Korriban

For the first few minutes, all Bryce heard was the whistling of the wind in her ears and the gentle whine of the repulsorlift engine as she coasted from pillar to pillar on the badlands. Her sensors had been placed and all that remained was to get enough distance from the Sith Praxeum before they were triggered. However, even with the ysalamir behind her back protecting her from the watchful eyes of the Sith Lords, the Rebel Talon felt as though some distant, malevolent presence was looking over her shoulder and she kept pausing in her flight to glance behind. Each time, however, there was only heat haze of the clay of the Korriban badlands, the glare of its star, and the wisps of desiccated dust that choked her at each gust of wind.

Pausing once again to scan the horizon for a glimpse of a metallic reflection, Johanna glanced down at a miniature datapad affixed to her left vambrace. With a single press of a button, she could trigger the pulse-wave scanners and map the bulk of the Valley within a few seconds… but the combined energy output of the sensors would likely alert Korriban’s security forces to the presence of malign forces on their world. Johanna closed down the datapad and shook her head. She decided to wait at least until the two Jedi had returned to the U-Wing before triggering the sensors.

The Bespinian blasted away on the speeder bike, this time not sticking to the comparatively stealthy withdrawal at a mere 100 klicks, but at the full roaring 400 kilometers per hour that the loaded vehicle was capable of. Though much faster, the shriek of the repulsor engine would be audible from nearly a kilometer away and the dust cloud swept up by her wake would be visible from an even greater distance. Her eyes glared from side to side, scanning the horizon for familiar landmarks—a many-fanged set of wind-eroded pillars, a shadowy den in the cliffs that she dared not investigate, a boulder that Bryce had used to hide one of her warning bells. The datapad on her arm vibrated firmly, warning her of her own intrusion. She was close

The speckled tan of the U-Wing’s camouflage gradually resolved itself into metallic mechanisms and the gentle fluttering of a camouflage net, and Bryce killed the speeder bike’s engine to coast the rest of the distance to the transport on an unpowered vehicle. A glance into the transport’s cabin revealed that neither Jedi had returned. It was just her.

Johanna muttered a quiet curse.

The Rebel Talon clambered onto the fuselage of the U-Wing transport with her carbine, lay down, and waited for a sign of someone’s approach. Whether she responded with her carbine or her comlink would be determined by whether it was one of the Sith, or one of the Jedi.

The thick air of Korriban’s duisk buffeted Sandy Sarna as she accelerated back to the U-Wing. Her long pale hair flicking mercilessly at her ears. She double clicked the encrypted comm link as she entered the perimeter of the Rebel outpost and pulled her speeder bike up next to the Rebel Officers. She gave her a crisp salute and plugged her datapad into its slot and began to download her data to the ships computer.

“Well that's about done I think. Master Kyrie is right behind me. About time to bug out back to NS?”

She crouched beside the rebel soldier and tentatively reached out with the force to feel if they were being tracked. They were not.

The dust cloud of an approaching speeder bike grew larger as the two Jedi returned to the U-Wing. Peering over the receiver of her carbine, Bryce watched through a set of electrobinoculars, trying to determine whether its riders were friend or foe. Gradually, the image resolved itself out of the heat haze and dust, and the Rebel Talon made out of the image of a tiny Jedi Master with blonde hair--with a Padawan braid. She let out a sigh of relief and stood to wave, her gleaming plastoid silhouette reflecting clearly against the matte surface of the gunship.

By the time that the Jedi had pulled up alongside her speeder, Bryce had climbed down and was hauling her own speeder bike into the shuttle. “Please,” she said, taking the steering vanes of the bike into her gauntlets and bodily hauling the vehicle onto the gunship. “I can’t wait to shake the dust of this blasted world off my boots.”

A few buckles was all that kept the flimsy bikes from bouncing against the walls of the gunship. Bryce stowed the ysalamir at the aft of the passenger compartment in the hopes that at least one of the Jedi would be outside its influence.

