Kel watched on in silence as the grand master and the Jensaarai discussed the histories of each of their groups. For a moment it seemed like hostilities would ensue when defender mantis aggressively rose from his seat in response to one of Adenna's remarks, but defender sarlacc prevented any escalation. Soon after, Kel was beginning to feel out of place when he heard a ping from his comm. The Jensaarai apprentice had requested a tour. seeing this as a perfect opportunity, Kel excused himself from the gathering to acquaint himself with the new comer.

When Kel arrived at the hangar he recieved a salute from the platform guards that Svata had spoken to. "As you were good sirs. I can handle things from here." and so the guards had returned to their posts leaving Kel and Svata to their own devices. "So, shall we be going then?"

Svata smiled. It had been some time since he'd met a Kel Dor, but he'd had a fondness for the species since meeting a Kel Dorian mechanic on a fueling station in the Hypori system. The old fool had made a habit of pushing himself by doing ship repairs without a spacesuit. He'd always joke that it was good incentive to be efficient. Personally, Svata suspected the man just did that for the small, quick repairs, but the clan hadn't gone back to that station more than a handful of times, so he'd never found out for sure. The mechanic had also been a surprisingly stable father and family man, with an appreciation for order and hospitality that Svata had come to associate with the species.

"Hey, I'm not going to complain. I was actually hoping to take a look at your lightsaber construction process. I understand its a pretty personal process, similar to a Jensaarai and their armor. Don't get me wrong, we're required to find or make our own lightsabers too," he said, waving his hand absentmindedly, "but not many of the Jensaarai I've met have put as much emphasis on it as a Jedi would, and I think that's a bit of an oversight on our part. I'd kick myself if I passed up the chance to see how you do things."

"I see." And so the two of them walked through thee halls until they reached a firing range which was adjacent to the armory. Kel then reached for his saber pistol and ignited the bright green blade. "There is a certain truth in that statement. There's a philosophy to the way we craft our lightsabers. Every lightsaber is unique. whether it's simply aesthetic." He then pressed a button turning the blade off, aimed the pistol at a target, and fired off a green bolt of laser fire hitting the target dead center. "Or in functionality." He then twirled the saber pistol in his hand like an actor in an old holovid before placing the weapon back in its holster. "We Jedi have a certain saying, "A lightsaber is a Jedi's life". To us the lightsaber is more than a simple tool. It is the culmination of the lessons we've learned and the struggles we've endured. It is our faithful companion in preserving our lives and the lives of the innocent. And it is the guiding light with which we shape the next generation. It is our past, present, and future."

Once he had finished his demonstration, Kel gestured for Svata to follow him yet again. "Now, i believe you wish to construct your own lightsaber yes? do you have a Kyber Crystal?"

Svata shrugged, holding out his wrist and letting the four tiny, deep yellow crystals dangling from the charm glint in the light.

"Dantari crystals. Passed down through the family. Supposedly it changed color depending on the 'heart of the holder' but I think that was just a tall tale I got fed.

Will these do?"

Svata had planned on using the old family heirlooms ever since he'd joined the Jensaarai. He was the last Dragoste. It would be best that their legacy found some use at the end of the line.

"I have a feeling these side adventures would happen whether or not I was born a Darkfire. Some things just are how they are."

He took one last sip of his caf, looking long and hard at the cup. He didn't want this to end, the little slice of happiness he now shared with Sandy. She had been the one person who he felt most comfortable around, where he could lower his defenses and not worry about being attacked for who he was or his past or any of his other weak points. He could simply be himself around her, and it sucked that he always tended to realize it right before they tended to part ways.

"Also, while I'd love to come with you to Scarif, I'm still liable to get orders to go elsewhere. When we get some more free time, though...would you like to do that meditation with me I talked about earlier? I think someone there with me would really help, I don't know, brace me through the process? That sounds like kind of the right way to put it, I guess."

He stood from the table, looking around before focusing back on Sandy with a warm smile.

"I should go report in, though. With all the activity around this place chances are I already have orders waiting for me, and while I was given some time off, I'm sure they won't wait forever on me."

Sandy nodded slowly, glancing down into the burned dregs of the caf, where small speckles of the bean floated in the remnants of the drink. She set the cup down and flicked the metallic rim smiling at the soft metallic sound and looked back at Aidan. “Yes, these adventures are persistent enough that I almost miss the galaxy wide peace.” She laughed at the bitter joke and glanced back at the table, her hands wrapping mechanically around the cooling mug. She could feel the tinge of disappointment in her voice as she spoke. They were a good team, and if there was anyone that she trusted within the Rebel Alliance, it was Aidan Darkfire. “Well it should be a relatively quick mission for me without danger so I will see you again soon after we part ways.” There was the silent, unsaid I hope that echoed with those words.

War, especially this kind of war, was brutal, friends departing as swift as meteorites and burning just as bright. And somewhere in the back of her mind she dreaded reading the holo reports in the coming months. Constantly fearing if the little holo name of her best friend would be outlined in red. She looked back up and forced a smile on her face.

I would be honoured to meditate with you Aidan, if you can catch me before we go off on the missions I will be in my room, and…” She stood as well, extending her hand. “If we don't see each other before we go, please stay safe, and may the force always be with you.” She hated that phrase, it was always spoken with the expectation that the force was not with them. But nothing else felt appropriate.

He took her hand, smiling warmly as he stared into her eyes.

"And also with you."

