Dizzy had thought about Deborma as well, though hadn't mentioned him. Someone had to know something though... they did need some kind of an answer.

She finished off her meal, looking over the cleaned plates. She had enjoyed each and every morsel of it.

"I'm ready to train... only I think I should put something else on instead of my skirt... "

Kyle laughed.

"Of course. Let's get you into something more suitable for the situation."

Leading Dizzy out of the messhall, the two soon reached the training room lobby.

"Through those doors in front of us is the training room. Guys locker is one the left, Girls on the right."

Kyle glanced down at Dizzy as he looked into her eyes, "I know what you're probably thinking... and yes... this is like the one in the plex. Military grade with some differences, but essentially all the same technology. I know you probably never wanted to go in one of those again. But hear me out. It's really the only way to provide the wide range of training options needed in a limited area such as a spaceship. Plus, there is no way the pirates or anyone else is going to invade our session. I'll post a squad of men outside the door if you like. I promise everything will be alright, k? You got to trust me on this."

Kyle paused for a second, staring gently into Disra's eyes, "So we suit up? Ok?"

Dizzy laughed and followed Kyle to the training room, stopping short when he mentioned the change rooms and how it was like the plex. Fear appeared in her eyes, her thoughts going back to what had happened the first time. Even with his assurances she still couldn't help but fear what would happen.

"But... what if there's a plant? Several plants? Kyle... I... "

She looked down at the floor, trying to control her fears. They were on a military vessel... he had guards... it couldn't happen again... could it?

"I... trust you Kyle... I just don't want it to happen again. I know I need to learn how to fight but what if they've put some sort of virus in the simulator thingy? What if something goes wrong?"

Her ignorance showed through again and she could have kicked herself for it. Who was she kidding? The only way she was going to learn how to defend herself it seemed, was against enemies that continued to spring up no matter what they did or where they went.

When she looked up at Kyle again she swallowed some of her fears.

"Ok... I'll... I'll do it."

With a relieved smile, Kyle took Dizzy's hands.

"You know, a wise man once told me something that has stuck with me for a long time. 'Fear is a natural part of life. Healthy fear is even good. But the second we lose control of our fears and let fear control us is the second we lose focus on what life is really about. Sometimes you have to take chances to reap the rewards."

"Heh..." Kyle thought back reminiscently regarding that moment in his life. "And boy was he right..."

Losing himself in thought for a moment before he even realized it, Kyle quickly returned his focus to the matter at hand, "The point is, who knows. Something could go wrong. But just please bear with me and control your fears as much as possible. We need to get you fighting worthy and the only way we are going to do that is inside there."

Kyle grinned, "We gotta take a chance to get that reward. I love you."

Leaning in Kyle kissed Dizzy on the lips before leaving her to walk over to one of the guards monitoring the training room.

"I would like a detail of ten men watching this room while we are inside at all times. No one is allowed in or out except Dizzy and I. Understood?"

"Yes, sir. Right away, sir!"

"Good..."

With that, Kyle quickly enter the dressing room and put on the gear. With a few minutes, Kyle was ready to go as he stood waiting for Dizzy in front of the large, metal double doors.

Dizzy looked back into Kyle's eyes, focusing on every word he spoke as if to gain strength from them. She swallowed, breaking contact only for a moment before looking back at him.

"I love you too Kyle."

The kiss was sweet to her, a soft smile appearing on her face as she watched him walking over to the guards. She breathed out as he ordered the extra men on guard while they were in the room. Mustering as much courage as she could, Dizzy walked over to the change room, entering hers as Kyle entered his.

She took a while to look at herself in the mirror, tying her hair back as she mentally psyched herself up. Taking another deep breath she left the room to stand beside Kyle, reaching out to take hold of his hand.

"Ok... lets do this"

Walking inside, the room was rather plain with a steady dark gray color filling the whole room. Size-wise, the building was massively large with a ceiling rising a good story or two above ground level. Leading Dizzy inside, Kyle moved to a console and hit a few buttons. Suddenly, a weapon materialized in his hands.

"Remember this? The E-11 blaster I told you about when we first met?"

Handing it to her, Kyle continued, "Tell me a little about it..."