Once the ship’s start-up sequence was completed, Johanna tapped in a short sequence into the ship’s console, activating the pulse-wave sensors that had been scattered in the vicinity of the Sith praxeum. The activation of the sensors likely would not go unnoticed--although the scanning sequence would only take a few seconds, it would be impossible to miss the fact that the gravel around its grounds was periodically rattling as though the Valley was experiencing a minor earthquake. That was no major concern, however, for once Bryce lifted the U-Wing off of the planetary surface and kicked in the sublight engines, it was only a matter of minutes before they cleared atmosphere, escaped the planet’s gravity well, and escaped into hyperspace for a five minute microjump. Their next jump would take them the rest of the way home.

By the fourth day, Aziza found herself with limited supply and a shadow of self-doubt that refused to lighten. She trusted her teacher, and he had sent her off-world, ergo there must logically be a way off this dust ball. The shadow, however, whispered that she had failed, that she had gone the wrong direction, that she would die insignificant in the wastes before her journey had barely begun.

As the sun set, she sheltered in the crevice of a rock. There was little point turning around; her only option was to continue in the direction her instincts told her to go. Amadeus had emphasized trusting those instincts, but she was still new to the ways of the Force, and couldn't avoid the concern that this had been too much too fast. As the stars began to come out one by one, however, she took a deep breath. She embraced her fear; it would keep her going. She refused to die out here. She trusted what she had been taught, and that meant she would find a way off--or not. And if that came, it would come.

She slept well, and set off the next morning just as the sky was beginning to turn pink. She rode all day, drinking the last of her water sometime around noon. Fatigue and dehydration combined into a throbbing behind her eyes and at the base of her skull, and she almost didn't notice the winking of silver in the sky above her. Adrenaline shot through her, and she slowed the speeder to a crawl to better verify what her eyes had seen. She grinned. It was certainly a ship in the atmosphere.

She traced the arc of its flight, marking where it landed--in a valley approximately 100 klicks from her current location. Triumphant, she kicked the bike back into gear and sped through the desert.

---

The landing area had turned out to be a small spaceport outside what appeared to be a Sith outpost. The signature on the datapad she had been given was enough to verify her credentials, and bought her passage on a ship--not more than a cargo hauler, but she was grateful for anything.

And so it was that she stood at the viewport, sipping a hydration packet and watching Korriban shrink behind her.

The stealth ship Ghost of Carida, an imperial modified CR-90 corvette, whose entire exterior was covered with signal deadening phrik-isolate reflecting panels to block ambient and directed search signals from the Sith defenders of the planet. The sleek corvette was so harshly redesigned that it was nearly unrecognizable. Dark as night, and a mass of long whip antenna packages that took up most of the entirety of the ships central hull. It was there for a single purpose, to see if the rumours of a new fleet element in the Sith’s arsenal was deployed to this distant system. A sith fleet element that could change the course of the war.

And so the Ghost of Carida sat on the very edge of the system and trained its long antennas and telescopes towards the orbit zones and waited. Its mixed Hapan and Rebel crew slowly eating through their years worth of non perishable rations.

Any time that someone belonging to the Department of Purity arrived in a system, there was a number of things that happened. First, as unfortunate as it was, there would be boot-licking. There was nothing Umbra despised more, and while he made it clear every time that such actions were very much not welcome, it happened nonetheless, and it always soured his mood. The second is that many times, those present at his first stop would warn the rest of the system of his presence. This amused him much more- He enjoyed his job, but he despised when it was easy. He would find the flaws in their defenses, and they would be improved accordingly, and should the problem be egregious enough, punishment would be meted out. The struggling of the fool officers to hide this fact from him is what kept the endless inspections and interviews interesting.

The third was that any rebel sympathizers often made themselves scarce. That was another fun game for him- Hunting rebels who seek to destabilize the Empire he'd devoted so much time to brought him great joy, and the only thing that pleased him more than the hunt was the catch. Watching as the hope drained from their face. Feeling the Force twist around them as he ripped out their souls and put them to use. The irony that such people, so vehemently against the Sith Empire, would serve forever after to further its goals as spirits and ghosts. The irony pleased him greatly.

Unfortunately, he was not omnipotent. The hidden corvette that drifted in system was so small and isolated that even if he'd had stealth detecting equipment and the knowledge that such a vessel was present, it would be nearly impossible to find in the black of space.