And then the moment passed, and the young Imperial Knight found himself walking the hallways of the base towards the nerve center of the Jedi command areas. It was high time he'd reported in. When he arrived, some of the more important brass seemed to be in a meeting, so he sat outside in the main operations area waiting for them to finish.

Adenna was glad that Tobias had elected not to cause a scene. She knew he didn't always have the reputation for being diplomatic, and while she wasn't exactly an expert at that herself, she didn't need any issues. She would talk with him after this, though time was short since she was planning on heading to Serenno to launch a much needed bank heist to help with other plans.

"Yes, we will be targeting the lanes between Kuat and Coruscant, as well as any others in the area that might be useful. We have been placing agents and spies on the ground to give us a minor heads up of when large shipments might be heading out, but it will be a grab bag of things that might get caught. Stop everything possible, and if it is clearly not working with the Sith, then let it go. If they are, even if they are simply supplying them, capture the ship and cargo if possible, otherwise warn them then destroy the ship."

She pressed a small button on her belt summoning an Adept to the hall to serve as an escort. "The Jedi will be sending a small fleet of frigates and corvettes to escort the Interdictor. They will be under the command of Captain Enterion, but I will make sure he works with you and your cruiser. Let us see how our people can work together, then we can see about expanding our relationship. Your Saarai-Kaar may send whomever you wish to join the Jedi here and we can see about an exchange of ideas and training if that sounds agreeable to you and her."

She stood, gave a quick respectful bow of her head, then gestured to the Adept who would be able to take their guests back to their ship. Further instructions would follow, and she would make sure Captain Enterion was aware of their new allies. She wanted to remain a while and talk with Vos, a long overdue conversation.

She watched him walk away, flexing the hand that he had so recently grasped, and she was almost completely overwhelmed by a sorrow that bubbled up from the very pit of her stomach. It was a long standing sorrow, and one that she easily pushed away with an exhalation of her lungs that scattered the dismal feelings away. But was it the old unrequited feeling of her heart? Or was it something else? Some kind of premonition of what was to come? She didn’t know, but she did watch the back of his black haired head until it disappeared around the corner of the cafeteria door. She blinked and looked down at her hand, placing it palm down on the cool metal of the table, letting the force calm her tired mind. Sorrow was replaced with a calm pride in Aidan and his journey.

He was strong and had done his family more than proud.

She shook her blonde head, and walked slowly back to her room, letting the exhausted state of her body lead her to the spartan quarters buried in the Jedi barrack. She smiled wanly at the ‘master’ placed before her name on the duraplast door, pushed it open, let it slide closed behind her and with a flop, fell into a deep sleep on the bed.

The armored Duros set his fork on his plate and templed his fingers at chin level as he listened to Adenna. Nodding slowly, he spoke, “Then let the bonds that were severed in blood be bound once again by blood. The blood of our enemies. I will look forward to rendezvousing with you in the future to more formally cement our renewed bonds.”

Standing, The Sarlacc briefly nodded to Adenna before turning as he and The Mantis exited the room. The Sarlacc paused briefly as he passed Tobias. “Master Vos, I look forward to seeing your exploits firsthand.”

Back at their ship,  The Duros turned to his companion, “Go see if you can find the Jedi healer you have bound yourself to. I can feel that she may need you.”

Seeing that their cruiser was safely secured and the crew about their regular tasks, the Duros made his way to a sentry to enquire as to a training yard. He did not want to interrupt his apprentice and had every confidence the elder Jensaarai would come through. Even before the Ryn had joined their order, he was a proven survivor.

A brief escort later, and the armored Jensaarai found himself in a well worn dirt packed open air yard, a practice facility of sorts, no doubt. While his escort positioned itself outside the doors in hopes the visiting Jensaarai would not wander off, The Sarlacc slowly walked to the far side of the worn field. There he ritualistically removed each piece of his custom built armor and carefully stacked it as he had done more times than he could count, his array of weapons safely nestled beneath the pile save for one, his collapsable aros - staff, cortosis infused to withstand the blow of a saber, the weapon was by far one of the Defender’s preferred means of individual combat. The weight of the weapon helped him focus as well.

Picking up the rod, no more than 2 handholds in length, the barefoot Duros strode to the center of the field, his black body glove skin tight against his wiry frame. Stopping in the middle, the man closed his eyes, allowing the force to flow around him its protective sphere shielding him from any watchful eyes.

Inhaling deeply, The Duros stepped forward, twirling the rod in his hands so each end ratcheted out, locking in place at it’s designed 6 foot length. With his eyes still closed, he stepped forward the weapon whirling about him in a blur of spinning hands and metal. Step. Step. Turn. Swing. Duck. Step. Twirl. Twist. Step. Swing. Smash. Step. Swing. Step. Step. Leap. Smash. Roll. Twist. Leap. Step. Turn. Step. Turn. Step. Swing. Roll. Turn. Step. A continuous flow of moves that increased in speed and ferocity; each flowed into the next like water down the falls free-falling to the rocks below and smashing in a spray of blurring vapor to coat and conceal all in its path. His body became a whirling blurred vortex as he gave himself over to the force. His mind was lost in the force as he followed the meditative steps of the combat drill. Each step, turn, twist, and swing was ingrained in the fibers of his very being. The Sarlacc was the master of his body and his body was a vessel of the force’s will. He channeled it and from his body it flowed.  The force twisted and arced with energy as it warped and blurred about his body, whipping up the still blades of grass and bits of dirt in its vortex. Where did the Duros end? Where did the force begin? This was The Sarlacc.