Dizzy followed him into the room, shuddering as the weapon materialized into his hands. She caught it automatically, turning it over to the right grasp as she looked it over. She cast her mind back to when they'd been at Thorpe's. He'd told her about it then... telling her to 'take notes'. Closing her eyes for a moment, she spoke.

"Standard sidearm used by stormtroopers. Variations still used by armies now. Good range, lots of damage and... relatively easy to use."

She opened her eyes up and looked at Kyle.

"All things considered, not bad. However, you missed all the important details. But don't get me wrong. It's not your fault. You haven't been trained to think in the mind set I'm about to teach you."

Materializing another E-11 blaster, Kyle continued, pointing to the various parts as he went along, "As you know, this is a Blastech E-11 blaster that has good range and damage, ect. ect. However, while that is good to know, this is what you need to know about this weapon. It can be used one-handed in close quarters like a pistol for one. A definite advantage. However, even more special, the extendable sighting stock, the barrel's advanced galven circuitry, and the computer-enhanced scope which filters out smoke, haze, and enhances vision in low light conditions. In otherwords, if you find yourself in such a position this should probably be your weapon of choice. That and don't hesitate to use the sighting stock.

Messing with the weapon, Kyle commanded, "Computer. Trandosian. 90 meters."

As a still figure of a trandosian suddenly appeared in the distance, Kyle continued, "Even if you forget all that, don't forget these two things about the blaster: the weapon has an optimum and maximum range of one hundred meters and the power pack on the side of the E-11 powers enough energy for one hundred shots."

Pausing to let it sink in for a second, Kyle repeated himself, "The blaster has an optimum and maximum range of one hundred meters and the power pack on the side of the E-11 powers enough energy for one hundred shots. Sure, the weapon has various settings and levels and buttons and gadgets. Those really don't matter. What matters is your range and shot count... that and counting your shots."

Finished lecturing, Kyle quickly raised his arm and fired three rapid shots, sending the holographically generated trandosian to the ground.

"Computer. One human. 50 meters."

Kyle turned to Dizzy, "Let's see what you got. Now you try."

Dizzy listened to him, watching Kyle intently as he explained about the weapon. As he mentioned each part of it, she turned the weapon over in her hands, examining each section. She put it to memory, repeating it quietly within her mind.

She then watched as he had the computer simulate a Trandosian at 90 meters. He dropped the hologram in three shots. When the human figure materialised at 50 meters, Dizzy glanced at Kyle before back at the figure.

"Okay..."

She raised the weapon, testing it's weight and brought it up so that she could take aim through the site. Holding it there, she looked through at the figure, squeezing the trigger...

((lol! Hehehe... the idea of this test is for you to give me an idea of where Dizzy's weapon skills are currently at so I can progress accordingly... ))

Satisfied that Dizzy had paid attention to his lecture, Kyle stepped back. Watching carefully, Kyle noted how Dizzy held the blaster, the way she took aim, and how much overall confidence she displayed in her ability to take out her assigned target. He quickly glanced at the hologram and then back at the E-11.

"Pheezz!"

(( Ok))

She squeezed the trigger three times, following Kyle's example... the first shot went wide, Dizzy taking the time to re sight it before firing again, this time striking the target's arm... the last shot just again wide. Lowering the weapon she sighed. The only other time she had fired a weapon had been at point blank range against the pirate.

"I guess I need to work on it... it looks easier than it is..."

  • 1 year later...

The Link freighter emerged from hyperspace coming into the system and heading towards Yehveshi Minor. The twins handled all the communications with the planet, receiving the landing co-ordinates for the resort.

Zara watched her eldest children from her seat, proud at their accomplishments and how they were handling it. She looked across to Brina and Mellanie winking at the latter to get a smile from her youngest daughter. The twins brought the ship through the atmosphere, a bit shaky though they soon had it under control. This was another test Zara had wanted to check them with as they'd only been in the simulators and in space not planetary atmosphere before. They handled it well, Zara grinning over at Brina.

Once they set down, a little rougher than the twins would have liked, Zara let them go through all the post flight checks themselves also. Making sure they knew how to do everything. She nodded her head, smiling at them as they went through all the procedures. Zara hugged both the twins then took Mellanie's hand and led the way out of the ship, the twins 'escorting' Brina.