During the final minutes of the transition from Nar Shaddaa, Slaughter began composing a letter--not with a datapad, but with an ink-dispensing stylus and flimsi. It was an old-fashioned means of communication, prone to destruction and mishaps in delivery, but it was a medium that could not be easily intercepted or monitored, least of all by the censors that the Admiral suspected that Zinthos had monitoring the Rebel Alliance’s communications traffic. Besides, being surrounded by durasteel bulkheads that were as old as him had placed the Admiral in a traditional state of mind.

A muted chime sounded at his door.

“Enter.” So entered one of the gray-green clad officers of the Imperial contingent of the Rebel Alliance into his stateroom. At least, that was the term for these temporary quarters; the room was barely large enough to accommodate both a cot and his desk. True, that was a magnificent piece of furniture, a vast workspace that Slaughter suspected was at least partially made of real Kashyyyk wroshyr--a luxurious touch not commonly seen after the Clone Wars--but it was tiny compared to his quarters on Fidelity.

“Admiral, five minutes until reversion.” Salute, salute returned.

“Thank you, Lieutenant,” Slaughter muttered as he rose to his feet, neatly folding the flimsi into thirds and tucking the letter into the neck of his tunic. He glanced down at his large fingers, and noted with some dismay that there would be no time to wash off the ink blots that had stained his left hand. That would undoubtedly give the Imperial Knights and their censors something to discuss.

Ten seconds of distance was all that separated his little stateroom from the bridge. Striding onto the bridge of Tripoli, Slaughter announced his presence with terse orders, “Action stations. Set material condition to Zerek throughout the ship. Batteries out of secure standby, load combat mix. Shields to ahead full.” There was no doubt that those orders had already been dispatched by Captain Tavantis--crimson auxiliary lights were already glowing at the floor panels and ceiling--but they came reflexively. Matching orders to action, Slaughter took his position at the tactical pit, hand grasping the encrypted comlink built into its perimeter.

Thirty seconds later, hyperspace retreated to reveal the barren world of Korriban… and the orbital units that were certain to be defending the cultural homeworld of the Sith Empire. Already there was a screen of starfighters and the A-Wing spotters several kilometers in front of the Rebel Alliance fleet, ready to report the damage inflicted by the heavy guns of the artillery cruisers.

Beck kept his eyes focused as the star broke their typical view from hyperspace above the planet Korriban. Beck looked for a moment at his crew as his comm officer began to take a report to confirm that the entire task force given to his command had indeed shown up. Once he got the report, Beck moved himself towards the center of the bridge and looked out. "Might as well make sure that our dear friend, Admiral Slaughter know's his backup is present." The man smiled, as it was almost certain that the admiral knew he was now in system with him. Let's make history today...

Aboard the Xaakzaamhaid, Mandalore the Bloody watched the desert-planet of Korriban spin into view. She had been to the planet countless times, both as a slave and as a loyal Sith servant, but today, to come as an opponenet, to conquer, was different. She was excited, as were her men. They would sell their lives dearly.

Klaxons rang, and Umbra gazed out into the void. He could just make out the Rebel fleet, gathering on the edge of the planet's defenses. They were unexpected, and unwelcome. How they had gathered the troops to srtike at the cultural heart of the Sith was unknown to him, but it didn't matter. It was an excellent way to demonstrate to the defenders of Korriban why his word carried the weight that it did. He was not some shuffling bureaucrat, as he would have been if he had stayed with the Imperials on Onderon. He was Sith, and had the prowess of a Sith, both in single combat and in matters of large scale battles. He leaned forward, opening a line of communication with the Rebel ships.

"Welcome to Korriban, my dear friends! Whilst I did not expect your visit, you are more than welcome to tour our defenses, and to throw yourselves helplessly against them. Or, if you'd like, while it is short notice I could likely secure you personal accommodations on the planet's surface. Regardless, I assure you, while we were not expecting your visit, we are more than prepared."

He stepped away- what he had present here would not suffice. He would need reinforcements. He opened his SCI, and sent a simple, but urgent message. Any who saw it would respond, he was sure.

Rebels at Korriban. Local garrison insufficient. Send reinforcements immediately.