It had been months since Brazen had arrived at Nar Shadaa and the Jedi Knight was still in utter disbelief with all the change. Walking the streets outside the Jedi Outpost, he looked around in quiet contemplation, the memories of Coruscant fresh upon his mind. So much had changed since he disappeared, the Galaxy all the darker for it. But here, on the once infamous Smuggler's Moon, a beacon of hope was lit anew.

Yet, for Brazen, there was still alot of darkness to fight through. He was filled with anger and vengeance, wanting to seek retribution for Coruscant and the Jedi Order. And so, he had spent most of the time since his return balancing his spirit, delving deep into his meditations, as he sought to curb his resentment and angst. Even going as far as seeking the Masters of the Order for their wisdom and guidance.

But despite the tempering of his mind and the balancing of his spirit in the Force, despite the best intentions of the Masters, he still felt alone in this Galaxy, and unable to turn the page he found himself stuck upon. Kicking a small loose stone with his boot, he recited the Order's age old Tenents in silence to himself, closing his eyes and opening his mind as his breathing steadied.

"There is no Emotion; There is Peace,

There is no Ignorance; There is Knowledge,

There is no Passion, There is Serenity,

There is no Death; There is the Force."

With a relaxed sigh, Brazen turned the corner and back into the Outpost, and perhaps today would finally be the turning of the page. For today was the day he was to meet with Jedi GrandMaster @Adenna Alluyen for the first time since his arrival at Nar Shadaa and his realization of how much the Galaxy has changed since his disappearance almost two centuries ago. It was her who suggested that he take the time he needed to get familiarized with this new era and center himself, and so he did. But Brazen had never been one to sit around for too long.

When he reached the waiting area outside her office, he noticed one of these Imperial Knights @Aidan Darkfire he'd heard about sitting across the way. In all honesty, he thought them to be heretics, tempting themselves with the darkside to defeat it. But after gazing upon the man briefly, he seemed no different than Braze did, albeit Brazen was sure his armor was better looking. While he awaited the Grandmaster's summons, Brazen approached the man and offered a hand.

"Brazen Makashi, but you can call me Kashi, Imperial."

As soon as their Jensaarai guests left, Adenna turned her attention to Tobias. She had heard reports that he had suffered physically, but she had not been prepared for the level of aging that had descended upon her old lover. It broke her heart to see him like this, but she could at least gain comfort when she saw him through the Force and saw that much of the tightness and struggle had been resolved. That was good, at least.

They talked for several minutes, but, with her new job, she didn't have the amount of time she had wanted. There were others waiting on her and there was a fleet to launch. Tobias was in no condition to come with her, so this would be another goodbye. Leaving him with a charge to heal his body and ready himself for war once again, she left him in the hall to greet the other two waiting for her. Before she opened the door, she let out a deep breath and with it, the pent up emotions that had been stirred up by seeing Tobias again. When that breath was out, she breathed in and with that, brought her mind back under control.

She activated the door and started the short journey back to her office. By the time she was there, she was the calm, serene Grandmaster who was in control and ready to fight. "Knight Makashi," she said, first greeting the odd Jedi Knight who had contacted the Jedi Order several months ago claiming to be from the old Order. "It is good to see you here, and I am glad you answered my summons."

She looked over at the far younger man in his Imperial Knight armor. "Knight Darkfire," she said, "it is also good to have you here, and congratulations on your promotion. Please, join me in my office for a few minutes."

When they were settled in, she quickly got to explaining their mission and what they were to do. "We will be raiding Serenno. Due to its wealth, it has a branch of the Imperial Treasury Department has a hub there and it is full of Sith Crowns. Though it is the currency of our enemy, it is still currency and can be most useful when trading with neutral parties or using bribes to get information and intelligence, and that is why we want it. Not only that, but we will also be hitting several industrial factories producing weapons and body armor as a distraction.

"The first phase of this operation will involve scoping out and raiding the Treasury. I believe the two of you will be most useful there, and you will have a squad of troopers to help. You will land first before the fleet arrives on a common civilian transport purchased through a third party from a Sith sympathetic planet. Once on the ground, you will need to get through customs which could be a bit of fun, but then you will find the Treasury, analyze it, and launch a raid. While Treasury employees are civilians, they are also part of the Sith government and will be loyal to it. Use stun weapons if you need on the workers, but you may deal with guards or armed resistance as you see fit.

"Once you have prepared yourself and ready to attack, I will come in with the fleet to cause a distraction. While we deal with any resistance in orbit, we will also bomb the factories hopefully drawing the civil attention there. You will raid the Treasury as soon as the bombs fall on the factories. I will also send additional troops and shuttles to pull out the currency you capture. Don't sacrifice yourselves in a pointless fight, but the Jedi and the Rebellion need as much money as you can take. As soon as you are in the air, with or without money, we will evacuate and leave.

"Any questions? We will have more time on the way to go over fine details, but if you have any glaring questions, now is the time."

"Yes, those should work quite well. And that 'tall tale' just might hold more truth you think. the crystals we use in lightsabers are special because of their attunement to the force. And since we are also attuned to it, we can draw out or even influence certain characteristics of crystals. Who knows, maybe once you finish constructing your lightsaber, those crystals could turn Blue, purple, green, or even some obscure color like orange or black. and that's not even going into color shades."

Eventually, the two of them reached a room lined with shelves and a work bench. each shelf contained a variety of parts and casings in different styles one might use for constructing a lightsaber. "It's not as much what you'd find at one of our temples, but I'm sure between this and the armory, you should be able to construct a worthwhile lightsaber. So, are you ready to get started?"

The old ryn shuffled around the room, absent-mindedly muttering as he did.

