so often shrouded in folklore and superstition, and as such has sought out Force-sensitive patrons whenever possible. Currently, he’s under the employ of Krath Inmortos.