The Phantom's Spear dropped into a familiar orbit, the sublight engines hummed and droned. The Harrower felt so at home at Korriban, with its ancient devotion to the Sith continuing in the modern era. The dedication of the vessel matched only by the crews under Harris' watchful eye. They were a little late to the party, however, being among the last few Imperial vessels to arrive.

Tyra's fleet joined in the formation, though the Eye of Sagittarius hung back, the massive maelstrom cannons nearly drooling in anticipation for their chance to wreak havoc on the rebel fleet.

Project Apophis (Capital ship): Lord of Chaos

Green: A relic ship created to sow confusion and madness among the enemies of the Sith, the Apophis can turn brother upon brother through a torrent of illusions and saturated Dark Side illusions. The TF controller can either choose one enemy TF to attack another, or cause the crew to turn upon itself in frenzied violence for six points of damage. In both instances, the attacks ignore escorts. The frenzied violence is delivered with such urgency that the TF still has time to perform its intended attack that round.

Veteran: Alternatively, the Apophis can manipulate one enemy non flagship TF into protecting it for a round. It can only do this to an enemy TF that is attacking it, which gains the Escort trait and immediately attaches to the Apophis. The manipulated task force still makes its attack against the Apophis, treating it as unescorted, but other attackers must contend with the escort as per normal rules. This ability resolves at normal speed, and cannot be used on artillery.

Elite: Starfighter actions used to damage the Apophis are replicated in the same turn targeting their home carrier TF, or in the case of the free starfighter action, a TF of the Apophis’s choosing.

________

After hours of hounding freight traffic, the Sith had finally come out to protect their cultural homeworld. Having maintained a battle formation throughout their harassments of freighters and barges, the Rebel Alliance was not caught off guard--it simply vectored to face the predicted response and maneuvered to close in. Xaakzaamheid and Nat'ah, built like ancient men-of-war with their armored prows, led the engagement, soon closing in on elements of the Sith fleet and engaging at close quarters in an attempt to catch Goliath in a pincer action.

The artillery cruiser was an unusual hull to command a battle from. Despite the tremendous mass of the refitted Dreadnaught-class Heavy Cruiser, the ancient ship bucked as though its sublights had just accelerated to full throttle with every firing of its great guns. In fact, that was exactly what happened; with every salvo, station-keeping thrusters fired in order to keep Tripoli from shifting from the recoil of its oversized cannons. But it was more than the feel of the hull under his boots; the commander's displays were optimized for directing fire, not overall command of the field. Reams of calculations continually updated on the holoprojectors... but the resolution of the holograms left much to be desired. At least, it was easier to blame the technical limitations of the holoprojectors than his own mind, because it almost appeared as though one of the Mandalorian Battleships had sidled up alongside a Sith battlecruiser of unfamiliar design, almost as though in escort formation.

"Comms; signal Nat'ah." Slaughter stabbed at the icon as though poking it with one of his fingers could prod back into formation. "What in the nine hells do they think they're doing? They're interfering with our firing solutions. "

Static, garbled transmissions, confused background noise was the answer.

"I see. Get a signal off to the Jedi when this damned interference lets up. New secondary objective; destroy that ship. It is not allowed to leave this system alive."

______

“Admiral, fires reported on decks four through nine. Damage control indicates that they will not be able to control the spread without crew from the guns” A younger officer with a ghastly facial scar shouted from across the bridge. Slaughter opened his mouth, ready to give instructions on the target for what would likely be Tripoli’s final volley--

--and then the lights of the bridge darkened. Even the auxiliary lights flickered and died, bathing the entire bridge in perfect darkness. Even artificial gravity failed, and Slaughter forced his body from drifting off the deckplates by pulling himself into the rails surrounding the tactical pit. The only remaining light cast was from some of the newfangled “smart” micropads that some of the younger officers wore on their wrists in spite of regulations. The great guns of the cruiser, for the first time in this battle, fell silent.

And then all at once, a heavy ka-chunk reverberated through the hull as the emergency generators kicked in--the crimson emergency lights illuminated the edges of the bridge and its many terminals--and several crew yelped in surprise and pain as their drifting bodies collapsed to the deckplates and less comfortable surfaces when gravity reasserted itself.