"Emitter arrays...crystal energy chambers...a diatium power cell..." He stopped as his eyes landed on the tip of something pale poking out from one of the top shelves. Stretching, he pinched the tip and brought it down. A 4' length of smooth, featureless yellow-white, it had been carved to the rough approximation of a weapon haft but hadn't been finished.

Svata turned it over in his fingers, bringing it close to his face.

"Not bone. A horn of something." He frowned as his thumb brushed hairline cracks on one of the tips. "Not strong enough on its own, and it'll fracture if not handled right...but if I cut off the end and hollow it out with a low heat laser, then coat the inside with a plasteel based polymer, and then...hmm..."

Twirling it in his fingers, he turned back to Kel Koon.

"I think this room should do nicely. I've studied the process...theoretically anyway. I should be able to knock out the basic construction. As for the attunement...well, I guess I'll have to muddle through. From what I understand, it requires days of meditation." Svata's grin turned somber, and he bowed to the Jedi. "I truly appreciate your assistance, and I'm honored by your hospitality. The Jedi have long been the light of the galaxy, and you uphold that legacy in such turbulent times." Svata smiled again, and for a moment he was just an old man with a young heart.

"Thank you."

Aidan took the Brazen's hand, giving it a firm shake, not sure at first why introductions were necessary.

"Uh...Aidan. Nice to meet you."

And then the Grandmaster summoned them into the briefing room together, and it all made much more sense. The briefing itself was highly intriguing, as this missions was to be the first time Aidan felt he was finally going to hit the Sith where it hurt. It was a long time coming, too. As the time came for questions, Aidan quickly piped up.

"Are we going to have to improvise customs, or do we have backup plans like cargo smuggling crates? Maybe a bribe for a customs agent? Worse comes to worse I suppose we could impersonate some Sith, but I'd rather it didn't come down to that."

He felt it was a valid concern, as it was a choke point that could cause the whole plan to crumble before it got off the ground. If the fleet arrived and the goal wasn't accomplished, it could easily mean a lot of lives lost over nothing.

While he had tried to leave as soon as the guests had left- Adenna took a moment to speak with him. Or at least that was her intent. Tobias remained seated as she mumbled to herself and spoke in half started sentences. This was most unusual, especially for her. Had their time apart cause some unseen reactions? Probably. In order to bridge the gap though, a conversation was needed. One that might never happen, as Adenna told Vos to get better and then she left.

As she left, he was sure she felt a spike of outrage from Tobias. However, he reeled the emotion back in, dusted off his immaculate Jedi Robes, leaned onto his cane and made his way outside once again. Had she blinded herself to him? Could she not feel it? Her remarks made him a little nervous about his own assessment of himself.

Frustrated and bored, he hobbled back to the training yard-about to do something stupid and reckless. Maybe he was feeling normal once again...

Adenna was glad for the acceptance and pragmatism of the Imperial Knight. He didn't question the need or overall picture of the task assigned to him, he wanted only to know the details. "You have multiple options, it depends on what you want to utilize. Money is a possibility, but sometimes risky. You can also use the Force to 'persuade' Customs to ignore your lightsaber and weapons. You also could choose to disassemble the weapons and conceal your lightsaber, or a combination of all. Serenno is a Sith planet, but it is not on the front lines. While Sith security always strives to be vigilant, the truth is that nobody can always be completely on their game all of the time. Years of no threats dulls any security system, and I anticipate you and your teams will be able to take advantage of that."

Despite her words, she knew infiltration missions were always risky. That is why she wouldn't be going with the initial team. It wasn't a decision of cowardice, but one of pragmatism. If the initial infiltration was compromised and killed or captured, it would be tragic but recoverable. If they captured or killed the Grandmaster, however, it would be devastating. She might not be in the first wave, but she would be joining the reinforcing team that came to help them collect the currency once they took the Treasury and would help them in fending off Sith counterattacks.

"I know infiltration is difficult, but that is why we are only sending a half dozen men with you. The fewer that go, the less the chance that they will be discovered. I am sending two Knights to balance out the low numbers. Make no mistake, this is a risky mission, but no more risky than the front lines. The Jedi Order and Rebel Alliance needs this money almost as much as we need a symbolic strike against the Sith. So far, out offensives in this War have not gone well with only a few exceptions. We need to start building victories, and we also need money to buy more weapons, ships, and supplies. This will help us do it."

Kashi, who had remained admittedly quiet through most of the discussion, reeling from the subtle settling truth that not only had the Sith returned, but also held such a vast Empire, sat forward and cleared his parched throat.

"First off..." Kashi let his words roll out casually, quickly turning to a quite coyful finish as he smiled. "Please, call me Kashi. Makashi was my father."

"Secondly..." Kashi's voice turned to a more ominous and serious tone as his gaze shifted down toward the table after first glancing shamefully at the Imperial Knight that sat across from him. "As you know Grandmaster Alluyen, beings like the ones you are describing so casually, I have never faced before. Cultists, Darksiders dabbling in the forbidden teachings, fallen Jedi... sure. But not the Sith. Not full fledged Disciples of the Dark."

Kashi's hesitation was evident in his voice, the self doubt apparent in his gaze. But his determination came out in his composure, his posture, and even the occasional shifting of his Commander Armor not seen since Eras of long ago. It wasn't out of fear that he spoke, but inexperience. And as he finished, his gaze shifted once more to Aidan.