On the landing pad was a young woman with dark brown hair and eyes along with a younger girl around Mellanie's age. Zara smiled at them as she stepped forward with Mellanie,

"Welcome to Yehveshi Minor. I'm Rose Disra Qwinn and this is my younger sister Daizy." Dizzy welcomed the family from the Link Organisation. "You may call me Disra." She had long since been taught and had taken up her duties as Heiress to the Qwinn house, her next sister Jewel still put out by her being there but they were on better terms than they had been for years though Jewel was away currently. Dizzy led the family into the resort, telling the staff that anything they needed was to be provided. "If you will excuse me, I will let you settle into your rooms. There will be a luncheon at 12 noon in the dining room." Excusing herself, she and Daizy turned to leave, the latter waving shyly at Mellanie who in turn waved back with a shy smile of her own.

RDQ.jpg

Zara, Brina, the tutor and the children were led to their suite - several rooms contained in a wing within the resort. It opened out onto a balcony overlooking a swimming pool with a mountain range in the back ground. Ponies and horses could be seen grazing in a paddock off to the right. A booklet with a list of the resorts activities and map of the surroundings was placed upon the desk in the main living area of the suite for them to peruse at their leisure.

"This looks nice. Breathe that fresh air." Zara murmured, taking in a deep breath. It was good to breath fresh air instead of recycled even though they had the best equipment in the galaxy when it came to air filtration.

The planet was surprisingly beautiful. Brina had never spent much time near mountains, and they really were breathtaking. She took a few minutes to settle into her room and look around. It was well-equipped with near state-of-the-art technology, comfortable, but a little lush for Brina's tastes. However, as these were the finest rooms the resort had to offer, she wasn't surprised by the luxury.

It would be a nice change. Her rooms aboard the Casino were by her choice a little more Spartan. Sometimes it was nice to relax in a bit of luxury every now and then. The landscape and elegance of the rooms made her feel out-of-place in her simple jumpsuit. She changed into a plain, long dress and sandals before heading over to the Nargal family's rooms.

Mellanie ran around from room to room, sounds of 'Oh wow! Look at this!' coming from each room. The twins were more circumspect but they still went from room to room to see what their sister was talking about. While the children were exploring, Zara went to get changed out of her shipsuit into a set of bathers and a blue sun dress, and slipped on a pair of sandals. She went back into the living room, smiling fondly at her children as she reclined on one of the comfortable chairs.

She grinned over at Brina who had just re-entered the rooms. "This will be a pleasure... no masses of paperwork for a whole week." Their Dathomiri tutor followed Mellanie into another room, the twins following soon after, calling out for 'Mum! Aunt Brina! You've gotta see this!"

Looking over at Brina, Zara shook her head, laughing as she got up, "No rest for the weary". She waited for Brina to reach her and wandered in to where the children were. They each had a device on their heads and were looking at a screen. When they realised that the two women had entered they practically pushed a head piece into each of their hands, urging them to 'Try this! It's amazing!'

Putting the head piece on Zara sat in the very long lounge chair in front of the screen next to her son. What she saw simply amazed her as she looked through at the screen. It wasn't blank anymore, it was filled with all kinds of images. She could hear the children talking about what they could see, how they even felt they were climbing a mountain or swimming in a large pool of water beneath a waterfall. Looking back at the image she found herself looking out into a blanket of stars. The image it had chosen to show her was one from her memories, when Ronin had taken her up in the GraveBreaker and they had floated among the stars in zero gravity. His ship had given the illusion of them being out among the stars themselves, almost dancing among them. She lost herself in that image and sensation for a long moment...

Each person had a different experience to everyone else...

When Brina put the headpeice on her head, she turned to the screen, vaguely amused at the children's reaction, not knowing what to expect to see.

As she looked at the screen, it seemed to expand in her view until it took up most of her vision. It showed her in an open-sided passenger ship flying through a pleasantly warm atmosphere high over a planet surface. Knowing what to do, after a moment she jumped over the side of the ship. She could feel the wind rushing and the air currents pushing her to and fro. She could feel the exhilaration of the virtual dive coursing through her veins. She was falling for several minutes when a gentle grip caught and slowed her. She flipped herself upright and rode the modified tractor beam all the way down to the surface, over mountains, valleys, streams and fields. She landed gently on a safety pad.

