"My name is Kel Koon. i have come here hoping to join the ranks of the Jedi. and this is my droid R5-N7." The purple and white painted droid beeps in greeting to the jedi master. "R-5, be nice." the astromech then makes more beeping noises. "No i don't care about the size of his head. He's a Jedi master and he deserves respect." Kel Koon scolded.

"He was a Baran Do sage. They used the force to predict the weather and natural disasters. In time, they developed the ability to see visions of the future. they became valuable advisers and prevented many wars and catastrophes. Although as the Jedi grew, their numbers dwindled. They've become obscure. I heard people call him an eccentric wizard more than once."

"No, that was the general attitude towards the sages. What I mean, is that the sages were all considered a little strange. As for your other question, you could say I do. but i don't want to stop at being a sage. I want to surpass him. Someday, i want to be a Jedi master." Kel Koon said.

  • 2 weeks later...

"Thank you, Jalavi, was it? it's nice to know i'm not the only new arrival here. i look forward to working with you. and to breakfast." Kel Koon said. he then tentatively takes hold of the offered garments. "Would you give me a moment to change? I promise it won't take but a minute." Kel asked.

  • 1 month later...

Kel Koon quietly sat with the other padawans and did as instructed. when he closed his eyes he heard not only the inner workings of his own body, but also the breathing of all the other padawans in the room. breathing the very air that was hazardous to his own people. The air that his mask filtered.

Then his consciousness drifted and he felt the air in the sky above the temple. from there, he saw dark clouds coming, no doubt a storm was heading in the temples direction. and judging from the distance and wind speed, it would be here in a day or two.

when he opened his eyes again, he saw the other padawans still meditating. he felt that it would be rude to interrupt, so he patiently waited until each of them were ready.

'Well, they've certainly caused a commotion. of course that's my kind of crowd. i think i'll go introduce myself.'

and so, the kel doran departed from the group meditation to acquaint himself with the new arrivals. "Well this an interesting sight. a walking tree, and a girl who look as though she's recently emerged from a Bacta tank." Kel koon said while approaching the two of them "The name's Kel Koon. Welcome to felucia."

"You are welcome Knight Sarna." Kel koon said taking note of her numerous scars. the blonde haired girl had obviously been afflicted a great deal of pain in the past. He wasn't sure what a mind walker was, but he felt that the neti was someone he could trust. Kel also noted Frond's odd way of speaking backwards. he had heard many dialects on his home world of Doran, and while frond was not at all difficult to understand, it was still strange to his ears. 'Frond said that Sarna had traveled beyond shadows. what did he mean by that? did she return from a place that was strong in the dark side of he force? or was it something else. shadows...he couldn't mean the afterlife could he? was such a feat even possible?

as they rode the turbo lift toward the atrium he once again took notice of the numerous paintings and tapestries adorning the pillars and walls. Kel had yet to encounter anyone of frond's nature before. he made a mental note to spend some time in the archive to study the various peoples and their customs in the future. Frond's ability to change his shape at will had greatly intrigued him.

"As i told Master Pulthar, I came to felucia to become a Jedi after my grandfather passed away. He was a sage of the baran do, and while i did study their ways for a time, I wanted to be something more. So i sought out the Jedi, hoping to join them. I know that Jedi training usually starts at a younger age, but the master was very encouraging. i hope that someday, that I can become a master like him. What about you Sarna? why did you become a Jedi?" Kel asked.

"In the simplest terms, you could say that the sages predicted the weather. before we developed machines for that task, the sages were instrumental in preventing casualties in natural disasters. Just this morning I myself predicted a storm would be coming in a day or so. of course with the rise of machinery, the sages developed the ability to peer into the future. because of this they became valuable political advisers and prevented many wars in their time. However when our people joined the republic and came in contact with the Jedi, their numbers dwindled and they faded into obscurity. the knowledge of the force that the Jedi have at their disposal far surpasses that of the sages. All i can offer You lady knight, is my pledge to serve the Jedi to the best of my ability. It would be an honor to undertake your tutelage." The kel doran then clasped his hands together and bowed before the Jedi knight.