"As such, lastly...." Kashi spoke with a half hearted grin, softly hiding his reluctance to work under an Imperial Knight and vaguely showing his realization of knowing his better. "I believe... Aidan Darkfire was it... should be in command and I'll follow his lead. It only seems right that those with more in depth experience lead the charge."

"Oh I lived on a ship in the Cathar strait...with a man with a droid with its brain in a crate...badum bidoom badum..."

The old tune came to Svata without thinking as he shuffled around the room, hand picking out bits of tech and squirreling them away in his pockets like a bird pecking berries off a bush.

"Badum biddi bum biddi bum..." he mumbled. "And he said he knew a witch of lore on Dathomir so wild...Come with me and she'll teach you much of love and life my child..."

Alright...that should be everything. Better go find Defender Sarlaac.

Svata kept humming the old tune as he sauntered through the hallways, tail swinging to the silent beat, his feet occasionally breaking into a shuffle and a slide when the guards weren't looking. At least, he hoped they weren't looking.

It took some wandering, but he eventually found The Sarlaac in a practice yard practicing his drills. It was easy to forget sometimes that the polite man was a warrior, but demonstrations like this showed off the years of dedication that man had spent to perfect his art.

"Defender Sarlaac," Svata said without waiting. If his interruption was enough to break the duros' concentration, then his new master was in sore need of some retraining. "Did everything go well?"

The Rebel Alliance fleet limped its way home on the brutal edge of complete destruction. Though they had some victory in the fact that they had survived the ordeal, it was doubtful that any officer in the fleet much relished their victory. Raven sat in the antechamber to the bridge, staring blankly at the slowly moving tactical feedback that showed a recreation of the battle. Could she justify every action, every death? Of course there was some justification for any of the losses taken by the Rebel Alliance, a dishonest person could always justify anything.

But Raven could not. She could see the faces, hear the voices breaking and disappearing in the recordings, and so she slowly relived the deaths of thousands as the Rebel Fleet limped back into port.

Whirling about, the Duros and his staff were one, just as they were one with the force; but just as Svata and Tobias entered the training yard, he began to slow. Whirling the stick above his head, he flipped over it once more launching himself into the air. With a soft landing that barely disturbed the dust he landed a few feet from the new arrivals.

“Jedi Vos, Apprentice Svata. Greetings. I trust everything went well for each of you on your perspective journeys?”

“Brother Svata, it appears that we will be lending our skills to the Jedi right away. I believe that your experiences and particular charm will be of great use to us. Do you happen to have a disguise for a space pirate in those pockets of yours?”

Looking to Vos, the Duros continued. “Have you come to assist us Master Jedi? Or perhaps we can assist you in your quest?”

Keeping his focus on the two, The Sarlacc began to carefully reapply his armor, piece by piece.

And there were the two Jensaarai. Fantastic. They noticed him and therefor it was now rude to just walk away from them. Might as well make some new friends.

"Defenders." He chuckled, warmly. "Hmm, my journey is forever evolving."

The two addressed one another briefly and then back to Vos.

Shrugging, he smirked and looked at the Jensaarai. "Doubtful anyone can help me with my quest. Unless you can put me in front of the Dark Lord?" His expression, despite being hidden behind the cloth wrapped around his eyes, was humorous- but serious. "Or behind him... as long as I am not a prisoner of theirs."

He shrugged in a way that expressed a 'But hey, what can you do' as sort of a manner.

"I haven't been given any direction as to what your crew is planning, nor have been instructed to assist you. I am a leaf upon the wind... as it were." Vos chuckled again. His warm and friendly aura suggested he was part of the happy-go-lucky crowd.

Adenna looked at the temporally out of place Knight. She could understand his fears for she herself had faced them before. Uncertainty, hesitation, belief of inadequacy, and fears of failure had plagued her when she was young and, in some ways, still haunted her steps. She had only read stories of the old Jedi Order at its height, and from what she read, they were not slouches nor were they inadequate.

Though her response was firm, it was without any hostility, insult, or belittlement. "Knight Makashi, I know some things about the Jedi of your time. No, they didn't have to face the Sith at their might, but they also were far from weak nor did they award the honor of Knighthood lightly. You have earned your rank by gaining the approval of an Order of Masters who had the time and ability to properly, fully vet and test their Padawans and consider their skills. Though it doesn't demean our current Order, there are times where I wish that the Knights and Masters of today could benefit from that careful consideration and reflection rather than being the product of battlefield promotions of necessity."

She gently placed one hand on his shoulder, allowing a small portion of her own surety in their purpose to flow through to him. "I understand your hesitation and fears, but we are Jedi and the Force flows through us. We are on the righteous path, not the easy one, and sometimes that means we must swallow our fears and embrace courage. When I was young, not even a Knight, the call went out to take a stand against yet another Death Star, a massive, moon sized weapon capable of destroying entire planets in one shot. Fleets in the thousands gathered in both sides to fight for this weapon and I took my place among the Jedi who answered that call. I was unprepared, barely skilled, and untested in combat, but every hand and every pure heart was needed. A Master much wiser than me saw my fear, sensed my desire to be courageous, and allowed me to stand with those heroes: a feat for which I am most proud and that molded me more than almost any other I have done. We do not always get to choose our opponents or when we must serve."

Her hand left his shoulder and pointedly hovered over her side where the scar still remained beneath her robes. "I cannot say I made much of any difference, but I took that stand and the Force guided me through it, though with scars. At this time, you may not see your own skills or believe yourself adequate, but that is not the man I see." There was pride in her voice as she continued, pride for the sacrifice and history of the Jedi. "You are a Jedi Knight and, no matter what the Sith or anyone else may say, there is honor and pride in that. Trust the Force and let it guide your steps and you shall find your courage and rise to the situation. If you fall in this or any other conflict, let it not be to something lesser than yourself caused because you were afraid or unsure. Let your fall be because you faced a foe truly greater than yourself and decided to make that stand and sacrifice so that others might not have to."

