Author's Note: the datapad is intended for narrative purposes only, the only things it will 'hack' will be story elements under my direct control. All other uses or attempts are useless. The character doesn't have any inherent skill with hacking, but they know a guy who hooked them up with said datapad preloaded with several hidden illegal programs and features designed to automatically interface and hack a small array of commonly used systems. There is no guarantee that such an attempt will go unnoticed, nor that it will work, as it is automated per programming scripts that the character doesn't have the slightest clue how to manipulate.

Background: 

Canan'ans'iitthral.

 

Ans of the Canan family, born into poverty, sold into slavery, raised by a Hutt cartel on Nar Shaddaa. Anan had a harsh upbringing, but his quick wit kept him from a poor fate. Eventually, he won his freedom in a bet with his master, who went on to fund his education as a lawyer. Anan chose to use his newfound skills as a defense lawyer, initially defending friends he knew were innocent, but moving on to defend friends of his cartel and then just in general. A few years later, Anan had it all. Credits, a lovely and loving wife, and a son who was moving quickly through schooling. Anan knew he could do more, and decided to try his hand at local politics.

 

It was the biggest mistake he'd ever made.

 

The incumbent had more connections than Anan realized, and his son was killed as a bystander in an unfortunate speeder bombing. In the aftermath, his wife committed suicide in her grief, and with most of his assets invested in his failed political bid, Anan had to rebuild from scratch out of the scraps of his former life. He rededicated his life to hunting the man who killed his son, first using cartel resources, then when that turned up nothing he eventually began his slow rise to power, eventually landing in the ranks of the Sith, using them as a means to an end. On the outside Anan is cold, calculating, and gives little away. On the inside, he's already several moves ahead of you regardless of your next move.