Though no one could tell for his protective goggles, kel had done as Sarna had instructed and closed his eyes. He then sat on the ground and held out his left hand toward the rock. The kel doran felt the force around him like a gust of wind urging him to continue ever onward. but rather than resisting its push, he imagined he was moving with it. he felt the air surrounding the rock and through it the rock begin to move. the rock floated away from its place in the soil and slowly made its way towards the young Kel Doran's grasp. when it reached the palm of his hand he felt a rush of information flooding into his mind. he could see Ossus as it was many cycles ago. along with the numerous wars that had ravaged the planet nearly to its destruction. the visions had his head reeling and he lost his concentration, dropping the rock.

"Aw, druk. I thought I was close to. I guess even rocks have things they don't want dug up." Kel lamented. in hindsight Kel thought he had tried to much to soon. he believed that a desire for knowledge was all well and good. but he had to start pacing himself if he wanted to avoid making mistakes like that again.

Kel stifled his amusement at frond's display. Normally he would laugh and come up with some witty remark. But given the results of his earlier attempt and Frond's attempt at giving advice, cryptic as it was. He returned his attention to the task at hand. 'this is very different from predicting the weather. I need to stop thinking like a sage, and start thinking like a Jedi.' Kel began concentrating on the force again. He expanded his presence beyond the air. he could feel the ground beneath him, the water that Sarna had crossed earlier. he felt Sarna an the rock in her hand. 'the force isn't a tool to be used. i am a conduit through which it flows.' and so the rock levitated from the blonde Jedi's hand and in to his own.

Kel koon once again extended his left hand towards the object he was attempting to probe with the force. The sycthe like design of the Parang was similar to that of a farming tool, but it had since been modified for the purpose of flying through the air and returning to its wielder like a boomerang. Despite being a weapon used by the Sith, he had to admire the simplicity, effectiveness, and utility of the design. Kel's presence surrounded the weapon like the air that it so desperately wished to soar through once again. The weapon had not seen use since leaving the service of its former master. With a bit more coaxing via the force on Kel's part, the parang yielded the information it held.

The visions took him to the swamp world of Nal Hutta. the Parang, in possession of its former crimson skinned, Massassi master. Sarna ignited her light sabre and it emitted a bright white light. She made the first attack against the sith lord by sending a large amount of debris at her opponent. the sith lord leapt into the air to dodge and ignited his red light sabre. the sith then used the same telekinetic ability that she had used as if to mock her and provide a make shift defense against the glass shards in the ground. Despite this, several shards still pierced through his armor and into his body. The Sith seemed to relish in the pain and his assault while complaining of her rudeness in attacking him unprovoked. Though the Sith admitted his only reason for coming to this planet was in order to kill a Jedi for his master.

Upon hearing this, Sarna laughed at the Sith lord's logic. Kel had to agree with Sarna. If she hadn't attacked first, then surely the Sith lord would have. the Sith lord then blasted Sarna with a concussive force blast that sent her flying. The attack had no doubt caused massive trauma and broke a few bones from the way she screamed out in pain. In additition she lost a number of items on her person, including a vibrobayonet. When she got up she returned the favor by using the force to have the glass shards stuck in his armor and body to drive them deeper inside hoping o wear him down with the pain they would cause.

The Sith lord's bright yellow eyes changed to a the same deep black color as the blood that was oozing from his wounds. He laughed at the pain Sarna's tactic had caused and how inferior it was compared to what he had already experienced. then he started spouting rhetoric about how the galaxy was corrupt and that he and Sith would cut out the rot and bring about change with their empire. As the battle between the two of them reached it's peak, Sarna used the force to retrieve the discarded bayonet in a last ditch effort to defeat her opponent which thankfully paid off. the sith lord was then knocked out by a swift kick from Sarna.