She paused a moment. "I would not have you accept a burden you are not ready to bear unless need dictate it. In this case, we are fortunate to have Knight Darkfire whom I do believe is able to lead the infiltration mission. It would be good to allow one of our Imperial Knight allies to show the strength of his Order so that it may strengthen the Jedi as well. We should be departing soon and there will be more time in hyperspace to prepare yourselves."

Sandy awoke with a start, immediately pulled back into the real by the smell of sweat, blood, and burned ozone, accented by the charred meat smell of a lightsabres killing blow. She shivered for a moment as her mind reeled to find itself, the rough linen bedsheets feeling strange against her face. A face that had been used to sleeping in crash webbing and flight chairs for the last few months. She could see Fynns eyes still burned into her eyelids for a few moments as she blinked away her sleep.

When she finally pulled herself up and off her bed she felt stiff as if the muscles in her back had been intensely active for the last several hours. She groaned and sank into a stretch, letting her mind slowly clear as she went through her morning meditations. She could easily identify what her dreams had been, and those yellowed eyes looked ever back at her as she began to work with the force to refresh herself. Trauma, even if it was righteous trauma, still left its scars , and Sandy let the tears come, falling warmly and blissfully down her cheeks as she stretched, letting the emotions penned up by the dreams slowly release along with the tears. She let her breathing calm into a steady beat and let the emotion slowly wash out of her.

Acknowledging each before she let them go.

Fear. Fear for the loss of her own life, the lives of her friends, fear that she would eventually have to do what she did to Fynn to someone else. Fear of failure.

Anger. Anger at Fynn, anger at his fall.

Pride. Pride in her victories.

Sorrow. Sorrow at the death of her one time friend and mentor. Sorrow in leaving her friends. Sorrow at the loneliness that beat at the edge of her heart.

She let them flow out of her and when they were gone she took a deep breath. Exhaled, then took a quick sanisteam shower and redressed into her battle gear. Then she went to find Aidan to see if he had received new orders.

Leena smiled as she hopped down off the transport, a spring in her step. It had taken several days to recover from her ordeal on Mon Cal and she was still not sure of what had all happened or the outcome. Passing out after her expulsion of force powers, the crew of the ship had spirited her to safety and helped arrange transport for her back to the Jedi.

Even as the chaos of what she did remember on Mon Cal played at the back of her mind, Leena couldn’t help but smile. She had survived. She had helped, somehow. Still, she needed to tell somebody about what had happened; the explosion at the hospital, the other Jedi, the Sith acolyte, the raid on the warehouse, everything. There was a darkness there, a darkness that needed the attention of more Jedi than just her and the two strange refugee Jedi.

Making her way through the Jedi compound on Nar Shaddaa, Leena pondered what came next. Maybe she was better fit for a hospital wing. Things tended to not explode there.

Rounding a corner, Leena came to an abrupt stop as she pressed herself against the wall to avoid running into a warrior Jedi, Sandy Sarna. “Oh! Excuse me Master Jedi,” she stammered lowering her head in reverence. “I was lost in my own thoughts and not paying attention to the world around me. You see, I, well, I just got here and was going to go report in on what happened. Then,” she sighed looking downcast, her voice falling with her emotions, “I thought I would return to the infirmary. Nothing tends to blow up there.”

Aidan let out a nervous chuckle. "Well, all things considered, I feel like my own recent rank was earned a battlefield promotion of necessity. That being said, I understand the constraints and demands of this mission. If I'm taking point on the ground game here, we must be hurting for good leaders." He meant it as wry humor, but there was also a slight undertone of the stark reality of the situation. Aidan was clearly nervous over being given his own command, but after a brief pause he rallied himself and his confidence.

"Grandmaster, I have no further questions. I have a few ideas as to how to breach customs and accomplish objectives, but those can wait for a small briefing in hyperspace enroute to Serenno. And, Kashi, was it? If you're anything like the other Jedi I've worked with, I have no doubt you'll handle yourself just fine. Regardless of the risks here, we can't afford to not take risks anymore, the Sith have too large a stranglehold on critical nerve clusters of Galactic commerce and culture. Still...I promise I'm going to do my best here to make sure we all make it home alive."

Aidan bowed deeply in sincere reverence to the Grandmaster. "If that will be all, I need to gather my things and prepare. I will meet the team at the transport in one hour."

The young Imperial Knight excused himself, making his way back to his quarters. While he didn't have time to meet with Sandy, he did send her a message.

Spoiler

"Uh, hey, it's me. Not sure if I should be using the honorific titles here...it feels kind of weird. I wanted to let you know that I wouldn't be able to do the meditation like we talked about in person, I got orders to go elsewhere. I probably shouldn't mention where, just for the sake of operational security, but I did want to have a long comm session where we meditate together, if that's still okay. I should have time enroute to do that at the least...and I really wanted to. Enclosed is the code to my room and instructions on how to access my dad's holocron and how to get to the meditation I was talking about. If you can't, I understand, we can catch up later.

I'll miss you.