Thank you, Captain Pullings. Signal all decks, abandon ship. Repeat, abandon ship. She’s given us all she can. Pullings--help me with Carik.”

The Zeltron Master Gunner, having landed on her control terminal with her leg at an unfortunate angle, was staring at a shin that was protruding through her uniform. Even though her face was almost as white as the bone, the red-skinned humanoid refused to utter a sound at the incredible pain that she must have been experiencing. At least until the middle-aged Admiral and his flag-captain grabbed the gunner by the shoulders and hauled her to stand on one foot. Even then she only shrieked a single curse.

“Admiral transferring to Azincourt.” Slaughter keyed his personal comlink, even though he knew it was unlikely that the transmission would be able to punch through the interference from an exposed hypermatter generator. The deckplates continued to shudder under the weight of secondary explosions even as the three officers limped towards his personal shuttle.

The vacuum was crowded with escape pods and shuttlecraft after the LAAT/i escaped the hangar. One of the twin-hulled Nebulons--or a Zebulon, Slaughter couldn’t distinguish the two frigates at range--was already on station, hauling escape pods to safety with her tractor beams. However, Slaughter’s destination would not be the medical frigate. With a sharp turn that threw two of his deck officers against the wall of the shuttle and inspired a fit of cursing from the Zeltron Gunner, the LAAT/i veered towards a Quasar Fire-class cruiser whose hull was alight with the glow of dozens of starfighters....

______

A titanic explosion was visible in the Sith formation, but at the same time, a terrible confluence of enemy fire struck at the Mandalorian contingent. Slaughter winced as he witnessed hundreds of tiny pinpricks of light surrounding their ships, but the two Mandalorian battleships still appeared operational--and Nat’ah was still continuing to empty her magazines into the great bulk of the unfamiliar Sith battlecruiser. Squinting through the pilot’s canopy as Azincourt began to obscure his view, Slaughter seized the pilot’s comlink to relay his orders...

Azincourt, Azincourt, this is Slaughter. Confirmation code…” the middle-aged Admiral rattled off a string of digits prior to growling a set of complicated maneuvers.

The triangular-shaped cruiser was still a few kilometers away, but there was such a stream of buzzing starfighters surrounding its position that, for the first time in about a week, Slaughter felt as though he was safe. At least he would be back aboard a Republic vessel again.

(Posting OpFor for Sith defending forces)

Darth Xervatus looked out from the balcony over the Valley of the Dark Lords. Built into the valley itself, the Praxeum of the Unholy Dominion appeared to the casual glance to be an immortal part of the ancient landscape, a fixture as old as the world itself, and as timeless as the setting sun that cast shadows through the desolate valley.

But appearances were deceiving. The Praxeum was a far more recent construction, the ambition of Dark Lord Exodus, and one of the jewels of his ascendant Sith Empire. The three pyramids might look as ancient as the tombs around them, but each was constructed with the best modern materials that could be bought with the riches of the Spider's conquests.

That Empire was crumbling around them. The Praxeum, once alive with new students, personnel, and Sith Lords, now boasted only a skeleton crew. The Home Guard, loyal as they were, remained, but even their elite forces were paltry compared to the legions the planet had once commanded. The Sith Empire was at an end. Some Sith denied it. Most of those were dead now. Many more accepted it, and abandoned the stronghold rather than face the rebuke the new Galactic Alliance was no doubt preparing for the rapacious warlords.

And Darth Xervatus?

Xervatus remained. Xervatus understood.

He was not a powerful Sith. The Force had never flowed strongly for him. In many ways that had been a blessing. The old human had been left out of the powerplays and scheming of the more ambitious upstarts, left to his own devices and free to study the wealth of knowledge and lore that made its way to the Praxeum. If someone looked at him, they'd seen a withered, emaciated creature, maybe in his ninetieth year of life. In truth, Xervatus was only 47. Dark Side corruption visited its practioners in different ways, and in differing intensities. It had seemingly crippled Xervatus, while giving him little power in return.

It was why so many Sith underestimated how dangerous the old man really was. Yes, appearance were deceiving.

Unfortunately, it was his appearance that held him back, kept him from joining the flight. He was weak, a shell so dependent on the dark energies of Korriban that to leave would surely spell his death, as certain as a blaster bolt or the thrust of a lightsaber. And so he remained. But he had not given up. He would fight. He would press on. He would survive.