When the vision ended, Kel used the force to lift the Parang as Sarna had instructed. "And people back home called me crazy. Your injuries from that fight were severe. was that the reason you wound up here?" Kel asked.

As Kel watched frond struggle with the lightsabre, he began to worry that the neti would make the mistake that Kel himself had made previously with the rock exercise. his suspicions proved to be worse than he had feared when frond cried out in rage and ignited the sabre. Kel began to panic at the site of the normally calm Frond losing any semblance of control. Thankfully Sarna had made it in time to retrieve the light sabre from frond's hand before any serious harm was caused. Then Kel felt Sarna's presence in the force enveloping the both of them. the knight her self didn't say anything, but He could feel her reassuring them, like a parent comforting a frightened child. when frond seemed to have calmed down, he dropped the light sabre and it fell to the ground.

Frond feared he had failed, but Sarna said that he had not. she spoke about the darkness being our enemy and how it was our duty as Jedi to fight against it and the Sith. After witnessing the Sith's brutality in his vision of Sarna's battle, he Shuddered at the thought of leaving them unchecked. Kel believed that the Sith would only cause further imbalance if they were left to their own devices. and after seeing how the darkside had affected Frond, he made a silent vow that he would not allow himself or anyone he knew, to succumb to its wicked grasp.

"I don't know if this helps Frond, but when I tried to lift the rock again, I thought to myself, that i had to stop thinking like a sage, and start thinking like a Jedi. I don't know if this could apply to you being a mind walker and all, But you only fail if you stop trying. Does that make any sense?" Kel asked.

Kel watched as frond had yet again turned himself into a tree. perhaps he felt closest to the force while he was in that form? Still, he felt that the Neti had found his balance along with something else. Gratitude? Perhaps Frond had taken his words to heart. Kel felt at ease believing that he had helped his fellow disciple even if it was only in a small way.

Sarna used the force to levitate two light sabre hilts into her hand she explained that they were training sabres and warned us not to look directly at the emitter likely to keep us from blinding ourselves. she handed kel the shorter of the two sabres. the hand and a half long hilt rested in Kel's four fingered hand. the weight of the sabre was heavier than the parang he had examined earlier. if he were to compare it to something else it was roughly the same weight as some of the tools he used to maintain his ship. the metallic surface of the hilt felt comfortably familiar to him. he could feel the numerous auras of the jedi that had used it in the past. the hilt had significantly less scratches on it than the one that was handed to Frond. since the sabre was shorter and likely wielded with one hand, the chances of hitting it were likely less than the chances of hitting Frond's longer hilt. he pressed a button on the sabre and a bright green blade sprouted from the emitter. the blade was roughly three and a half feet in length but, he felt no weight from it at all. not even a kick from the hilt like a blaster would when it was fired. the glow that the sabre reflected off of his goggles as he stared at it. the hum that the sabre gave off felt pleasing to his ears like the hum of his ships engines. the hum grew louder as he moved it along with the hilt in his hand.

When he saw frond ignite his own light sabre he saw that the neti was much calmer this time and equally fascinated with the light sabre as Kel was. Frond then looked to Sarna confused as to how he could bring balance to the force through violence. So Kel offered his advice to frond again. "A weapon is more than a tool to inflict violence. it can also be used to defend one's self and those around them. if we are to combat the Sith, We must be able to protect ourselves so that we may protect the balance that they wish to destroy. So what say you Frond? care to go a few rounds with Crazy Kel?"