Sandy Sarna stood, leaning against the doorframe of one of the walkways between the gymnasium and food dispensary in the newly built rebel base. She held her newly acquired datapad and slowly ran her finger unter the pale blue font of the inbuilt intranet messaging system. The datapads small connection cable attached firmly to the small comm link at in her belt, coiling its wire in a small spool at the bottom of the imperial issued datapad. She had read the message  several times. Including the attached instructions, but her emerald green eyes always were drawn back to the single line.

“I’ll miss you.”

She did not let her heart feel those words but she could still be moved by them. She blinked before rereading the message again, only to be slightly bumped into by a dour looking Mon Calamari. She couldn’t exactly be sure of the Mon Cal’s expression as their faces always were a mystery to her, She recognized the Mon Cal after a second of pondering and a bright smile stretched across her lips. This was one of the specialized Jedi healers of which she had heard bright review from the Imperial Knights.

She snapped the datapad closed and returned the bow, her green eyes inquisitive as she asked, “I hear that you and others have returned from the disaster over Mon Calamari, the Rebel Alliance is scrambling to figure out a counter.” She tapped the closed datapad as if to indicate something of importance. “And we have reports of the environmental disaster on Scarif beginning to reach their peak.” She raised an inquisitive eyebrow. “I know that you likely need rest and meditation after your ordeal, but I would request that you accompany me to Scarif to assist in healing the natives.” She held up a hand as if to forestall any protests, “But it is only a request, I leave tomorrow midmorning, so you have time to come to a decision. Meet me in docking port twelve if so.” She tapped the datapad again with a scarred hand. The faint scars reaching from each fingertip to wrist. She had been skinned alive once a decade before, and the scars, however small and faded, still spoke of her dark journey through the slaver rings on Thalassia. “But go and make your reports, I have a few things to do myself.”

She bowed, picked up her pack, and strode off to the Imperial Knight quarter.

She tried the door and it slid back with ease, moving silently on its oiled tracks. The room itself was as spartan as her own temporary room in the prefab barracks, little looked out of place, and even less looked like it actually belonged to him. Sandy figured that the same scene would be repeated throughout the entire alliance. Thousands of rooms were the same, places used as a stopover for a few days between missions that could last months. Nonetheless, Sandy was honoured to have the privilege of being invited into this one small sanctuary of Darkfire’s and so she carefully set her bundle down and slid the door shut behind her. She took a deep breath and walked slowly to the foot of Aidan’s bed, where the cerro-metal footlocker sat.

She placed her unscarred hand over the metal lock and let her eyes flutter closed. The arm had been grown from a coral-like substance harvested by her friend T’ali’au, and had replaced the arm she had lost there. As she let the force overpower the locking mechanism, she said a silent prayer for that friend. Who she had left with promises of Jedi intervention on the overloading core. That had been back when she had been a young knight, and now here she was several years later only now beginning the journey to return.

As the lock fell away she lifted the lid of the foot locker and found the small cube of opaque crystal. She withdrew it from its casing and reclosed the foot locker, placing the holocron on top of it. She placed two cylindrical incense censers beside it then sat on the floor before the holocron. She let her eyelids close and reached out a hand. Fire ignited in the censers, spreading the calming smell of meditative incense throughout the room. It blocked the lingering smell of him, and left no room for distractions.

She breathed in and activated the holocron through the force.

Terra slid into the long line at the recruiting station, taking her place among the denizens; the poor and criminal that were trying to escape life on the rusting world. She was without her beskar’gam, she had left that with Hades, and she absently played with the rusty-blonde plait of braided hair that hung over her shoulder. She sighed, staring down the diverse line of applicants, shuffling her feet in boredom. Her eyes landed on a recruiting poster, showing a dark-purple haired noble giving a speech to lines of smartly dressed troopers.

...Spast. Why didn’t I expect you to be mixed up in all this.

The Deathwatch Warrior stared at her reflection in the back-plating of a Rodian bounty hunter. The symbol of the deathwatch was beginning to scar on her forehead, the action of the kolto she had been spraying into the wound daily. It was an ugly scar, a mark of her own dishonor.

You are Dar’Manda.

Another few feet of shuffling in line. She caught some stares from a few of the Rebel Soldiers on-guard at the recruiting post. Terra knew their thoughts, a scarred waif was of little use to the Rebel Alliance, probably a greater liability than a positive in wartime. Another orphan. Another broken-hearted girl spurned by her lover run to the military to be useless in the war effort.

You will always be Dar’Manda

She kept her posture as cowardly and nonthreatening as she could manage as the line advanced, and before she knew it her thoughts were interrupted by a datapad thrust towards her. It was proffered by the Thesavarian Soldier behind the recruiting desk, who’s molluskul buds were twisted in a skeptical expression.

“Your information, sister.”

The warrior took the datapad in her scarred hands, tilting it towards herself for privacy before swiftly triggering it into its own root program.

The Echani blinked several times stifling a guffaw and shifted her forged flimsiplast papers as if looking for a specific date. She courteously stepped aside for the next recruit and continued her data entry with an apologetic expression towards the Soldier. She accessed the admin menu, flipping through the data as quickly as possible

Terra triggered the message and rerouted the datapad to its normal booting system, quickly entering her data before handing it to the Soldier. She had not bothered signing the message, it would be enough. The warrior had entered her unit detail, the ship she pledged and an exorbitant fee, to which the soldier scoffed openly. He shooed her away with a dismissive wave of a tentacle and a few huttese curses, but she had what she needed. Flipping open her own datapad, she awaited a commlink message.

Leena blinked in surprise at the Jedi before her. Before she had time to object, the veteran warrior silenced her with a finger. ‘Scarif . . . healing . . . ‘ she pondered the request. She felt like an utter disappointment, but someone wanted her help and people needed healing. How could she not help. Before she could respond Sandy Sarna was gone.