Sitting back, Brina took the device off her head. "That was certainly something! Atmosphere diving. I'm not sure it's quite as good as the real thing, but it's an excellent entertainment option. Personally, I'd rather really be there."

She smiled and noticed Zara's rapturous expression. "What do you see, Zar?"

Zara took off her head piece, a gentle reminiscent smile on her face. "Have you ever been dancing with the stars?" At Brina's puzzled look she added, "I saw a scene from my memory. When Ronin and I were first seeing each other he took me up above Coruscant in the GraveBreaker. His cockpit is in the centre of his ship and he uses a multitude of holo screens. He cut the gravity so we were floating, dimmed the lights and used the screens to project what was outside the ship - we were literally floating up there with the stars surrounding us. It was so romantic..." Zara sighed, also aware that her children were listening.

"So you were atmosphere diving? I've never tried it. I might have to sometime. So... what do we all want to do next?"

Brina gave her friend a smile. She knew how much Zara missed Ronin at times, and Sabian too. It was so cruel that she had been seperated from them, not getting the chance to live out her life with them by her side. Although, she reflected, she doubted Ronin would have stayed much longer than he did anyway. Pirates were not known to stay in one place very long.

At Zara's question, she shrugged. "I don't know. Why don't we let Kane pick something? We can all take turns choosing activites. There are certainly plenty of things to enjoy here."

Kane sat up straighter, a grin on his face as he heard that he could pick what they did next. "How about... we go to the Plex. Says here you can do just about everything there. The VR sounds so cool. Can we do that?" His excitement was evident as he explained what it was from the brochure.

Zara grinned at her son, "Sounds good to me. Girls?" She looked at both her daughters, seeing that they were just as enthusiastic as their brother. She turned her head to Brina to see what she thought.

FYI:: There's a few posts at the beginning of this thread that show what the 'Plex' is like. Here's one of the posts that explains it.

Kail grinned, "Well, it's hard to exactly explain unless you see it. You see, before the last Valtros passed on his power to my father he wanted to leave a something for the people, a gift. So he set to funding the plex. Taking an area of pretty uninhabitable land that was useless for anything worthwhile farming, mining, or otherwise, he commission the building of the plex. It's wow! The thing spans a distance of 50 square miles! you have definitely never seen anything like it. There are almost a never ending supply of things to do there. Plus, it's open to the public so for a reasonable fee anybody can enjoy the amusements there. Knowing my brother, though, he probably reserved it especially for our group."

Trying to hype it up for Dizzy and getting excited about it himself in the process, Kyle added, "Best of all, five square miles is dedicated solely to VR. And they change it every month. What you do is put in special contacts and a poly-synthetic headband. Don't worry, both of made for utmost comfort. The contact control what you see. Basically, objects, buildings, and the like are arranged specifically for that months VR. The contacts then are programmed to translate them as things. For example, a plastic tree might look like a real one or a stick might translate as a sword. Or, if you 'cut' yourself you would see yourself bleed. But how it really works is in conjunction with the headband. It seamlessly 'taps' your brain to manipulate your sense of touch and smell and feeling. It sends brain signals so that you brain registers them as different things. For instance, I might react out to touch a sticker bush. In actuality, it doesn't even exist. However, with the contacts it looks like it does. The beauty is that the headband finishes the illusion. If I touch the bush I will 'feel' the poke, and the contacts will intuatively associate blood with the injury as needed."

The whole thing, Kyle grinned to himself, "All the Debormas are pure genius. The whole idea of brainwave manipulation and synthetic optical illusions were invented by one of the past Deborma house heads. They are required to have indepth medical and scientific knowledge before taking their place and head of the family. Finally, one of them had a stroke of genius and thought, 'why not create the ultimate simulator.' It was a huge undertaking, though. It took him well over 200 years of research and study to develop and perfect. He finally did it, though, and while it was originally intended for military and medical training purposes, my grandfather decided that it should be used for our entertainment as well."

At the girl's enthusiastic response, Brina traded grins with Zara. "Let me get changed into something more fitting, then," she said, glancing down at her dress. It would not be good for walking around a park and doing whatever this new technology involved.