Kel saw that Frond's confusion had been cleared, and that the Neti was now getting into the spirit of things. Kel swung his blade horizontally, then vertically. the only weight he really felt was the hilt in his four fingered hand. he watched as his soon to be opponent centered himself and delivered a powerful strike through the air that nearly hit the ground. Then he pointed his sabre towards Kel. Kel was more or less used to the weight of the hilt by now, so the only thing left to test was how it performed. Kel grasped the hilt with both hands and swung his light sabre at Frond's own blade. as the two blades collided he felt that the blade had taken on mass when it came in contact with Frond's own blade. The sabres sparked upon contact and grew louder like feedback from a microphone. Kel broke off his surprise attack now that he had obtained a rudimentary grasp of how the blade worked.

"You forget your manners Frond. This is a sparring match. We bow to our opponents before we point our blades at each other. Like so." Kel then turned off his sabre and offered a small bow towards his statuesque partner. waiting for him to do the same.

After the customary bow, Kel ignited his light sabre again and stood at the ready. 'my opponent has a longer reach and a height advantage. He also possesses the ability to change shape. This is going to be tricky. Given his height and weight, he's likely stronger than me physically. I'll have to out maneuver Frond and use his strength against him.' Kel thought.

Frond made the first move by sweeping at Kel's legs before igniting his sabre and delivering a forward thrust. in order to avoid Frond's straight forward attack, Kel stepped backward to avoid the sweep followed by a side step in order to avoid the incoming thrust. Kel then seized the opening Frond had left and struck at his opponent's sword arm. "If you had activated your light sabre before sweeping my legs I might have fallen for that. the fact that you didn't activate it beforehand was a very obvious tell that you were up to something." Kel said.

Kel then pressed his assault on the old tree by zigzagging left and right hoping his movements would confuse his opponent. Kel then swung his Sabre at Frond's thigh hoping to limit his opponents movement.

Just as Kel's sabre was about to connect, Frond dropped himself like a fallen tree and twisted to avoid his blade entirely. And an instant later Frond had pushed himself back up like a blade of grass when the wind stopped blowing. Kel was surprised by frond's deceptively fast speed and limberness. Kel immediately swung around to attack frond again, but the neti had grabbed him by the shoulder and squeezed like a vice. Knowing that he was caught and that a strike from frond's sabre would be imminent, Kel deactivated his sabre and quickly tossed it to his other hand, activating it, and stabbing upward toward frond's shoulder the same moment that Frond's sabre had connected to his midsection. Though the burning sensation made him wince in pain he still pressed his counterattack. 'For someone who claims that he hasn't resorted to violence, He's doing surprisingly well.' Kel's own ego had lead to him underestimating Frond. and if his current tactic didn't pay off, then he was sure to pay the price.

As Kel's sabre connected with Frond's shoulder, he could still feel his foe's own blade raking itself across his gut. Despite the pain Kel's attack had caused, Frond's grip on his shoulder only tightened and he pulled at Kel as he fell backward. intending on bringing Kel down with him. As they grew closer and closer to the ground Kel's body cried out in agony as Frond worked his blade up Kel's torso. if the blade's path continued unhindered, it could potentially reach his mask. Knowing that he had to keep his breathing mask from being damaged at all costs, Kel deactivated his sabre, pointed the emitter horizontally towards Frond's sword hand, and reactivated it in a last ditch effort to change the blade's path and to disarm his opponent if he was lucky enough.

As Kel regained consciousness, he clutched at the wounds he had received on his midsection. the pain still radiating from his burning flesh made him wince. though the cool temperature of the water helped to alleviate the sensation somewhat. 'Yup. that's going to hurt in the morning.' Slowly, Kel tried to sit himself up and with his other hand rubbed the sore spot on his head where he had made contact with the lake bed. Before long Kel noticed that frond was looming over him. From the look on his face he appeared to be concerned. Kel's hunch was confirmed when the wooden giant asked if he was injured. To which kel replied; "It's alright Frond. I can survive this much. Although I question my chances when master Pulthar and Jalavi find out that I've not only ditched my first class, but also ruined my new robes. And on my first day no less."