Lost in her thoughts Leena began to make her way down the corridors. Who was she supposed to report to even? Other Jedi were involved. Other Jedi were probably dead. That was more important than a medical checklist on the sick, dead, and recovered. Pondering it as she walked along, Leena turned the thoughts over and over in her head. She really had no other choice; she knew it. Such a report needed to be made to the Grandmaster. If someone, a Jedi, was still alive on Mon Cal and needed rescuing, the Grandmaster would be the one to arrange it! But where was the Grandmaster? Reaching out on the force, Leena could feel the calming waves of goodness and light ebbing and flowing throughout the base. “Uhhhhhh.” she wondered aloud.

“Seems a bit odd for a Jedi to drool on themselves in the hallway” a cool calm voice reverberated out of what had just been vacant space. The armored being caused Leena to draw back, startled; his armor bore a resemblance to the ancient Sith she had seen in the holocrons, but the shadowy signature he cast in the force was decidedly good.

Oh! Uhm hello there. I did not see you there. Are you a Jedi? You don’t look like any Jedi I have ever seen. I’m sorry. I am just a bit distracted. We got attacked by the Sith and I was, well, lost in my thoughts. Do you know where the Grandmaster is? I need to report what happened.” She yammered until the armored being held up his hand to silence her. “I am not a Jedi, but a searcher for the truth and a disciple of light. You saved my life once on the battlefields of Coruscant. I am here now to ensure your life-saving efforts continue unthwarted with blessings from my order.”

“Oh. Well that is a lot to take in. I cannot say I recognize you in all that armor though. Coruscant you say? I treated a lot of pretty banged up folks there.” Leena’s mind churned. The man seemed sincere enough. But where did he come from? It seemed too coincidental to be a coincidence. “I would welcome your company though mister, master . . . ahhhh, not-Jedi? I guess we’ll be heading off world tomorrow if you want to come with me. I need to go find the Grandmaster though first.”

“Defender Mantis is my name. I would be honored to accompany you. Trust me. They will not even know I am there. Such is the way of the Jensaarai. The Grandmaster is in the great hall, if you were wondering.”

“Oh! Thanks Master, errr, Defender Mantis. I’ll see you soon!” Leena turned and scurried off to find Grandmaster Adenna.

Entering the hall, Leena slowed, trying to maintain a level of decorum. Still, she couldn’t help be nervous. What she had to report was bot exactly good news and she. Really didn’t know the Grandmaster except for by site.

Seeing the leader of their order at the other end of the hall, Leena cautiously cleared her voice with a cough, “Uhhhh. Excuse me Grandmaster? Leena Kil, Jedi Apprentice healer here with a report from Mon Cal. I regret to inform you that things did not go well there. I fear that the world has fallen to the Sith and there may be Jedi captured or dead. The darkness on the world was, well, like nothing I have ever sensed before.” Leena launched into as much detail as she could remember about the ordeal; the hospital explosion, the attack on the refugee compound, the pits, the darkness, the floods, Nia and Mjan and their whole company. By the end tears streamed down her face. “I feel like a failure, worthy and capable of nothing more than serving as an assistant in the chemicalized sterile environments of Jedi healing centers; but Master Sarna has asked me to accompany her to Scarif too. What am I supposed to do?”

On 7/14/2020 at 11:27 AM, The Sarlacc said:

“Brother Svata, it appears that we will be lending our skills to the Jedi right away. I believe that your experiences and particular charm will be of great use to us. Do you happen to have a disguise for a space pirate in those pockets of yours?”

Svata burst out in a belly laugh.

"You know, if I didn't know you better, I'd call that comment speciesist!

Also yes. Probably know a few tricks and some good fake names to go under. Haven't heard about Gorri the Mad Dug in a few years, so I'm guessing he's dead. Can probably ape his signal pattern, maybe scuff up the ship with some scribbles of severed hands, that kind of thing." Svata grinned. "You just let me know how authentic you want it to be. Time was a ryn caravan couldn't pass through Sector R-27 without looking like a band of murderers who just ate a trandoshan slaver for brunch. Lesson one, you can never have enough industrial grade cleaner."

He started towards the ship.

"Enough said."

Kashi listened to the Grandmaster's words, taking to heart her advice and praise. And when the Imperial spoke, he did the same with him. It felt like a lifetime ago when he stood before the Order and recieved the rank of Jedi Knight. And yet, here and now, it felt like only yesterday. It was an odd feeling, but a humbling one. So much had changed in his time away. But perhaps this was the Force's Will. He had to believe it with all his heart.

"I thank you both for the words of wisdom." Kashi stood as he spoke, the Imperial Knight Aidan removing himself. Turning to the Grandmaster, Kashi bowed his head and finished. "I will do my very best to aid the Order that has graciously taken me in. I will go prepare myself as well, as I'm sure the Grandmaster has much to do as well before we depart. May the Force be with us."

With that, Kashi smiled and made his own departure. Heading straight back to his quarters, Kashi geared up and prepared himself, and shortly made his way toward the Meditation Chambers. Opening himself up, he let the Force flow through his form. He closed his mind and let the life around him echo in his mind rather than remember a life that no longer existed for him, even that which he left behind on Iego. He settled his mind on the here and now, absorbing the life that was beginning for him and took it in to remind him that life is what you make of it.

When the hour was up, Kashi was at the transport, awaiting Aidan and Grandmaster Alluyen, a more focused atmosphere surrounding him.