The Praxeum was the true stronghold of Korriban now. Other settlements and cities existed, but it was the Praxeum that would mark the planet's fall. Even with a skeleton crew, it was solid and defensible position. The Sith Steel reinforced pyramids were only the surface level of a the larger construction that stretched over a hundred feet beneath the surface. And then there was the valley itself. The cliff faces to either side limited the angles of orbital bombardment, and the point-defense cannons, turbolasers, and ion cannon batteries positioned around the pyramids ensured that any fightercraft that got too close would be in for a rough flight to drop any troops or payloads. But the real threat was the missile batteries. Loaded with surface-to-space proton torpedoes and concussion missiles. the Praxeum could fire on orbiting ships and ensure anyone who occupied the skies above it did so at a heavy price. Unfortunately, the ammunition to do so was limited, as several enterprising Sith had looted the armory before disappearing to parts unknown.

But the real threat to the Praxeum was a ground assault. The place had been built with the understanding that it would maintain a large standing force, both drawn from its Home Guard and from garrisons around the planet. Only the most loyal or fanatical troops remained, and while they were among the best Korriban had to offer they were still far too few to mount an indefinite defense.

No, no matter what happened, the Praxeum was doomed to fall. The only question was when...and how much could be saved and hidden away for future use.

While other Sith saw the fall of the Sith Empire and ran, Xervatus knew history.

The Sith always rose again.

  • 1 month later...

After a final hyperspace jump to realign the fleet with its re-entry vector and to tighten up its formation, the Third Fleet of the Galactic Alliance appeared above the Sith fortress-world of Korriban. Though the planet was little more than a brown pearl at the range that the MC90 cruiser Fidelity and Nebula-class Star Destroyer Benediction appeared at, every planetary sensor had to be screaming at the sudden arrival of the hostile fleet and dozens of starfighters.

The fleet’s A-Wings, as usual, led the advance towards the planet, streaking downwards and relying on their prodigious speed and sensor jammers to reconnoiter hostile positions. They would begin an irritating operation of harassing potential Sith positions, approaching just close enough to risk provoking a response from interceptors and ground batteries–only to retreat to the safety of the fleet’s fighter screen. All the meanwhile,  the fleet lumbered forward in a steady orbit that would eventually place it in a position to bombard the Valley of the Dark Lords.

On the bridge of Fidelity, Admiral Slaughter quietly watched the progression of his task force at his tactical pit and fretted. He had actually begun to bite his fingernails out of nerves, a substitution for his habit of pacing and stalking about the tactical holographs. He knew that his task force could withstand a pounding from the batteries that his intelligence had identified–Fidelity’s reputation for toughness was legendary throughout the fleet and Benediction was little more than a hulk that had been gutted for hangar space–but the success of his attack depended wholly on a couple hundred brave volunteers whose survival was contingent on him being a very attractive target.

“Comms, get me an open channel. I want everyone in system to hear this.” Slaughter grimaced and sent his voice into a lower register, the war-weathered growl that was his image.

“Lords of Korriban,” his growl rasped in the back of his throat.. “Your attack on Nar Shaddaa has failed. The allied coalition lives. Your fleet was dealt a mortal blow. No help is coming. Systems across the galaxy are declaring for the Galactic Alliance. No help is coming.

“The Galactic Alliance gives you this chance to end your war. You are to surrender your positions and disable your arms. We will take that as indication that you wish to save yourselves. If you fail to do so, then your outcome is inevitable.”

Slaughter sighed and downed a canteen of water the moment that the transmission was cut off. That had been as much a performance as it had been a declaration of intent. Being the bloody-handed officer whose arrival promised violence was an essential part of the plan. With any luck, the Korriban garrisons would soon launch their first fires, and the conquest of the Sith homeworld would begin.

Before departing Ylesia, Sanguis had been introduced to Captain Byrce, the lead of the Alliance's Force meant to liberate the world of Korriban from the darkened grasp of the millennia old Sith Empire that had held sway over it throughout time. But Sanguis wasn't the Jedi that she had likely hoped he was. For he was new to war, and as such, held very little knowledge or content for it. With a bow of his head, the two had departed the Admiral before entering hyperspace.