He then grasped his knee cap with his of hand hand for support while trying to stand up. he then expanded his presence in the force in order to locate his sabre which had fallen in the water during the scuffle. once he was back on his feet, he reached out with his off hand, willing the sabre to return to his grasp. the hilt flew from it's place in the water and returned to Kel. "That was a good fight Frond. You defeated me. And for that you have my everlasting respect." Kel said.

Kel was pleased to hear that sarna had offered to take both he and Frond as her apprentices. "Thank you... Master Sarna." He watched as Sarna worked diligently to heal his burned flesh. He felt the force in Sarna drawing on her own life energy, manipulating the cells of his skin and muscle tissue in an effort to speed up his recovery. the process took roughly an hour and by the end of it, there wasn't even a scar left from their earlier bout. He twisted and stretched his body and felt that his body was in working order."I have a change of clothes in my room. they will suffice until my robes are replaced." Kel watched as his fellow apprentice attempted the same procedure on himself for his own injuries. But something went wrong. As Frond's injuries healed, a new injury had sprouted on Sarna's arm. Frond's idea of balance had caused him to use the force in a way that transferred his injury to another living thing. and that thing was their new master. Frond soon realized his mistake and stopped what he was doing immediately while tumbling into the grass. Kel believed that Frond hadn't purposefully meant to cause Sarna harm, but this incident would no doubt be a major blow to his confidence. Kel knelt down by his side and reached his hand out to touch Fronds injuries. "Relax Frond, just take a deep breath." And so Kel attempted to heal Frond's injuries himself. he followed Sarna's example and drew on his own energy to heal Frond. He urged Fronds plant like cells to mend their cell walls and to multiply in an effort to heal the singed bark on frond's arms. The process took roughly half an hour, but Kel believed that was due to Frond's injuries being less severe than his own. Frond's bark like skin had taken the brunt of Kel's assault. frond's injuries were likely only a flesh wound compared to his own. After Kel finished his work, he sat on the ground completely exhausted. "It's alright, to make mistakes Frond. What matters, is that you learn from them so that you don't make the same one again."

Kel beamed at his master's praise, though he was disheartened by Frond's dismissal of his attempted aid. in hindsight he probably shouldn't have said anything. Sarna basically said the same things he had, but she was much more eloquent in how she spoke. in Kel's mind this served to further demonstrate the vast gap in experience between someone like himself and someone like Sarna or his grandfather.if his grandfather were still of this world he would no doubt scold Kel for his lack of tact in that moment.

Sarna instructed Kel and Frond to meditate on today's experiences so that they could discuss their points of view. Believing that meditating would clear his mind of these stray thoughts, Kel crossed his legs in a sitting position and clasped his hands together. he took a deep breath through his mask and slowly exhaled. He pondered Frond's method of healing and how Sarna had reacted afterwards. Kel thought that frond had committed a malpractice, albeit unintentionally. But Sarna insisted that there was a balance in it. "Frond's method is certainly a gray area. There is just as much potential for bad as there is for good. such a power would have to be used carefully, as we have just observed." Kel said while gazing at the fresh wound on Sarna's arm. He then stood up and began the walk towards his quarters. the turbo lift brought him to the first floor and then he walked towards his designated room.

upon entering his room, his astromech R5-N7 beeped in greeting. "Hi to you too." Kel then removed his singed Jedi robes and began changing into the garb of his people's martial artists. A purple tunicthat went down to his kness and parted at his waist, a red sash tied around his waist, and a leather harness around his chest that was connected to a pauldron on his right shoulder. The droid beeped in booped as if to say 'you got into a fight didn't you?' "No, this was a sparring match. With light sabres. big difference." Kel responded. the droid beeped again. "Yeah well, I'd like to see you fight an 8 foot neti." Kel remarked. after he finished dressing himself, Kel sat back on his bed and examined the training sabre in his hands. it was a nice weapon, but a bit too simple for his tastes. perhaps when the time came to build his own sabre, he could build one to his liking. he then left his room and proceeded to the stairs and stepped down to the second floor. He went to the archives to study the components and mechanics of light sabres. from what he had been able to gather he surmised that the core design of light sabres were almost always the same, but with slight variations often made specifically for the user. with this new information, Kel began to picture how his light sabre would look and how it would function. He spent hours looking over various components in order to figure out what parts he would need for his sabre's design to work efficiently.