She went back next door to her room and changed into a stylish blue and white jumpsuit. She accessorized it with a pair of walking sandals and a small blue bag with a long strap. Grabbing the few things she thought she needed--like her sunglasses--she headed back over to the Nargal's rooms. "Ready to go?"

Zara grinned at her children's excitement, Mellanie racing over to Brina as she re-entered their room, grabbing hold of her hand and dancing around her. The group went to the waiting shuttle which took them to the Plex. Once in there the children raced towards the VR section, Zara and Brina following behind them. "Should we join them or do something else while we wait for them?"

It seemed like their holiday was just racing by...

Brina grinned. "I say let's join them. I'm just as interested to see this new technology as they are, although most likely for different reasons."

The group headed off, and over the course of the afternoon enjoyed all of the main attractions. The place was busy, but not overcrowded, and the day not too hot. In all, it was the perfect day to be outside and enjoying the entertainment the resort had to offer. Brina's favorite VR attraction had been when they swam with the waterfalls on Naboo. Either that, she thought as they walked back to their rooms, or the roller coasters.

The kids were exhausted after the long day, so they ordered a small dinner in their rooms. The kids settled down to a holofilm, and Brina approached Zara. "What do you say we check out some of the late-night entertainment?" she asked quietly, smiling at her friend. "I don't think we've had a girls' night out together in a long time. The tutor can watch the kids the rest of the evening until they go to bed."

Taking her friend's smile as a yes, Brina slipped over to her own room to change into something more appropriate for a night on the town while Zara took care of any family details she might have to do.

Fifteen minutes later, she was waiting outside for Zara.

The VR had been so entertaining that Zara promised herself she'd speak with Miss Qwinn regarding purchasing a unit for the Casino. Imagine all the fun the patrons could have with it. Each theme they had entered had been amazing and all they'd had to do was place on a special suit, contact lenses and head piece. They had really been different people, each taking on a character in a role. They'd had a list of characters to pick from though hadn't found out what their character was until they'd gone into the room that led into the VR.

Seeing that the children were settled with their tutor watching a holofilm, Zara headed into her room to get changed herself. She put on a black cocktail dress and strappy shoes, topping it with a small black evening bag on a shoulder strap. She brushed her long blonde hair out, leaving it loose, applying a touch of make-up and she was right to go. "Be good kids!" Zara called as she headed out to meet with Brina. It had been so long since they'd had a decent night out without responsibilities or being called for some 'emergency' or another.

"Ready?" Zara grinned at her friend, linking her arm through Brina's. They wandered through to the nightclub within the resort. As a waiter approached the two women, Zara looked to Brina, "Should be be adventurous and go for one of their cocktails?"

Brina grinned. "Definately." She ordered one for herself, trying to pick something that wouldn't be too fruity.

While they waited for their drinks, Brina observed the club and its clientele. It was definately a nightclub versus a bar, as there were games and gambling readily available, several Twi'lek and human dancers on the stage, and a milling crowd dressed in their exotic finest.

She sipped her drink. A little too fruity. She'd have to stick with something more straight next round. "So Zara, I haven't gotten to ask you since I've been healthy...have you heard anything from Ronin or Sabian?"

Taking a sip of her cocktail, Zara winced slightly though still drank it. Too bitter. At Brina's question she sighed, "No, I haven't heard from either of them. Not once have they asked about the kids."

She looked around the nightclub, the music such that she felt like letting loose for a while and get on the dance floor like some of the other patrons. "Wanna hit the floor?"

Brina sighed. "Part of me is unsurprised at their actions...or rather, lack of actions. But it is really asking too much that they at least come back and see the kids? Even if they are avoiding you for some reason...Well, perhaps our paths will cross again sometime. Maybe Ronin will decide he needs a change of scenery and will come to the Casino."

She took a sip of her drink, then put it down. It was practically straight juice. She pushed it away. "Too sweet," she replied to Zara's look. "I won't get that again."

At the other woman's suggestion, Brina glanced up. There were several other patrons out on the dance floor, and it looked like they were enjoying themselves. The music was snazzy and upbeat. Brina shrugged. "Why not? But I warn you, I'm a horrible dancer."

