The children of Dazielle, of Onderon are the offspring of a woman who was both a prestigious ruler and a powerful force sensitive. Because of their parentage, society pressured the youngsters with the highest of expectations. Sur’illiad Volaris, like many children of the infamous Dazielle, grew up in the shadow of the lovely radiance of his mother. Sur’illiad constantly tried to live up to the standards set by his mother. Early on, he showed a flair for weapons and enjoyed physical training as a fighter. He also showed promise in a force capability that followed in his mother's arcane footsteps. His diversified interests meant that he fell behind some of his siblings in command of his powerful sensitivities, but his martial skill enabled him to develop a significant place for himself in the Onderonion armed forces.

As a member of a carnivorous Humanoid species, Sur’illiad Volaris’ life began in the Deep Core. While he was but a child, Sur’illiad’s family migrated to Onderon, where they aided the Onderonion military forces by submitting their children to their cause. Due to Onderon’s close proximity to the waging of wars throughout the decades, Sur’illiad was inducted routinely due to his strong determination to outdo the kin of his mother, always in disappointing fashion. The boy became man, and his sensitivity to the force was covertly identified and expounded upon with secrecies. In the years following, Sur’illiad was reborn as a Sith acolyte and apprentice. For years, Sur’illiad was considered a Sith of notable talent, but otherwise unremarkable ability, and unremarkable name.

He solemnly rose through the ranks to become the High Marshal of the Onderonion Legion however. He is talented, and he has dedicated himself to the defense of Onderon, no matter the cost. Despite all his skills, he worried habitually that he gained his position not because of his own merits but because of his mother's influence. He tried to set this insecurity aside, whenever he succeeded at particularly challenging endeavours, but it always ate at the back of his mind. Before the fates would befall him, Sur’illiad found himself heading a contingent of approximately 200 soldiers in the Dragon Gate Keep that remains to this day. Life there was fairly quiet, and most of the time was spent in training.

His soft-spoken ways and humble manners occasionally caused those who didn’t know him to underestimate him. Almost everyone who knew him held a healthy respect for his abilities and skills. He was honest and forthright, with strong ideas revolving his moral compass. His word was his bond, and he’d do whatever he could to keep a promise. Many of the men and women under his command served in the Onderonion Legion because of personal loyalty to Sur’illiad, serving until they all burned up in the spaces of their home, melting their fleshes against the cold steel of their vessels, becoming nothing more than a statistic. The Galactic Alliance had come, imposing their frivolous war.

During one of the earliest battles of the war, where the Sith ultimately experienced a military victory, Sur’illiad unconsciously slew a multitude of forces in his theater of battle, members of the Galactic alliance and Sith Empire alike. His psyche broke, someone or something, snapping him from the weight of war. His fears came alive, his family cut down in short order, and his men dying by the dozen. The lack of control was what did it. They died, and he lived, and there was nothing he could do about it. His apprenticeship taught him little in the way of seeding his passions, and his lust for more broke him as he watched those that trusted him, die uselessly to the stings of turbolaser fire. Although he was eventually cutt down on the streets of Iziz, left to die inside his own rage, Lord Volaris experienced a deep immersion in the Dark Side that staved off an imminent death. With another discovering his deeper potential, Sur’illiad Volaris was brutally carved into. His body, and his mind, thoroughly experimented. Every inch of who he was, and what he was, intruded upon. Carvers cut into his brain, numbing the traces of his humanity. Flesh-weavers stitched his body into titanic proportions, a goliath of a creature, hemmed harshly together. His natural rage was coddled with torture, but his life force waned with the stabbing wound that nearly finished him bleakly on the streets that raised him. Hanging by the threads of life and of death, what little consciousness he raised, was darkened by a dark side madness.

Hidden from the public, he was carved. Sur’illiad Volaris was a hollow husk of who he once was, chained and confined in an imprisoned state until the heart of Ares was delivered to his cell. The stone was incredible, humming with the condemned spirit of a Sith monster once known. It beat as if a heart lingered inside the stone, a whirling madness of dark energy screaming inside the small keepsake. Before him, the carvers allowed him to watch in awe, before they forced the stone down his throat and watched his eyes roll deeply into the back of his head. Sur’illiad Volaris was transformed.

The Godbeasts of Onderon

While the implications of Exodus’s seeding of Onderon with the Dark Side will be seen to some degree planet-wide, none were more deeply affected than the Beast Lords. Some tribes feared the changes brought on by eating corrupted beast flesh, and other tribes simply tried to endure it as a new facet of survival. A handful however sought mastery over this newfound power. Considered mad by the other tribes, they had their greatest hunters, shamans, and chieftains gorge themselves upon the meat of Sithspawn. Most were driven mad and heavily mutated by the Dark Side taint, but a select few of profound spiritual strength mastered the power that they had consumed and became monsters with insight ascendant.

The hunters became quadrupedal beasts with fangs that could tear through durasteel and hardened skin that was as resilient as heavy armor, their bodies growing to the size of a landspeeder. The shamans and shamanesses, trained in the path of walking between two worlds, became bestial hybrids, able to evolve their own bodies to adopt the traits of the beasts they had eaten. The chieftains found a higher truth and became as dragons.

While many understandably mistake the Godbeasts as warriors, their animal cunning and preference for stalking prey makes the assassin arts of highest appeal to them. The Godbeasts that spiritually guide their tribes also use the illusive powers to craft powerful internal journeys of the mind and to walk among their tribe unseen.