His stomach growled loudly as it demanded sustenance. Returning to the first floor Kel went towards the cantina and proceeded to eat until he had his fill.

seeing that Sarna had waved them over, Kel left his earlier spot in favor of sitting on the opposite side of the table she was sitting at. when Frond joined them, she joked and asked if we were ready to build our own light sabres and slay the sith. "I studied light sabre construction during my free time. I have an idea of how i want to build my light sabre. With the right components, I believe it could be very versatile." Kel said while clasping his fingers together. "What of you Frond? have you given any thought as to your own light sabre?" Kel asked.

Kel watched as Sarna pulled out a small black crystal from her satchel. the crystal had this strange, almost alluring quality to it. Kel could tell that this crystal was strong with the dark side of the force, perhaps even stronger than the Sith lord's weapons she had shown them before. Sarna had no doubt brought the crystal before them so that they could experience another vision of sorts. she placed the crystal on the table before them and proceeded to grasp each of our hands in her own and closed her eyes. she appeared to be very eager to show us what history the crystal held. Though Kel still trusted that she would not have showed them this if she didn't believe the two of them could handle it. So kel closed his eyes as well and grasped Frond's other hand in his own while Sarna did the rest.

When Kel opened his eyes he saw that he and his colleagues were standing in the white hallway of a republic cruiser. standing before them were three other Jedi that were kneeling in prayer. their master Haliin introduced herself and her fellow knights Firenz and Jen as Revanchists. Kel did not expect that Sarna's technique would actually allow them to travel through time and interact with spirits of the past. the spirits had offered to teach us in their final moments. the force and their dedication to it was truly awe inspiring to the young Doran. "it would be my pleasure to learn from you Master Haliin."

Kel watched as the three revanchists battled against the Mandolorians. despite the vast difference in numbers, the Jedi and their republic troops kept the invaders at bay for what felt like an eternity. The confined space of the hallway practically eliminated the Mandolorian's aerial advantage. The Jedi slew the invaders left and right while deflecting any laser fire that came their way. One of the jedi, Jen, used the force to grab the grenades of her fallen foes and lobbed them at the invaders. A clever tactic that Kel would be certain to make use of if the situation called for it. the Invader's armor proved to be very resilient even taking a few hits from the Jedi's light sabres. But even their armor could not stop the jedi when they drew deeply from the force to press their assault. by the end of the battle the Mandolorians were defeated and the Jedi fell lifelessly on the floor as the overexertion of their bodies and the force took its toll. their blood pooled from their bodies as the remaining troops went to collect their fallen comrades.

the battleground faded from Kel's vision and the cantina came back into view. The events of the past weighed heavily on Kel as he attempted to comprehend the battle... No, war, he had just witnessed. the revanchists gave their lives to ensure victory against an army of warmongers. If the spirits of the revanchists could be trusted, then the Jedi had allowed the mandolorians to ravage planet after planet. The jedi were peace keepers were they not? why had they not stepped in sooner? much of the past was a mystery to Kel, perhaps the darkside had clouded their vision and they couldn't grasp the bigger picture? Was this why the galaxy remained plagued by wars to this day? The sith cause imbalance by their mere existence. The revanchists sought to light that darkness by fighting in its depths. Wars will continue to cause strife through out the galaxy. The Sith limit our ability to prevent such wars from happening. "I believe the time has come for a new kind of Jedi. a group that possesses an active role in the galaxy's current state of affairs." Kel gazed at the dark crystal on the table "One that can prevent such tragedies from happening again." Kel said.