As they began to whirl across the floor, Brina told Zara the story of how she had once tried to get a job as a nightclub dancer. "So then I tripped and fell right into Mr. Rith'ga's lap. Spilled his drink all over him and his datapad." She laughed. "I tried to act like it was all part of the routine, but they didn't buy it. Mr. Rith'ga was furious. I saw what he wrote on my application--'Has all the rhythm of a Gamorrean, despite natural looks.' I never auditioned again, and got a job as a waitress instead."

Zara sighed, shaking her head, "I wish they would at least come and see the kids. It's not fair on them... growing up without their respective father's." She knew that she'd never have her own personal dream though she wished her children could at least get to know their fathers.

On the dance floor Zara shrugged off her sorrow, shaking her head, "I'm not that great at it either ... it's just for fun, who cares what we look like..." she winked at her friend.

At Brina's story Zara laughed at the right places. "If things had gone haywire with that job Kat and I did with the Hutt's, I was worried they'd try to 'own' us... luck was with us there."

After about fifteen minutes, Brina needed a break. She was panting slightly as she sat back down at their table. I keep forgetting I'm not back in shape yet...I can't push myself too hard. She ordered another drink, this time forgoing any attempts to branch out and ordering a straight Hoth vodka.

When it arrived, she took a drink and relished the burning in her throat. "Ahh, now that's good stuff."

She glanced across the table at Zara. "Kat always used to keep a couple of bottles of this stuff in his quarters. Remember when I threw out all of his alcohol?" She chuckled. "He was pretty mad, but he forgave me pretty quickly."

Zara immediately felt remorseful as Brina went for the chair at their table, "Oh I am sorry Brina. I forgot for a moment that you're not back to 100%..."

She ordered a Corellian brandy this time instead of another cocktail, enjoying the smooth taste of it's flavour. Zara laughed and nodded her head at Brina's mention of Kat. "Yes, he always did, regardless of how many times I'd sneak in and remove his stash... *laugh* He always had more..." She rested her hand upon Brina's, "I miss him too. I do wish he'd come back from whichever rock he's crawled under..."

She knew it was hard for Brina, her brother having run out on them too. "We don't seem to have much luck with men do we?" It was more a statement than a question.

Alerted to an incoming message, Zara drew out her portable commlink rather than using her internal chip. She sat at the table so that Brina could see the message also.

”œZara Nargal Co-owner of the Link Organization. It seems you have lied to me. If this is a misunderstanding Contacting me with in the next Seventy-two Coursantti hours over the matter. I would hate to cease all contact with your”¦particular organization and begin an event of unpleasantness.”

Brina nodded her agreement with Zara's statement about men, then turned her attention to the comm that she displayed.

A frown crossed her face. Some mysterious man sending a very deliberately vague message across the Holonet? If that wasn't a trick, she was a Hutt. She was about to speak up, but Zara was already on the move. From the rushed words of her friend, she took it that Zara knew who the speaker in the message was. She frowned again. How had she known? His face was hidden and the voice recognition detection scrambled. Maybe it was a Force thing.

Along the very quick ride back to their rooms, she could tell that Zara was extremely agitated. She tried to get a few words in edgewise, but Zara was on alert, and kept talking about the heist and Black Sun. Her own mind was busy, thinking. This seemed rather straightforward to her at first glance; your standard 'lure the victim into walking right into your arms' trick. At the same time, depending on who this man was, it was quite possible he did have the means to cut serious financial support from the Link.

For the first time, Brina was glad she had been sick. It had given her a chance to get much more familiar with the Link's financial records. She hurredly packed her things, changing first into a no-nonsense black jumpsuit. Belting on her holster, she also slid her recently-purchased boot knife and sleeve blaster into their spots. She wasn't going to take any chances--the Link's management had been through their share of sticky situations already.

Reuniting with Zara and the kids, they all headed together to the ship. Brina told the kids to get strapped in, refusing--although not unkindly-- Kane's request to help pilot the ship, and headed up to the cockpit.

A few minutes later, the ship had recieved all the clearance codes and disappeared into hyperspace.

Kail watched from a distance as the visitor's vessel took flight and departed. Off-world travelers weren't a common site these days and he was unsure whether they were a welcome one, either. But they seemed to be rather harmless, after all.

Several thoughts filled Kyle's head as he watched the ship disappear beyond the horizon. But now was not the time. Kail slowly lifted the hood of his cloak over his head and disappeared into the shadows once more.