"Forgive me, Captain, but my enthusiasm for the upcoming battle doesn't quite match your own, nor that of your men." He had spoken in return to her own words as the klaxons resounded their departure. Allowing the shift of acceleration, he took a breath and continued. "My mission here is simple. Enforce the war efforts and end the conflict with as little loss of life as possible while representing the Jedi Order's position."

Silence would loom over the two as much as possible during their trek toward the assault shuttles as Sanguis kept the chatter to a minimum. He knew his words would likely come off naively with a hint of arrogance, but he had yet to settle himself into a semblance of what he was tasked with. He still stood on the precipice of righteousness and reality, unsure and ignorant of the part he would play.

Settling in as Captain Bryce, her men, and the others prepared for what laid ahead, his nerves grew more edged with each resounding of exit and reentry of their tactical jumps, a relieved sigh exhaled when reentry took place. It was nerve racking to say the least, but Korriban would signal the point of no return. And eventually, it would come, and the nerves would become vomit.

Wiping his mouth as the Admiral's words echoed throughout the ship, Sanguis listened attentively as the words presented their intent as much as their reluctance. With his stomach in knots, he would await the reply along with the others. He hoped for a peaceful resolution, but knew there would be none. Turning to Captain Bryce, he final broke his silence.

"The Admiral is a blunt man of few words." He spoke, the nerves he fought resounding in his trembled words. "Hopefully the remaining Sith will see to reason. I am not looking forward to this fight."

Later, Ruin left the armory, examining the mounted tube on his wrist. It certainly was a little odd-looking, and one could follow the tube to Ruin’s backside where the canister was mounted. But if the Toydarian was correct, the ‘sticky’ flames that would come out of the canister would be about 5000 degrees. More than enough to set sith on fire.

Again, the two found themselves following the imperial Agent who had spoken earlier. Approaching him, Ruin nodded.

“Huntings and seekings, seekings and huntings” Ruin greeted the agent.

>Greetings Agent Orin. this is B-5 87, designated as RUIN. I am Fera. Ruin is expressing eagerness for this mission<

Ruin nodded as Fera translated for him.

“Hunt Sith. Kill Sith. Rip and tear and burn and bash. Heart of Hell.”

Fera continued. >Since his programming states to kill Sith and their active sympathizers, he is eager to, as you would say, attack the heart of Sith culture.<

Talyn looked on, listening as the mighty war droid R.U.I.N joined him and the others heading towards the shuttles. He admired his enthusiasm to destroy their enemies but hoped he remembered to distinguish between the Order and the natives. He also decided to rectify at least one more thing before he would depart for the shuttles.

"I see, so you are the two I heard about. Quite a strange combination, you shall have to tell me how you both came to be together if we live through this. I hope he can distinguish between the native Tsis and the Sith of the Order and Sith Empire. Tell him to designate any red skinned humanoid he see's as a non-hostile, the native Tsis are red skinned you see and to not destroy the culture. The culture is important to the locals, we need it intact if diplomacy is to be attempted. That said The Academy, the Tombs, the space port and surrounding area is free game. Looks like things are gearing up, best we get below and be ready to start this thing proper."

Once he was done, he heard the words of Admiral Slaughter. It appeared the fight for Korriban would soon begin, he doubted the Sith would listen and give up, they would never give up willingly that which they thought belonged to them. He spoke to the Jedi Knight as he heard his words.

"It is unlikely they will I am afraid. The Sith are not known to willingly give up what they think is theirs, especially a place they consider to be of such value. I expect a fight for every inch of the sand...sad as it is. But unfortunately it is in their nature, just like how you chose the moral way of doing things. I don't think any of us are looking forward to this, but we must do what must be done for the greater good of the galaxy."

(Opfor)

On 10/1/2022 at 10:57 PM, Sgt. Slaughter said:

“Lords of Korriban,” his growl rasped in the back of his throat.. “Your attack on Nar Shaddaa has failed. The allied coalition lives. Your fleet was dealt a mortal blow. No help is coming. Systems across the galaxy are declaring for the Galactic Alliance. No help is coming.

