Ex Astris Scientia

Silver pin pricks of light

Shining like diamonds

Intermittently on a raven background.

So many possibilities in each

A new planet

A new race

A new way of life.

Each unique unto its own.

Infinite diversity.

Infinite combinations.

Why can't we be as accepting

Stars don't discriminate against other stars.

Each gives equal opportunity to life.

For from the stars...

Knowlege comes...

Thanks.

It means, "From the stars, knowledge."

And this was something that I wrote in Middle School (8th grade year). I came across my old stuff and thought that I'd post it.

((I don't own anything. The Lord of the Rings stuff is all belonging to the Tolkien Estate. Not me.))

The Battle of Pelennor Fields

Riding forth like the wind on a tall-grass meadow,

Tall Théoden, Proud King of the Mark,

Golden shield shining as the sun,

Clears the Storm of Mordor.

'Arise, arise, Rider's of Théoden!

Fell deeds awake: fire and slaughter!

Spears shall be shaken, shield shall be splintered,

A Sword-day, a Red-day, ere the sun rises!

Ride now, ride now! Ride to Gondor!'

Great horn blowing, the Darkness lifted,

The King rides forth to battle,

His army follows. Hail! The long-awaited Knights of the Rohirrim!

Forefather's fury runs, the brave king rides,

Darkness removed, the Enemy waits,

And singing, the Fair Men kill foul orc, troll and fyelminotma.

But lo! A Shadow comes!

The Captain of the Dark Lord.

Once a Mortal Man,

One of the Nine to receive the Rings from the Lord of Mordor,

Now a Shadow, a Ringwraith, the Lord of the Nazgûl.

The Shadow returns now to the Fields,

And the Nazgûl Lord dove from his winged mount.

Brave Knights of Rohan soon lay slain all about Théoden,

But the King was not forsaken,

Young Derhelm strong, alone comes to his aid.

The Dark one dives, the Valiant King falls,

Young Derhelm sheds his helm.

Nay a man, but lo! A Woman sits tall in the saddle.

Tis the King's sister-daughter, Éowen the Fair.

In brave defiance, she rides toward the Fiend.

The Lord of the Nazgûl felt the sting of her blade.

No pain had he felt from any living thing,

For no Mortal Man could cause him harm.

Again the Evil One dove upon his prey.

The Lady blacked his deathly blow,

At the cost of her own shield arm.

The Nazgûl Lord wielded a black mace kill,

His arm poised ready for the deed.

Deathblow never falling,

The Wraith cries out in pain.

For again he feels the bite of steel.

The Fallen king's own esquire,

Meriadoc of the Shire, a halfling.

And thus the Great Lord of Wraiths,

Became the Goliath of old,

Meriadoc, the Hobbit, as his bane.

And thus, the Battle of Pelennor Field was at and end,

And the ultimate demise of the Dark Lord of Mordor,

The Evil Lord Sauron...

((On a side note: This was originally supposed to be a 10-line minimum for an English Assignment (10th grade/Sophomore). The teacher made the mistake of assigning this just shortly after I'd read the chapter "The Battle of Pelennor Fields". It was front and back and a third of another page.))

((:oops:Oops...didn't realize that I'd posted those before...I did to a search to make sure that this one and others that I've done haven't been posted previously...It was in the Poet's Corner Thread.))

Disclaimer: I don't own any of the characters of Harry Potter.

The Price of Betrayal

The screams of the tormented permeate the very walls,

Cries of madmen shatter the eerie stillness of the passages,

Hooded creatures glide about,

Feeding on the torment of their prisoners,

No happiness in this place, for all has been drained.

I am the lone one,

Saner than the rest,

I am innocent,

I do not belong in this torturous purgatory,

I am innocent.

All happy memories gone,

Only pain, sadness and suffering remain.

Demons lurk at every door,

But I keep my mind.

I am innocent,

Knowing of my innocence is not a happy thought,

They can't take it from me.

I am innocent.

Twelve long years....

I will find him.

He that I was put here in his place,

Then it will be his turn to suffer.

I am innocent.

Prongs and his doe,

It's my fault your young buck will never know you,

And for that I am sorry...

I...am...innocent....

((Told from Sirius's POV, kind of. Again something written while in High School.))

Nice stuff! I like that last one. I think I would have said "knowledge of my innocence is not a happy thought" instead of "knowing", but that's probably just my opinion. The only other line that was awkward was "He that I was put here in his place". I had to read that a few times.

But amazing for something you wrote in high school, and overall a GREAT poem. Nice POV, everything.

First Love

First love set away

Until another day, another life.

Why was it so easy for one,

Hard on the other to see the new so happy.

New friendship bonds, maybe more.

Still stuck on what we had, so confused.

Wanting more, but still afraid.

Not ready to let go.

Still needed, still wanted.

Times and feelings must change.

Hard to be happy when I feel so torn.

Unfair to the new.

Seeing the new of first love accepted,

Adopted.

Pain follows and cuts.

Was I ever worth their praise?

First love bliss brings first love pain.

Never again to be whole.

Still caring for you though it hurts inside.

First love I will never let go.

First love will I ever let go...

Basically the guy that I was with (and we were planning to marry), met this other chick and decided to go with her.

Another nice poem, Xae. I didn't like it as much as your other ones in this thread, but it was still nicely written and expressive.

It's funny how we can feel so strongly about something like this, then move on and realize that our feelings weren't actually like that.

((Again...during my depression era, the fall before my return to the land of the jnet.))

My heart breaks to see them so close.

I was once where she was.

I know I have to let him go.

It hurts.

Heart constricting as he makes her smile and laugh.

I care for both.

Guilty for my loneliness,

Worried for my jealousy.

Lost and so alone,

Even though they are with me.

Who am I to damper their happiness,

With my melancholy longing?

A very interesting poem to say the least. I really liked it! You're not the only one to feel this way either. I'm sad to say that I've felt that way before. What can you do? We're only human.