“The Galactic Alliance gives you this chance to end your war. You are to surrender your positions and disable your arms. We will take that as indication that you wish to save yourselves. If you fail to do so, then your outcome is inevitable.”

Darth Xervatus sighed, the sound calling to mind the faint hiss of an old engine slowing to a halt for the last time.

They were here earlier than expected. In a way, it was as much relieving as it was concerning. Now, Xervatus and what was left of the Home Guard were committed. No running. Still, for them to arrive this quickly, and in this kind of force...there was a unity here that marked the change in the galaxy. A new dawn was rising, and the Praxeum was one of the last shadows to be banished under its glare.

"Commander," he spoke into his comm, "patch me through on an open channel." There was silence, and then a soft beep that signaled the Home Guard commander had followed orders.

"My apologies officer, but if you've come here for the surrender of the Lords of Korriban, I'm afraid you're too late." Xervatus smiled humorlessly. "They are either dead or fled. But if you'll indulge an old man, allow me to give you what welcome we can."

Xervatus switched the comm back to a private channel with the Home Guard commander. "Commander, commence the bombardment. Hit anything that starts to descend. Otherwise, focus on the biggest ship they have. Keep our firing intervals random. We're not trying to destroy them, just make them think twice about sending down troop transports for a while. We need more time."

It was a testament to the fanatic loyalty of the Home Guard that their commander did not question Darth Xervatus' orders. Then again, if a Sith like Exodus was going to instill loyalty in someone, he wasn't going to take half-measures. Xervatus wondered if the Home Guard would blow his own head off if he asked him to. An idle curiousity to test when the battle was lost.

"Excavation team," he said, switching to another channel as he went inside, "give me an update on your progress."

A cluster of concussion missiles arced out of the firing emplacements set into the cliffs around the pyramids. This first salvo soared up into the sky, through the clouds, and into orbit, each warhead rocketing towards the Fidelity.

The battle had begun.

Ruin and Fera listened to the agent’s words about restraint and target locations. Ruin nodded and seemed to understand. When the agent left, Ruin followed, albeit slowly. It was then when the ship began to shudder as the bombardment began from below the surface.

“Bombings and stompings” Ruin commented.

>Indeed, it seems the attack has begun< Fera agreed. >Locating nearest pod<

Ruin followed the agent and looked at the Jedi and the Agent and made a fist with one hand and pretended to crack his knuckles like some kind of human soldier.

“Rip and tear. Kill Sith. Not Tsis. Fly or fry.”

With that, Ruin left the group, letting them find their own way. If they followed him, he would not stop them. If they tried to stop him, he would ignore them. His mission was now.

The nearest ‘pod’ that Fera led Ruin to was an escape pod. With people manning their battle stations, no one was keeping watch over it. It was a perfect ‘vessel’ that Ruin seemed to enjoy employing. Indeed, his record from his attack on Outer Heaven showed as much.

The escape pod was secure and locked, but Fera, ever diligent, quickly cut into one of the panels and hotwired the door. Once inside, Ruin placed himself near the pod’s rear, grabbing the ceiling and locking all of his joints. Fera, knowing what was needed, crawled to the controls. With some computer slicing that made an astromech look obsolete, the pod closed its doors and launched itself towards the red planet below.

Ruin was starting to laugh as the pod picked up speed. “Guts and guns! Guts and guns and guts and guns!”

>coordinates plotted for the pod< Fera notified as the pod slowly altered its trajectory. >Target destination is a bombardment cannon located nearby the ‘tombs’ as the Agent described them. ETA 1 minute.<

The pod began to shake violently as it passed through the clouds, picking up even more speed. No longer altering its trajectory, the pod was utilizing its engines solely for speed.

“Rip and tear. Guts and guns. Hell’s heart, stabbings for thee!” Ruin shouted, laughing now, even as missiles passed almost inches from the escape pod hurtling towards the planet.

>45 seconds to impact> Fera updated. >Once again, my long range communications is linked with the ships above. 30 seconds to impact. Ground forces will hopefully think we are an incoming missile that will miss its target. 20 seconds to impact…<

All the way, Ruin laughed. Here he was, at the cultural heart of the Sith empire, fulfilling his programming.
